Eiffel Tower, Paris
Built in 1887, it’s the symbol of Paris and one of the most photographed buildings in the world. A visit to the Eiffel Tower is a must for all travelers. No other landmarks in the world inspire such a strong feeling of love for travel as this single iron structure (钢铁建筑). This is a city where travelers of all kinds can find the experience they’re after.
The Statue of Liberty, New York City
America is full of great sights and places to visit, but it’s the Statue of Liberty that symbolizes the United States. This symbol of freedom in New York City was gifted by the French to the American people in 1886. The best thing to do is to take a ride up to her crown (王冠) and get the view over the city.
The Acropolis, Athens
Standing above present-day Athens, the Acropolis draws you up and in. Follow in the footsteps of the ancients as you walk up the same steps that have been walked on since 438 BC. Views out over the city are amazing as you walk between the ancient buildings. Near the end of the day, you’ll want to watch the sunset from the stairs near the entrance.
Pyramids of Giza, Egypt
If you’ve visited places like the Colosseum in Rome or the Acropolis in Athens, built over 2,000 years ago, you may think you have a good handle on ancient sites. 4 . If you ever get sick of polite society and think you’re up for the challenge of living out there, take a look at these four of the world’s most remote communities.
Tristan da Cunha
Tristan da Cunha is officially the most remote inhabited archipelago (群岛) in the world, sitting 1,750 miles from the nearest land in South Africa, with a permanent population of less than 300. The islands were discovered by Portuguese explorer Tristão da Cunha in 1506. Eventually, the islands came under the control of the United Kingdom.
Ascension Island
Ascension Island is found in the South Atlantic Ocean, about 1,000 miles from South Africa in 1501. The island is home to an airfield used by the U.K. and U.S. militaries, both of which greatly contribute to the island’s total population of about 880 people. It is impossible to become a citizen of Ascension Island without an employment contract.
Foula
Foula is only 2.5 miles by 3.5 miles and is home to a mere 31 people. The island’s inhabitants traditionally made their living from fishing, but in recent years tourism and sheep herding have developed as tax contributors.
Easter Island
Easter Island, famed for its iconic stone statues, is also one of the most remote communities in the world. The island is 15.3 miles by 7.6 miles and has at least 4,000 residents. Today many residents make a living catering to the tourists who flock there to explore the nature, history and culture of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

5 . Wildfire, or wildland fire, is the uncontrolled fire occurring in a forest, grassland or bushlands.
Fire danger in a wildland setting varies with weather conditions: drought, heat, and wind. Once a fire is burning, drought, heat, and wind all increase its intensity. Topography(地形) also affects wildfire, which spreads quickly uphill and slowly downhill. Dried grass, leaves, and light branches are considered flash fuels, and fire spreads quickly in them, often generating enough heat to burn heavier fuels such as tree stumps(树桩), heavy branches, and the organic matter of the forest floor. Such fuels, ordinarily slow to burn, are difficult to extinguish. Green fuels—growing vegetation-are not considered to catch fire easily, but an intense fire can dry out leaves and needles quickly enough to allow ready burning. Green fuels sometimes carry a special danger. Evergreens, such as pine and spruce(云杉), contain oils that easily burst into flames when heated sufficiently by the searing drafts(灼热的气流) of a forest fire.
Firefighting forces are specially trained to deal with wildfires. Aircraft were first used in fighting wildland fires in 1919. Now airplanes and helicopters are primarily used for dumping water, for observation, and occasionally for assisting in communication and transporting personnel, supplies, and equipment
Tools for fighting wildfires range from the standard equipment of urban fire departments to portable pumps, tank trucks, and earth-moving equipment. It can also change the fire’s direction as well as slowing its progress. They are maintained by public and private owners of forestlands. Such a force may attack a fire directly by spraying water, beating out flames, and removing vegetation at the edge of the fire to contain it behind a fire line. When the very edge is too hot to approach, a fire line is built at a safe distance, sometimes using strip (长条地带) burning to get rid of the fuel in the path of the uncontrolled fire.
