Andria, a north London secondary school teacher, said she wanted to bring about a classroom revolution (变革). “We are going to make a change,” she said. “I’ve started a project to improve the teaching of the arts in our schools.”
The project results from the difficulties many schools have in getting artists of any sort—whether an up-and-coming local musician or a major movie star—into schools to work with and inspire children.
Andria has worked on the project at Alperton Community School, her place of work for the past twelve years. “I’ve seen those magic moments when children are talking to someone they are inspired by their eyes are shining and their faces light up,” she said. “We need artists more than ever in our schools.”
Artist Michael said: “Andria’s brilliant project to bring artists from all fields into direct contact with children is particularly welcome at a time when the arts are being downgraded (低估) in schools.” “It was a mistake to see the arts as unnecessary,” he added.
Historian Sir Simon is also a supporter of the project. He said that arts education in schools was not just an add-on. “It is absolutely necessary. The future depends on creativity and creativity depends on the young.”

7 . There’s nothing better than a walk in the countryside for lifting our spirits. Connecting with nature can help our mental health. For many people, it feels great to take a walk through a forest, but as we admire the trees around us, it’s worth knowing these trees are doing more than just being nice things to look at.
We have already noticed that trees play an important role in taking care of our world—they produce oxygen and clean the air we breathe by taking in about a quarter of all human-caused carbon dioxide emissions(二氧化碳排放).
But there’s more to these trees than we might think. Researchers have discovered that they are actually very smart.
It’s thought that trees use a fungal network(真菌网络)to talk and share resources right under our feet. Under the ground are tree roots, bacteria(细菌)and super fine threads of fungi(菌丝). And research has shown that they are all mixed together. They can help each other by sharing “food”, and they can even tell them some coming dangers. Scientists say it’s like the trees are talking to one another.
Ecologist(生态学家)Suzanne Simard has called this network the Wood Wide Web. She discovered that parent trees use this network to help their children. She also found that trees are smart enough to change their behaviour to live in a changing environment.
So it seems trees really are the stars of our natural world, and with around three trillion of them on our planet, it’s time to show them some respect if we want them to grow better.

8 . In 1987, a small company named Huawei was started in Shenzhen. After more than 30 years of development, the company has now beaten Apple and become the world’s second-largest maker of smartphones behind Korea’s Samsung. It has also become the world’s largest supplier (供应商)of 5G.
But recently, Huawei faced some difficulties. The U.S. government ordered a ban (禁令) on its sales in America. American officials said Huawei gave information that it collected to the Chinese government. At the same time, the U. S. government planned to stop selling parts and services to Huawei, which was believed that Huawei’s business would be hurt.
“We have never received such a request(要求)from the Chinese government and we have never tried to get into other systems to collect information.” Ren Zhengfei, Huawei’s founder and president said. “This ban from the U.S. would have little effect (影响)on our company. Huawei has enough ability to deal with the problems.” Ren added.
In an interview several years ago, Ren Zhengfei said, “I started Huawei with only £4,000 at the beginning, but now it has become a $100 billion company. The experience was not as romantic(浪漫的)as you imagine.”
Facing the ban of the U.S., Huawei is growing. Huawei’s smartphone sales around the world rose 50 percent compared to a year earlier in the first three months of 2019. At the same time, sales from both Samsung and Apple fell. So far, Huawei has grown into the world’s largest telecommunications equipment (电信设备)supplier, selling in 170 countries! It may beat Samsung as the largest smartphone maker in the near future.

10 . Unfortunately, most schools are closed due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic. You all must be missing the learning environment of your school and the playful laughter of your classmates. Today let’s learn about the history of schools.
Schools are great places to learn new things, educate yourself and make lots of new friends. The school system is not new but has existed for thousands of years in ancient Rome, India and China. In fact, the concept(概念) of education dates back to the very first humans who ever live on Earth. Cave men and women saw the need to pass their skills, knowledge and values to the next generation to help them survive. But as time passed, a higher-level society formed. Humans understood that a large group of children would be better educated if a small group of wise adults taught them about various subjects. Based on this, the early concept of the school system took birth.
The early schools were more focused on developing fighting skills and passing religious(宗教的) beliefs rather than teaching modern subjects we learn today. In the mid-17th century, with the rise of the age of Enlightenment(启蒙运动), people started to realize the importance of exploration through reading, writing and mathematics. In 1642, Massachusetts became the first colony(殖民地) to require basic education and set up various schools for kids in that area. But the modern school system usually went to an American named Horace Mann who was the secretary of education in Massachusetts in 1837. After he visited Croatia and saw its education, he put forward his idea for the educational system of professional teachers who could teach students and organize basic lessons and was followed by other states in America quickly. For this reason, Mann is often called “The Father of the Common School Movement” .
And by 1918, every state had required students to complete primary schools and the system kept improving throughout the 20th century. It leads to the high-leveled system we enjoy today.
