1 . Hummingbirds (蜂鸟) are a very important part of Mexico’s ecosystem, but because of the ever-spreading city landscape, they face all sorts of serious dangers. That’s where 73-year-old Catia Lattouf de Arida comes in. As a self-taught hummingbird care-taker, she devotes most of her free time and resources to nursing the tiny birds back to health. Her home in Mexico City has become known as a hummingbird hospital

Catia’s story as a hummingbird nurse began in 2011, at a very dificult moment in her life. At that time, she focused on her battle with cancer and fell into a depression (抑郁) . She was walking on the strect one day when she noticed a hummingbird that had suffered a serious eye injury. The kindhearted woman took it home and named it Gucci. She managed to nurse Gucci back to health, but she said it was Gucci that saved her. Why? Because the hummingbird managed to pull her out of the sadness and loneliness that had taken over her life.

Word of her success spread among Catia’s friends, and before long some of them began bringing her injured hummingbirds. She didn’t repulse them at all. She began to study the bird and their habits in order to better take care of them, and after 11 years of experience, the 73-year-old woman is considered an expert on hummingbirds.

In order to raise awareness of the difficult situation of hummingbirds in Mexico, Catia Lattouf de Arida started posting videos of the patients in her Mexico City apartment on social media, and many of them became popular. That’s when the need for her nursing services really blew up. She has cared for hundreds of hummingbirds in her 11-year career, when she has had as many as 50 of them in her apartment at any one time. She spends pretty much all her time looking after the tiny birds.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了中国烧烤食品的特色和吸引力。

2 . No doubt one of China’s greatest resources is its diverse cuisine. One of the most popular foods to be found is no doubt the street snacks that make up a large part of everyday life. “Compared with A Bite of China, which showcases chefs’ cooking processes and demonstrates delicious cuisine on air, Chinese Barbecue is more down-to-earth in depicting the people,” commented a viewer.

The new documentary series, called Chinese Barbecue, tells the story of this popular food option that sizzles (咝咝作响) over hot coals on just about every street comer in cities and towns across the country. Barbecued meat shining over hot coal containers, while not as elegant as some of the fine dining options in China, is an essential part of people’s night life. The pleasant smell and atmosphere surrounding the grilled (烤的) street food is “something that could entice people to fly downstairs at night,” the documentary claims.

In many Chinese eyes, barbecue, regarded as the most ordinary and common night street snack, is different from homemade food by mothers which is a symbol of kinship (亲切感). Barbecue is where you become connected to people in society. And unlike official business lunches, during which people are rather reserved and polite, barbecue lets people cut loose and relax with old friends and newly made friends, leaving a lasting impression of friendship.

On the other side of the world, in the United States, BBQ, well received by all ages, demonstrates the even more enthusiastic personality of Americans, who grill large steaks on their outdoor stoves at home and enjoy competing to see who has the better cooking skills. It’s safe to say that the world, as a whole, holds deep-rooted good feelings toward barbecue, either for the taste or the warmth generated by fire.

1. What is Chinese Barbecue?
A.A popular documentary.
B.A cooking class.
C.A soap opera of chefs.
D.A cuisine radio programme.
2. What makes barbecue distinguish from other food in Chinese’s view?
A.Quality food.
B.Polite atmosphere.
C.Beautiful cooking style.
D.Close bonds between friends.
3. What can we know from the passage?
A.A Bite of China is more down-to-earth in depicting the people.
B.Barbecued meat is not as elegant as some of the fine dining options in China.
C.Food made by restaurants is a symbol of kinship.
D.BBQ is well received only by the old in the UK.
4. Why does the author mention BBQ in the United States?
A.To present special American culture.
B.To show friendship between countries.
C.To indicate the popularity of BBQ.
D.To make a comparison with Chinese BBQ.

3 . To everyone’s surprise, Huawei launched the newest handset, the Mate 60 Pro, equipped with a 5G application processor and satellite phone function, without any prior announcement. This left many Chinese feeling amazed.

With the international situation becoming increasingly challenging, Huawei was encountering significant financial issues. For instance, its revenue (收入) in 2021 declined nearly 30 percent, according to its annual report. For a company like Huawei, this was a major shock and could pose a persistent problem that needed immediate attention. Therefore, it was crucial for Huawei to have its own core technology, especially when it came to chips. Developing chips is a lengthy, demanding, and labor-intensive (劳动密集型的) process, but this didn’t stop Huawei. Instead of purchasing or leasing products from other countries, Huawei decided to invest heavily in research and development.

