Lack of motivation is one of top exercise killers, but joining a sports club can help. Most of us associate value with money. When something is free of, it is easy to dismiss them as an unimportant thing. And when we pay for classes at a sports club, we are easily motivating to get the most value out of the investment. If anything can get you out of bed at 6 am, it is the thought that you were wasting some dollars by stay at home. Classes give you a period of scheduled times each week to go to the club and work out. If they are instructors or a group of classmates, they can provide encouragement for you and motivate you to work hardly.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了每年一度的山地越野车比赛——The Andler Hillclimb。

6 . The Andler Hillclimb is an annual dirt bike competition that has dirt bikers from around Europe try, to reach the top of a dangerous hillside course in Belgium. It’s been held every year for the last two decades, but so far, no one has been able to reach the top.

The so-called “impossible climb” starts out as rough gravel and then switches over to a rough uneven cliff (悬崖) face designed to throw riders off and roll them and their bikes back down to the base of the hill. It’s not the angle of the course that is the problem, according to most riders, but the sudden change of ride surface that makes keeping control of the bike and reaching the top so hard. Some fly off their bike early during the climb. While others get painfully close to the finish line, yet in the end they all succumb to the power of gravity (重力) before reaching their goal.

Despite gathering the most talented dirt bikers in Europe at the start line every year, the Andler Hillclimb has so far remained unconquered. The closest one to success was a Suzuki bike rider who once reportedly crossed the finish line with the front wheel before rolling back down the slope like the rest of the competitors. Sadly, his achievement didn’t count as a valid climb, as the entire bike and its rider must make it to the top of the hill.

With so many riders having failed to conquer the Andler Hillclimb over the last 20 years, why are people still trying every year? Why not just call the climb impossible and stop it? Well, maybe it has something to do with the bragging rights (胜者为王)? Can you imagine what it would be like to be the very first dirt biker to reach the top of this famous hill?

In case you want to try your luck, or if you simply want to see the hill make fools of dozens of daredevils (蛮干者), this year’s event is scheduled for August.

1. What makes it difficult for bikers to reach the top of the Andler Hillclimb?
A.The bikers’ poor riding skills.B.The steep angle of the slope.
C.The rough gravel road surface.D.The sudden changes in ride surface.
2. What do the underlined words “succumb to’’ in the second paragraph probably mean?
A.Give in to.B.Break through.
C.Learn about.D.Fight against.
3. Why does the author mention the example in the third paragraph?
A.To criticize the strict rules of the competition.
B.To express regret over the Suzuki bike rider’s failure.
C.To show how difficult it is to win the competition.
D.To explain why the competition is popular with bikers.
4. What do we know about the Andler Hillclimb from the passage?
A.It is the most dangerous European competition.
B.It is expected to be held in August this year.
C.It is attended by the world’s best dirt bikers every year.
D.It aims to throw riders and their bikes back down the hill.

7 . The health benefits of staying active are already well-known. It can help you manage weight, keep blood sugar levels down and reduce risk factors for heart disease.

Now, a new study suggests that regularly playing sports, especially badminton or tennis, is not only healthy but also reduces your risk of death, at any age, by approximately 50%. This is a big scale population study to explore the health benefits of sports in terms of death rate. The study evaluated responses from 80, 306 adults aged 30 and above in England and Scotland, who were surveyed about their health, lifestyle and exercise patterns.

After adjusting factors such as age, sex, weight, smoking habits, alcohol use, education and other forms of exercise besides the named sports, the researchers compared the risk of death among people who took part in a sport to those who didn’t. The percentage of reduced risk of death was found to be: 47% for racket(球拍)sports, 28% for swimming and 15% for cycling.

In addition to this, the study didn’t find any significant reduction in the risk for sports like running and football. The findings also exposed that over 44% of the participants met the guidelines for the recommended exercise levels to stay fit and healthy, which amounts to 150 minutes of moderate(适度的) physical activity in a week.

Does this mean you stop running or playing football and switch to tennis instead? Every kind of sport and physical activity has different physical, social and mental benefits attached to it. The apparent lack of benefits of running and football could result from several variables that were not taken into account.

Being active helps you feel happier and live longer. So, the most important step is to take part in any kind of sport that you are likely to enjoy and follow in the long term.

1. How is the study conducted?
A.By doing comparative experiments.B.By analyzing previous data.
C.By evaluating survey information.D.By tracking participants for a long time.
2. What does the underlined part “the named sports” refer to?
A.Ball sports.B.Racket sports.
C.Individual sports.D.Traditional sports.
3. What can we infer from paragraph 5?
A.Few people will play football.B.Tennis will become more popular.
C.The result of this study is wrong.D.The study needs to be further improved.
4. What does the author advise people to do?
A.Stick to any sport that you like.B.Play badminton and tennis only.
C.Stop running and playing football.D.Do any sport according to guidelines.
