2 . There's a lot of losing in sports. Only one team can win at a time, and only one champion escapes the season without tears. But that doesn't stop Americans from spending nearly $56 billion a year on sporting events. Is fandom (运动迷) worth it?

At first glance, the evidence isn't encouraging. Following a loss, fans are more likely than usual to eat unhealthy food, be unproductive at work, and in the case of the Super Bowl - die from heart disease. What about fans of the winning team? Well, they are more likely than other fans to suffer a postgame traffic fatality(死亡)if the score was close.

Rival(竞争的)fans' treatment of one another is hardly more encouraging. A recent study found that fans experienced greater pleasure when watching a rival team fail,as opposed to non-rivals. Fans in another study reported schadenfreude, a feeling of satisfaction, when reading about the injury of a rival team's player, and gluckschmerz or unhappiness when later reading about the player' s unexpectedly speedy recovery.

Yet a great deal of research shows that being a fan can also have positive effects. It can prevent depression and build a sense of belonging and self-worth ----- provided the object of one's devotion is a local team. Much of this is due to social bonds among fans, but not all - sports worship also provides fans with a number of skills at dealing with life's emotional challenges. A landmark 1976 study found that after a win, fans were more likely than usual to wear clothes connected to the winning team, and to claim credit for the team’s success by describing the team as “we” instead of “they ”in conversation.

Along with schadenfreude and gluckschmerz, being a fan seems more than anything else to be a matter of managing responses to things one can't control. Sports fans tend to respond to reminders of death with optimism, and to remember victories much more clearly than defeats.

1. What can be learned about the winning side's fans?
A.They tend to live an unhealthy life.B.They might have a traffic accident.
C.They might die from heart disease.D.They can perform their work better.
2. How does the author present the advantages of being a fan?
A.By providing research results.B.By stating arguments.
C.By explaining statistical data.D.By giving examples.
3. What did the 1976 study show?
A.Being a fan could test relationships.
B.Being a fan could show great devotion to duty.
C.Being a fan could create a feeling of belonging.
D.Being a fan could develop a spirit of optimism.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.The importance of being a fanB.What it' s like to be a fan
C.Being a fan can be good for youD.A fan's emotional challenges

3 . After nearly two months of relative silence among new waves ofCOVID-19 pandemic infection in Japan, organizers of Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday released the first of playbooks that will instruct athletes, officials and members of the news media on the procedures they must follow at the rescheduled Games.

Already delayed by a year, the opening ceremony is now a little more than 120 days away. Organizers must find a way to accommodate and ensure the safety of more than 10,000 athletes who view this summer as the result of years of sacrifice and training.

For now, the best that organizers could offer were the outlines of a plan. Athletes and other attendees will not be required to be vaccinated (接种疫苗) or to quarantine (隔离) on arrival in Japan, but they will be subject to severe restrictions on movement and socializing. All athletes will be required to test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours of their departure for Japan and give in to another test on arrival.

The organizers said the documents were not an end. They would wait until spring to decide if audiences will be permitted to travel to Tokyo. If fans are eventually allowed to attend, the documents suggest they be asked to express support for athletes only in the form of clapping, rather than singing or chanting. To track outbreaks, visitors from abroad will have to file a list of everyone they have close contact with during that initial 14-day period.

Olympic officials see some reason for optimism. In many parts of the world, professional sporting events have been held for months, though often with very few or no spectators at all, and nothing as large as the Summer Games.

A.Guiding athletes into facilities.B.Teaching athletes to follow the steps of the Games.
C.Informing reporters of upcoming events.D.Training officials in organizational work.
2. What will athletes be required to do on arriving in Japan?
A.To prove COVID-19 negative with a test.
B.To be banned from moving around and socializing.
C.To test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours of arrival.
D.To be vaccinated and to quarantine for at least 72 hours.
3. Which of the following can be concluded from the text?
A.The playbooks mark the end of preparations for the Olympics.
B.Foreigners won’t be vaccinated because the pandemic will have ended.
C.Foreigners will report their initial 14-day’s close contacts.
D.Foreign visitors will flood to Japan to watch the Olympics.
4. What is the prospect of the Tokyo Olympiad?
A.It will be ever the most successful sporting event.
B.It is still unpredictable with uncertainties.
C.The number of spectators will be small.
D.Athletes worldwide will participate regardless of the pandemic.