Huawei’s difficulties are similar to those faced by modern China in its early days. During that time, China lacked advanced technology. Despite this, China managed to develop its own atomic bombs, aircraft carriers, satellites, and fighter jets starting from zero. These advancements guided the country to prosperity and power.

With a determined attitude and united team, Huawei has been successful in breaking free from the chains of past difficulties. In this context, Huawei is “a light canoe that has passed the mountains”.

As a storm of trouble approached, Huawei chose to confront it rather than give up. Huawei’s attitude of struggling and pushing ahead is the best presentation of the Chinese national spirit and serves as an example for others to follow. In the face of life’s unknown challenges, the key is to look ahead and not give in.

1. What’s the most important thing for Huawei to solve problems?
A.Independently developing chips.
B.Purchasing products from other countries.

2. Why did the author mention the four advancements in the third paragraph?
A.Thanks to advanced technology, China has developed its own atomic bombs.
B.Even in the face of various difficulties, Huawei is bound to succeed.
C.Advancements of atomic bombs guided the country to prosperity and power.
D.Huawei has passed the mountains to solve the significant financial issues.
3. According to the passage, what does the underlined word mean?
A.escape fromB.understand.C.separateD.challenge
4. What’s the best title of the passage?
A.Huawei have the same difficulties as others.
B.Huawei encounters financial issue
C.Huawei overcomes challenges
D.Huawei launched the Mate 60 Pro.

5 . Endangered polar bears are breeding with grizzly bears, creating “pizzly” bears, which is being driven by climate change, scientists say.

As the world warms and Arctic sea ice thins, starving polar bears are being forced ever further south, where they meet grizzlies, whose ranges are expanding northwards. And with that growing contact between the two come increasing hybrids (杂交种), “pizzly” bears.

With features that could give the hybrids an advantage in warming northern habitats, some scientists guess that they could be here to stay. “Usually, the hybrids,“pizzly” bears aren’t better suited to their environments than their parents, but these hybrids are able to search for a wider range of food sources, ” Larisa DeSantis, an associate professor of biological sciences at Vanderbilt University, told Live Science.

The rise of “pizzly” bears appears with polar bears’ decrease: their number is estimated to go down by more than 30% in the next 30 years. This sudden fall is related partly to “pizzly” bears taking up polar bears’ ranges, but also to polar bears’ highly specialized diets.

“Polar bears mainly consumed soft foods even during the Medieval Warm Period, a previous period of rapid warming,” DeSantis said, referring to fat meals such as seals. “Although all of these starving polar bears are trying to find alternative food sources like seabird eggs.” Actually, the calories they gain from these sources do not balance out(抵消) those they burn from searching for them. This could result in a habitat ready for the hybrids to move in and take over, leading to a loss in biodiversity if polar bears are replaced.

“We’re having massive impacts with climate change on species,” DeSantis said. “The polar bear is telling us how bad things are. In some sense, “pizzly” bears could be a sad but necessary compromise(妥协) given current warming trends.”

1. Why do polar bears move further south?
A.To create hybrids.B.To expand territory.
C.To deal with hunger.D.To contact grizzlies.
2. What makes “pizzly” bears adapt to natural surroundings better than their parents?
A.Wider habitats.B.More food choices.
C.Climate preference.D.Improved breeding ability.
3. What can we learn about polar bears from the passage?
A.Polar bears are increasing.B.Polar bears like soft foods.
C.Polar bears hate fat meals such as seals.D.Climate change can benefit polar bears.
4. What’s the main idea of the text?
A.Polar bears are changing diets for climate change.
B.Polar bears have already adjusted to climate change.
C.“Pizzly” bears are on the rise because of global warming.

When the dancers moved elegantly, audiences seemed to be looking at the moving mountains and rivers. “It brings me a pure experience of beauty. It is not only dance but also an ‘exhibition’. Vast mountains and rivers are coming to life!” An Internet user Mo Weisha wrote in a review, “About a thousand years later, green mountains and rivers still wow people as they did long ago.

Some people even decided to watch the dance again when it was staged in the theaters later. In fact, in recent years, more and more modern shows highlight Chinese traditional culture and have received warm welcome. As for why, it is due to people’s great love for traditional culture.
