1 . If you watch the sky for about an hour after the sun goes down, you may see some “moving star”. But they are not really stars. They are man-made satellites. And the biggest of all is the International Space Station (ISS). From May to July is the best season to watch the ISS flying over the earth. And people can see it with their eyes during the time. The scientists want to live on the ISS. They think that the best way to learn more about space is to live there.

When the space station is finished, it will be like a city in space. People will stay and study there with many of the things they have at home. Labs, living rooms and power stations are being built. The ISS is the most expensive program. Billions of dollars are spent on it every year.

Scientists thinks that the ISS will be crucial for future space exploration. “The ISS will be more useful some day. The ISS will help us understand the human body better, explore space and study the earth. It can help us make life on the earth better,” said Kathryn Clark, an ISS scientist.

Sixteen countries are part of the space program: the US, Russia, Canada, Japan, Brazil, and 11 European countries. China has helped with some of the experiments. In 2003, China sent some rice up to the ISS to find out what space would do to it.

3 . The 2022 Winter Olympics were held successfully. Athletes (运动员) across the world came to Beijing and Zhangjiakou. Winter sports need to be in cold places. So, is it possible to hold the Winter Olympics on other planets?

Lots of scientists believe there’s life on other planets. Because of this, they keep doing research     1     the universe. They have sent astronauts to the moon. And they have     2     the answer. There’s no life on the moon. Not long ago they     3     spaceships to Mars. There, they didn’t find life. And they found the environment of Mars was     4     from that of the earth. Then they knew it was     5     for people to live on Mars.

    6     they haven’t received a message from other planets, they believe their idea is right. Recently they have discovered a planet. It’s     7     Proxima Centauri (比邻星). It’s very     8     to our earth. It is just over four light years away. Proxima Centauri is     9     than the earth. And there’s water on this planet. That     10     mean that life is possible there. Now scientists are studying this planet. Soon they will tell people the answer.

5 . How many things can you see in the night sky? A lot! _______ a clear evening you might see the Moon and some planets. And _______ sparkling stars _______, too.

You can see even _______ with a telescope. You might see stars where you only saw dark space before. You might see that many stars look larger than others. You might see that some stars _______ look white _______ really red or blue.

But scientists believe there are some things in the sky that we _______. We can’t see them with the biggest telescope in the world, even when it is the clearest night of the year. On Sept. 2nd, 2021, China’s Fengyun-3E satellite took its first photo of the sun.     2     The pictures taken are very clear. The satellite was sent into space on July 5th. And by the end of 2021, China released an album of photos taken by the satellite.

One of the satellite’s sides faces the sun all the time.     3     Why is watching the sun so important?

Clear pictures of the sun can help scientists study it more deeply. For example, scientists can better study solar storms. These may affect the weather on Earth.     4     An astronaut would be in great danger if he or she was on the moon during the storm.     5    

9 . In many science fiction (科幻) movies, men travel to faraway stars and even fight with aliens. But are there real aliens in the universe (宇宙)? The answer of some scientists is yes. So they have been searching for aliens in outer space for many years. They hope io find life signs of aliens.

Some scientists are used to using radio telescopes (望远镜) to search for aliens in space. In order to find aliens, they have worked hard for over half a century, but so far they have found nothing. Then some scientists guessed aliens might not want to connect us, but aliens could answer our messages. So some scientists sent radio signals into the universe. They hope one day they would be picked up by alien technology. These scientists want to prove (证明) that we are not alone in the universe.

But what should we do if the “alien phone” rings one day? Should we answer it? Stephen Hawking, the famous physicist, thought it could be dangerous to connect aliens. He said that the main purpose of aliens’ visiting to our solar system could be searching for our resources (资源). But other scientists think we have no need to worry. David Morrison. a NASA scientist, said, “If an alien radio signal reaches the earth from a planet thousands of light-years away, then they almost surely have solved all the problems we still have including the short of resources. Maybe they are much smarter than us, but why don’t they hurt us? I think we can try to connect them.”

Are we alone in space? Is the Earth the only planet that has life?     1     Now we may get one step closer to the answers.

On Feb. 22nd, NASA said they found seven Earth-like planets.     2     The planets go around a dwarf star（矮星）called Trappist-1. It is much smaller and cooler than our sun. They are about 39 light-years（光年）from the Earth.     3     But scientists say it’s a little close.

    4     If you lived on one of them, you could possibly see the clouds around the next planet. More importantly, three of the planets are at the perfect distance（距离）from the Sun.     5     If there is liquid water（液态水）, there could be life.

For scientists, the finding is not an end. Next, they will try to find out if the planets have atmospheres（大气层）.
