文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,跑步是一种很好的锻炼,但是对身体要求高。作者就降低跑步受伤风险提出了五点建议。

1 . Five tips for safe running

We all know that exercise is good for our health. But some kinds of exercise may be better than others. Running, for example, may help to protect against heart disease and other health problems.

Running is good exercise, but it can be hard on the body.     1

Take it easy. Do not run too much, too soon or too fast. Most people get running injuries (受伤) when they push themselves too bad. The body needs time to get used to increase in distance or speed.     2

Listen to your body. Most running injuries do not come unexpectedly (意外地).     3

They may include body aches, sore muscles (肌肉) and pain that does not go away.

4     There is no single best shoe for every runner. You should find the shoe that offers the best fit and support for your feet. More importantly, you should replace your shoes every 500 to 800 kilometers.

Take good notes. Take time after each run to write down what you did and how you felt. Look for patterns, things that happen over again. These notes will help you find the best exercise for you.

Cross train. As we said earlier, running is hard on your body. So physical fitness experts suggest some form of cross training to improve muscle balance and to help you stay injury free. They say, besides running, swimming, yoga, and riding a bicycle are good exercises.     5

A.Get good running shoes.
B.Here are five ideas to reduce the risk of injury.
C.Muscles and joints (关节) need time to recover.
D.Running may also help you live longer
E.These exercises are easier on the body.
F.Usually, there are warning signs.
G.As advertisements for the running shoe Nike say, “just do it.”

2 . Playing sports offers you more than just physical benefits (好处).     1     The benefits are the same whether or not you’re good at sports. If you are not good enough to play competitively on a school team, you can play sports with your friends.

Making new friends.

Playing sports enables you to create friendships you otherwise might not have formed.     2     You play together happily and gradually know each other. Many times, the friendships you create on the field remain strong when you are not playing sports.

Understanding the value of health.

Taking part in sports improves your health in many ways.     3     This gets you thinking about what to eat and how to treat your body so as to achieve the highest performance levels. Thus, playing sports can lead to better eating habits and prevent you from becoming too fat.

Building team spirit.

Sports provide children with the important lesson of learning how to work in a team.     4     By working together they will learn each other’s strengths and weaknesses and will be better able to decide and work out the best plan for the team. This will without doubt help them in their future lives and jobs as well.

    5

Playing sports requires a lot of time and energy. Some may think this would take students’ attention away from schoolwork. However, the opposite is true. Sports require memorization, repetition and learning — skills that are directly relevant (有关的) to schoolwork.

A.Doing better in your studies.
B.Everyone has to work together to achieve the goal.
C.To be a good athlete, you must take care of yourself.
D.Sports can help you in your study and fit in with society as well.
E.Sports bring teens together from different schools and backgrounds.

3 . How to Maintain a Healthy Body Weight

Our life is too much involved in work, earning money and eating junk food. Keeping the body in good shape should be the first priority in our daily schedule. Nutrition is a key factor, but our health depends not only on what nutrients we eat, but how much of those nutrients we absorb, and how well and how regularly the body’s waste products are eliminated.     1     Once these are in place, you can achieve your ideal shape.

Try not to eat too much junk food

2     Eating lots of pizzas, burgers, and so on not only makes you feel lazy and increases your body fat, but it can also cause heart problems.

Eat healthily when you eat out

When you see these words on the menu, skip these items altogether or share them so that you can eat a smaller part: “fried”, “cream sauce”, “cheese” and “dipped”. Don’t give up on going out to eat. Simply learn how to do it the right way and get a sense of how many calories there are in what you are ordering.

    3
Make a habit of doing exercise every day

Find an exercise that you like. Don’t simply start exercising. Experiment with different activities in different settings with different people until you find the one that you love doing.

4     You won’t do it often enough to maintain a healthy body weight unless you love it.

    5

Make friends with people who you notice exercising in the neighborhood or walking at lunchtime. Take your lunch breaks with people who take a packed lunch to work. Your aim is to find like-minded people that share the goal of maintaining a healthy body weight. They can work out with you, give you tips and encourage you to keep going whenever you want to quit.

A.Make friends with neighbors and co-workers.
B.Have lunch with your neighbors and co-workers.
C.You can maintain a healthy body weight, even if you eat out.
D.There is no such thing as the “best” exercise if you don’t do it often enough.
E.You will need to build a few healthy habits into your lifestyle.
F.Junk food is to blame for your weight gain, so try to eat less junk food.
G.You can find the best exercise once you start exercising with the help of trainers.

6 . An Olympic Village is a place that houses Olympic competitors. It is a place where they prepare for what might be the most important moment in their life. But we want to know more about this mysterious place: What really happens in the village?

We asked swimmer Natalie Coughlin, a three time Olympian and 12 -time medalist. She says, “People think it’s a lot more attractive and interesting than it is. It isn’t. It’s like a huge college campus, including a bank, a salon, a post office, and a huge cafeteria- except that everyone is anxious, getting ready for their biggest event under unbelievably high pressure (压力).”

But some other Olympians look differently at their campus. “It’s like the first day of college,” water polo player Tony Azevedo says. “You’re super excited. Everyone s meeting people and trying to socialize with others,”

Coughlin says the best spot to be in the village is the cafeteria. Not only does it provide a place to talk with the rest of the athletes from your country but it’s a great chance for people watching. One of her favorite games was to tell what sport someone in front of her took based on their body type.

Living in the same village means athletes run into one another all the time. Coughlin shares this story: While in London in 2012, at one point applause (欢呼) broke out at the arrival of someone. Coughlin thought it was one of the British royals (王室成员), but it ended up being Jamaica’s Usain Bolt (the world’s greatest runner alive). Runner Allyson Felix— a winner of six gold Olympic medals— has also had her run-ins. In 2008, she came across the world-famous U. S. men’s basketball team, including Anthony, Bryant, Wade and other top players.

It’s “a pretty wild scene, the biggest melting pot— a place where large numbers of people, ideas, and cultures are mixed together— you’ve been in,” said swimmer Eric Shanteau. Felix agrees, saying, “You get to meet people from other countries that you wouldn’t even come into contact with. To me that’s the coolest thing.

10 . E-sports describes the world of competitive, organized video gaming. Competitors from different leagues or teams compete in the same video games: Fortnite, League of Legends, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, to name a few. These gamers are watched and followed by millions of their fans all over the world, who attend live events or watch on TV or online. Streaming services, like Twitch, allow viewers to watch their favorite gamers playing in real time.

According to a report from Newzoo, a market analytics (分析) company, 380 million people worldwide will watch e-sports this year. Most of these e-sports lovers will watch from North America, China and South Korea.

Colleges have even got in on the action. More than 50 colleges in America have e-sports programs, recognized by a governing body called the National Association of Collegiate E-sports. NACE tournaments (锦标赛) give out thousands of dollars in prize money, which is put to scholarships for the winners.

E-sports players, like traditional athletes, can make big money. Tournaments can provide millions of dollars in prize money, which is typically divided among the players on the winning teams. That means a world’s very tip-top player can easily earn up to seven figures of money in a year. Teams and event organizers also earn money from ticket sales for these competitions.