5 . When I was 6, my elder brother brought me to the local BMX(自行车越野) track to ride in a kid’s race for the first time. The hill out of the starting gate looked so scary and step that I backed off. My parents took me back for another try the next week. I fell almost immediately but still managed to win the second place. I’ve loved racing ever since.

I turned pro at 15, which isn’t possible now: You have to be 17 to compete professionally around the time I went pro, BMX became an Olympic sport and I decided to pursue it after high school. I’m the youngest woman with a professional title in the United States.

BMX isn’t judged on tricks or how you handle barriers, but it’s an extreme sport. It’s like horse racing mixed with riding a roller coaster. It starts with a huge burst of speed—I go 40 mph by the time. I’m two and a half seconds out of the gate. Then I try to come out in front of seven competitors at the end of the track, which includes 40-foot jumps. I keep chasing the high that comes from prestart nervousness, big jumps, and that feeling of crossing the finish line first.

Strength and balance are key in competition, so I work out at least five days a week to prepare. I do tons of resistance and agility(灵活) training, both on and off the bike. I also do mental drills with a sports psychologist to make sure I’m focused and confident going into competition. If I make a mistake on the course, I have to move on. Everyone is out to beat me; I need to concentrate on winning so my competitors can’t capitalize on an error and pass me!

I was so proud to win a silver medal at the Olympics in Rio, but I felt I was capable of gold, so that will push me to do better. I’m continually working to reach my potential in the sport. Until I feel completely satisfied, I’ll keep coming back.

1. What do we know about the author?
A.She withdrew from her first BMX race.
B.She became the youngest BMX rider in America.
C.Her parents forced her to turn BMX professional.
D.Her efforts resulted in BMX entering the Olympics.
2. To win the BMX race, the author has to________.
A.jump highestB.focus on other competitors
C.play tricksD.keep balanced all the way
3. The underlined phrase “capitalize on” in Paragraph4probably means_________.
A.make up forB.take advantage of
C.keep an eye onD.take notice of
4. What qualities have led to the author’s success?
A.Proud and serious.B.Ambitious and hard-working.
C.Optimistic and generous.D.Independent and cooperative.

6 . It’s summertime. That means long hot days, no school--- and summer camps. Lots of kids spend at least some of the summer at camps. Some kids spend the whole year playing one sport. And what do they do during the summer? They go to a camp and keep playing that sport. So what’s wrong with that?

A study published in the journal Sports Health found that “for most sports, there is no evidence that intense (集中的) training and playing one sport before 13 or 14 are necessary to achieve elite (精英的)status.” How big is the risk of injury if you specialize in one sport? A Loyola University Chicago study of 1, 200 youth athletes found that kids who specialized in one sport were 70 percent to 93 percent more likely to be injured than multi-sport athletes. That’s a lot. Kids who specialize in one sport also get burned out. An Ohio State University study found that kids who played a single sport were more likely to quit their sport and be physically inactive as adults.

But don’t you have to specialize in one sport when you’re a kid to have a chance to play in college or be a professional? No! Sorry, but I have to talk about another study. This one was a survey of college athletes by the American Society of Sports Medicine. The study found that 88 percent of college athletes played more than one sport when they were kids.

Look at this year’s National Football League (NFL) draft, 26 of the 31 first- round picks, including Jared Goff, the player drafted ahead of all the others, had been multi-sport athletes in high school, according to Tracking Football. It wasn’t just the first round: 224 of the 256 draft picks had played more than one sport in high school. More than a third of the drafted players were three-sport athletes.

So if you are a year-round baseball kid, try soccer this summer. It will get you into great shape and help you move your feet in the field. Or if you’re a soccer kid, try tennis or rock climbing. Have some fun, and try something new. It’s summertime.

1. What’s the purpose of the author writing the text?
A.To invite more kids to play sports.
B.To inspire kids to play sports for fun.
C.To encourage kids to try more types of sports.
D.To give kids advice on becoming professional athletes.
2. What has the study in Sports Health found?
A.Playing one sport is suitable for adults.
B.Too much training doesn’t lift sport spirits.
C.70%-93% kids get injuries from playing sports.
D.Kids’ sport specialization doesn’t promise future success.
3. What can we learn about NFL drafted players?
A.Most of them were multi-sport players.
B.They are college students.
C.They are professional athletes.
D.Most of them were summer-camping lovers.
4. Which of the following shows the structure of the text? (P---paragraph )
A.B.
C.D.
