文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了眼睛能够传递很多信息。通过列举不同情况下,眼睛表达的不同意义,证明了“眼睛会说话”。

1 . Much information can be clearly conveyed, purely through our eyes, so the expression “eyes also talk” is often heard.

Can you think of any experience that further proves this? On a bus you may quickly glance at a stranger, but not make eye contact. If he senses that he is being stared at, he may feel uncomfortable.

It is the same in daily life. If you are looked at for more than necessary, you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is anything wrong with you. If nothing goes wrong, you will feel angry about other’s staring at you that way. Eyes do speak, right?

Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive. But things are different when it comes to staring at the opposite sex. If a man continues to glance at a woman for more than 10 seconds, his intentions are obvious. That is, he wishes to make her understand that he is admiring her.

However, the normal eye contact for two people engaged in conversation is that the speaker will only look at the listener from time to time, In order to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what the former is speaking. As for the listener, he will, to a certain degree, look continuously at the speaker to tell him that he is attentive.

If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking, as if he tries to control you, you will feel uneasy. A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the victim, since he believes the false idea that to look straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication.

In fact, continuous eye contact is limited to lovers only, who will enjoy looking at each other gently for a long time, to show affection that words cannot express.

Clearly, eye contact should be done according to the relationship between two people and specific situation.

1. What may person usually do on a bus?
A.Stare at a stranger for more than necessary.B.Use eyes to talk to a stranger politely.
C.Talk to a stranger politely after a quick glance.D.Glance at a stranger without eye contact.
2. What does it mean if a man looks at a woman for over 10 second??
A.He likes her eyes.B.He knows her well.
C.He admires her.D.He makes contact with her.
3. Why is a poor liar easy to be seen through?
A.He looks straight at the victim for too long a time.B.He feels uneasy about others’ eye contact.
C.He wants to control the victim.D.He thinks that he is honest.
4. What’s the main idea of the text?
A.Eye contact matters.B.Eyes can speak.
C.Don’t stare at others.D.Use your eye contact.

2 .

Cheating can happen in a lot of different ways. When people cheat,it’s not fair to other people, like the kids who studied for the test or who the true winners of a game were.

Many people like the action of cheating. In their opinion,it makes difficult things seem easy, like getting all the right answers on the test. But it doesn't solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won't help on the next test—unless the person cheats again.

Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them. The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they shouldn't get that good grade. And,if they get caught cheating, they will be in trouble at school, and maybe at home, too.

Some kids cheat because they're busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying.Other kids might feel like they can’t pass the test without cheating.Even when there seems to be a “good reason” for cheating, cheating isn’t a good idea.

If you were sick or upset about something the night before the day and couldn’t study,it would be better to talk with the teacher about this. And if you don’t have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice, you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and school.A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions together.Talking about these problems and working them out will feel better than cheating.

1. What does the author think when kids cheat in class?
A.It is unfair to other people.
B.It does harm to their health.
C.Teachers should punish them.
D.Teachers shouldn't stop them at once.
2. Why do many people like to cheat?
A.Because they think the material in the test is very difficult.
B.Because they want to do better than the others.
C.Because cheating can make hard things seem very easy.
D.Because they have little time to study their lessons.
3. What does the fourth paragraph mainly tell us?
A.Some kids can’t pass the test without cheating.
B.Why kids cheat in the test.
C.Cheating isn’t a good idea.
D.Some kids don't spend the time studying.
4. What can we learn from the passage?

3 . My teacher held up a piece of broken glass and asked, “Who broke this window?”

Thirty boys tried to think about not only what they had done, but also what the teacher might have found out. She seldom became angry, but she was this time.

“Oh,” I thought. I was the one who broke the window. It was caused by a naughty throw of a baseball. If I admitted guilt, I would be in a lot of trouble. How would I be able to pay for a big window like that? I didn’t even get an allowance. “My father is going to have a fit as a result of it,” I thought. I didn’t want to raise my hand, but some force much stronger than I was pulled it skyward (朝向天空). I told the truth, “I did it.” It was hard enough to say what I had done.

My teacher took down a book from one of our library shelves and I had never known my teacher to strike a student, but I feared she was going to start with me.

“I know how much you like birds,” she said as she stood looking down at my guilt-ridden face. “Here is the field guide about birds that you are constantly checking out. It is yours now. It’s time we got a new one for the school anyway. You will not be punished, but remember that I am not rewarding you for your misdeed (恶行), but I am rewarding you for your truthfulness.”

I couldn’t believe it! I wasn’t being punished and I was getting my own bird field guide — the very one that I had been saving up money to buy.

