3 . Different countries have different ideas about how to be polite. In Britain, table manners are important. But how do you show good table manners in Britain? Here is some advice.

How to sit. You should sit up straight in your chair. When you eat, don’t pick up the bowl or bring it to you. This is called very bad manners.

Noises at the table. It isn’t a good idea to make a noise at the table.

Using your fingers. Usually we don’t pick food up with our fingers when we are eating main dishes, but there are some foods that we can eat with our fingers. They are pizza, sandwiches, chips (or fries) and fruit.

Your mouth. It is not polite to talk with your mouth full of food. Please remember not to make a noise.

How much to eat. It is polite to eat all the food that you have been offered, so a clear plate (盘子) is a good plate. It shows that you enjoy the food. If you can’t finish everything and you have to leave a little, that’s okay. You could say, “That is very nice. Thank you.”

7 . October is a special (特殊的) month for us. We have some fun things in our school this month.

8 . Free time is a good chance for teenagers to have fun. What about free time with parents around? Some teenagers want free play time without their parents’ supervision (监管) while parents and experts may think differently.

Lin Tao, a middle school student, thinks teenagers should be free to play. “Last time I played with my parents around. I was nervous and just couldn’t enjoy myself,” Lin says. “And my friend Chen Xiaoxin has similar experiences. Once, he went out to play with his classmates. Everyone felt uncomfortable under his mother’s supervision.”

Wang Min, a mother of a 14-year-old boy, thinks playtime needs supervision. She explains, “People usually say I like to control my kid, but that’s not true. I am just worried that he will get into trouble. Some guys may have a bad influence on him and some games may mislead (误导) him. He might even get indulged in the games and can’t get back to real life.”

Mr Ma, a doctor of social studies, says it’s understandable for teenagers to wish for freedom. Free play helps them to be independent. Parents can give them more space. They don’t have to supervise them all the time. However, teenagers should find out the exact details (细节) about the activities before playtime. Then they can communicate with their parents and decide together whether they can go out to play alone.

9 . One of the things to be learnt in a foreign language is guessing what kind of thing to come when listening to someone talking. People do this all the time in their own language, so it is necessary to do this in a foreign language, too. Here are some examples:

(1) “What’s the matter?” “I went to a party last night, so I…”

(2) “I feel so tired these days.” “I think you’d better…”

(3) “Of course, she never stops talking. She is one of the most…”

You can see from the above three examples that the context (上下文) helps a lot in understanding what is being talked about. So “guessing” is very important in understanding English, especially spoken English.

10 . Did you use to be weak and unhealthy? If so, what did you do to make yourself healthy again? Could you please give me some advice?

Jane	I was very weak when I was in primary school. Then I started doing sports every day. That really worked! About half a year later, I felt much healthier than before. Now it has been a year since the last time I caught a cold. So just do some sports. I think sports will be good for you!
Eric	I used to be weak and unhealthy. I often stayed up late to play computer games. That did harm to my health. Then I changed the bad habit. And now I go to bed early every day. In my opinion, if you want to be healthy, you should develop a good habit.
Alice	I used to eat too many snacks every day. That made me feel weak and I often got a stomachache. In fact, it is important for us to eat healthy food. Playing sports is also important, of course.
