Sports Day was getting close in the school. All the children were very excited and were practicing for the big race. John, one of the fast runners of the school, was confident that he would win for he was not doing anything at all. “You have to work hard to come first in the race John. You are not practicing at all,” said John’s mother.

“Mom, you know how fast I am! Why should I waste my time running? Only I will win; no one else will win!”said John. “John, you may be right but talent (天赋) without hard work is not good at all. This laziness of yours will cost you greatly,” his mother warned him. John just laughed. He was so confident that he would win the trophy (奖杯) as no one else in his class was as fast as he was!.

Tim, a classmate of John, was also participating (参加) in the running race. He was not a fast runner. However, he practiced till late at night and had developed great endurance (持久力) to run the race.

There were a few days left for the Sports Day but John did not practice at all. On the other hand, Tim practiced day and night.

The Sports Day was almost around the corner but John was confident that no one could beat him and had not practiced at all. But Tim with his hard work had become a very great runner.

At last, the Sports Day arrived. All the students showed up on the ground to cheer their favorites. The coach blew the whistle (口哨) and everyone began to run toward the finishing line. It was so exciting. John and Tim left all the racers far behind. Both of them were neck to neck.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章是关于建立社区运动对的建议。

7 . Community sports teams provide great ways for players of all ages to have fun and socialize while they keep their skills sharp and get some exercise. If you can’t find one in your area, you can start one yourself.     1

Do your research.

2     If you find that you are the first in your community to recognize such a need, ensure that you can find enough local interest in your sport. You can invite one or two to join you in forming a preliminary leadership team.

Establish a budget.

To figure out what expenses (支出) you’ll need to cover, think about everything you’ll need to set up for your first game: Do you need to pay for using the facilities?     3     Once you’ve laid out all of your costs, try to find out what revenues (收入) you’ll need to cover your expenses.

Create a league of your own.

It might seem like overkill to draft some legal documents if all you want to do is meet up with some friends for a game on Sunday mornings.     4     Playtime goes much more smoothly if everyone agrees to the same rules before the game begins.

Plan for the future.

Consider getting and training new volunteers and keep young players coming in to replace those lost to busy careers or family responsibilities.     5     There might be a possibility of you deciding to quit.

A.Do you need to buy sports equipment?
B.What social benefits might your club bring to the region?
C.Read on to find tips for starting your own sports club team.
D.And don’t forget to pass your knowledge and enthusiasm on to the next generation.
E.But having written guidelines in place will help to keep everyone on the same page.
F.Check with your local community center to see if a league already exists for your sport.
G.You may have spoken to someone in the community during your initial search for a league.

10 . Patriotic Zhang Weili won her historic fighting championship in Shenzhen on August 31, 2019. The 30-year-old fighter from Hebei Province produced a huge upset to knock out Brazilian Jessica Andrade and became China’s first UFC world champion.

Zhang entered the straw weight bout as a big loser to Andrade, who is tied with the most UFC wins(11) by a woman. However, after a series of devastating knee kicks and punches(重拳), Andrade was floored in the 42nd second of the first round and the challenger was declared winner by TKO. “Last year in Beijing I vowed(发誓)to become the first Chinese champion, and I did it!” said Zhang. “As a Chinese, I feel so proud. Today, I want to dedicate this victory to my motherland,” she added.

UFC boss Dana White declared Zhang “the most vicious woman on the planet right now” and revealed he is already planning the new champion’s next fight in the United States. Zhang appealed to White to smooth out some reasonable concerns she has about a US fight. “Please make sure all my corners can come because last time they couldn’t come for visa issues,” she said. “But all my coaches are here with me, supporting me and I won the belt.”

With six years’ experience in UFC, Andrade has a reputation for crucially seeing off opponents. But Zhang, who is known for her fierce “buzz saw” attacking style, never allowed Andrade to get going. “I think the keys to my win were my calm mindset and the strategy defined by my coaches. All the strategies were practical and predicted every move to help me seize every opportunity,” Zhang said.

She was the first Chinese fighter to even get a title shot from the UFC, which is now pushing hard into a Chinese market where interest in MMA is growing rapidly. Afterwards, Zhang hoped to inspire more young Chinese women to take up MMA and to be a source of inspiration for women, both in MMA and everyday life.