6 . Love your parents

Even if you think that your parents are mean-spirited at times, loving your parents is a normal and fulfilling (满意的)part of life. You love them for the fact that they created you, raised you, and are in part a source of who you are. Here are some ways to love your parents.

1     A gentle "good morning" and "I love you" will warm a coldest heart. Remember that they brought you into this world. Without your parents, you might sill wander at an unknown corner in an unknown world.

Respect them more and cherish(珍惜)these moments. You can use these moments to learn from them when you're off on your own. It's OK to get angry but angry actions don't help you or your parents. Act calmly, cool off, journal about your feelings, or talk to a friend.     2

Obey their requests. It will make your attitude better and earn you more respect from them. It may seem like you are going through hell when you don't get what you want or you have to clean. However, you had better remember they keep a roof over your head when it's cold, raining, snowing, or too hot. Understand that parents are human beings and make mistakes.     3     Since you can forgive your friends, why not forgive your parents?

Keep company with them. Do things with your parents like watching TV, or go somewhere with them.       4     Listen to their old stories and learn from them. You will find they are your teachers in this way or another.

Some people simply may not be able to love their parents. .    5     Look for help if you are being abused violently. Parents do not have a right to harm you.

7 . Some years ago, I was hired by an American bank. I received a letter from the head of the Personnel Department that started, “Dear John, I am quite pleased that you have decided to join us.” That “quite” saddened me. I thought he was saying “we’re kind of pleased you decided to join us although I wish we had hired someone else.” Then I discovered that in American English “quite” sometimes means “very”, while in British English it means “fairly”.

So the first lesson about working in other countries is to learn the language and by that I don’t just mean the words people speak. It is body language, dress, manners, ideas and so on. The way people do things highlights many of the differences we see between cultures.

Some of the differences may be only on the surface——dress, food and hours of work——while others may be deeper and take longer to deal with. Mostly, it is just a question of getting used to the differences and accepting them, like the climate, while getting on with business.

Some of the differences may be an improvement. People are more polite; the service is better; you ask for something to be done and it happens without having to ask again. However, other differences can be troubling, like punctuality. If you invite people to a party at 7 o'clock your quests will consider it polite to turn up exactly on time in Germany, five minutes early in the American Midwest, an hour early in Japan, 15 minutes afterwards in the UK, up to an hour afterwards in Italy and some time in the evening in Greece. I prefer not to use the word “late” because there is nothing wrong with the times people arrive. It is simply the accepted thing to do in their own country.

1. The author was unhappy as mentioned in paragraph 1 because he thought ________
A.The American bank didn’t think much of him.
B.The American bank might hire another person.
C.It’s difficult to get used to American culture.
D.It’s easy to understand Americans.
2. The word “highlight” in paragraph 2 probably means
A.encouragesB.helps to narrow
C.increaseD.stress
3. According to the author, what should we do with most cultural differences?
A.Ask the native people for help.B.Understand and accept them.
C.Do things in our own ways.D.Do in-depth research.
4. When invited to a party the people who are usually punctual are ________ .
A.ItaliansB.Germans
C.GreeksD.the British

8 . With the development of our society, cellphones have become a common part in our lives. Have you ever run into a careless cellphone user in the street? Maybe they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new "species" of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name—phubbers (低头族).

Recently a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities bury themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cellphone while letting his patient die. A pretty woman takes a selfie (自拍) in front of a car accident site. And a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events will finally lead to the destruction(毁灭) of the world.

Although the ending of the film sounds unrealistic, the damage phubbing can bring is real. Your health is the first to bear the effect and the result of it. "Always bending your head to check your cellphone could damage your neck," Guangming Daily quoted doctors' words. "The neck is like a rope that breaks after long-term stretching." Also, staring at cellphones for a long time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report.

But that's not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. When getting together with family or friends, many people prefer to play their cellphones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported.

It can also cost your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cellphones in broad daylight.

1. Why does the author give the example of a cartoon in Paragraph 2?
A.To suggest phubbers will destroy the world.
B.To call for people to go walking without phones.
C.To tell people the bad effects of phubbing.
D.To advise students to create more cartoons like this.
2. According to the passage, what risks may a phubber have?
① Destructing the world.
② Affecting his social skills.
③ Damaging his neck and eyesight.
④ Getting separated from his friends and family.
A.①②④B.②③④C.①③④D.①②③④
3. What's the author's attitude towards phubbing?
A.Supportive.B.Confident.C.Disapproving.D.Unconcerned.
4. What will be talked about in the following paragraph?
A.Ways to avoid the risks of phubbing.B.Bad effects of phubbing.
C.Daily life of phubbers.D.Behaviours of phubbers.

It’s affordable. Berlin has cheap hotels and everyday objects. You don’t have to worry about spending too much money when visiting Berlin.
