My hometown Zhangye, which lies in the northwest of Gansu Province, is a city with rolling hills, valleys and basins. It's beautiful place for people to live in. Its economy has been growing rapid during the past ten year. New bridges and roads have been setting up and high buildings stood in many parts of the city. The number of schools and hospitals available to people are also on the increase. So there are still some problems, such as like frequent traffic jams and severe air pollution, which have a bad influence on people's daily life. Despite these problems, I am convinced that my hometown will become much beautiful. Time permitting, you are welcome to visit them.

England is the larger of the four countries, and for convenience it is divided rough into three zones. The zone nearest France is called the South of England, the middle zone is called the Midlands and the one nearest to Scotland is known for the North. You find most of the population settled in the south, and most of the industrial city in the Midlands and the North of England.

Although. nationwide, these cities are not as large as those in China,but they have world-famous football teams and some of which even have two! It is pity that the industrial cities built in the nineteen century do not attract visitors. For historical architecture you have to go to older but smaller towns building by the Romans.

7 . Yellowstone National Park became America's first national park in 1872. The National Park Service was formed 44 years later in 1916.Yellowstone, which is mostly in the state of Wyoming, is considered an example of the success of the National Park System.Humans have been present in Yellowstone for more than 11,000 years.

Yellowstone contains beautiful mountains, deep canyons(峡谷), lakes and rivers.The name Yellowstone comes from the river running through the area. At first known as Rock Yellow River, it became known as the Yellowstone River.

Yellowstone is host to many different species of plants. However, the park is most distinctive because of what lies underneath it. It sits on top of an ancient super volcano, known as The Yellowstone Caldera. The caldera is 48 by 72 kilometers. And it remains an active volcano.

It is believed that the last time the volcano erupted was one half million years ago. The area has had three major eruptions in the last three million years.Experts say it may erupt again in another 1,000 to 10,000 years. But each year, there are thousands of earthquakes at Yellowstone. Most are too small to be felt by people visiting the park.

Yellowstone is filled with the beauty of many hot water springs. hot water and gasses are trapped under the earth. they rush to the surface in the form of hot water and steam. Old Faithful is The most famous one . It erupts about every hour or hour and a half. The eruption can last from one and a half minutes up to 5 minutes. The amount of hot water it expels（排出） in that time can be as much as 31,000 liters or more.

In addition to its beauty and wonder, Yellowstone is an animal sanctuary（保护区）. It is home to the largest group of wild animals in the United States. As you travel through the park, you can sometimes see them in their natural habitat and hear their calls .

8 . If you think about World Heritage Sites, you probably think of places connected with ancient art and culture, historical buildings and monuments. And of course, many of these are on the World Heritage List (WHL) (世界遗产名录). But the WHL contains a lot of sites that are not so obvious. Let’s look at a few of them.

Robben Island in South Africa

This island was used through the centuries as a prison, a hospital and a military base. But it’s probably most famous as a maximum-security prison for political prisoners in the twentieth century. Nelson Mandela was one of its most famous residents. The WHL says it represents “the triumph of democracy (民主) and freedom over oppression and racism”.

Borders of France and Spain

This is an area of great natural beauty and the mountains have many interesting geological formations. But it is also an area of small farms. People there still use a type of agriculture (农业) that used to be common in mountainous areas of Europe but that has almost completely disappeared in modern times.

The city of Brasilia, Brazil

Brasilia is a capital city that was created from nothing in 1956. The WHL calls it “a landmark in the history of town planning”. The different areas of the city and the buildings themselves were all designed at the same time carefully. Every part of the city shows the ideas of the planner and architect.

Simien National Park, Ethiopia

Simien National Park was one of the first sites to be listed in 1978. It is one of the highest mountainous areas in Africa, and the WHL calls it “one of the most spectacular landscapes in the world”. It is also important for its wildlife. The population of some rare animals is getting smaller and smaller.

People say it is Canada’s most beautiful city,     1     by mountains and the Pacific Ocean. … Its population is increasing     2    . The coast north of Vancouver has some of the oldest and most beautiful forests in the world. It is so wet there that the trees are extremely tall, some     3     over 90 metres.”

If you live in northeastern China, you expect long, cold winters. People     1    (live) in Harbin don’t just stand the cold, however, they welcome it. The city is home to the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival,    2    is considered to be the largest ice festival in the world. Even with temperatures usually close to zero, thousands of people head to city parks     3    (see) great ice sculptures, many bathed in colored lights.

The festival includes several thousand ice sculptures. Some of these works are the recreations of castles, historic landmarks and famous people, lit up at night in bright colors.
