1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文,续写的词数应为 150 左右

Christmas Day was coming. I was just a kid then, and my big sister told me there was no Santa Claus. I fled to my Grandma because she would be straight with me. l knew Grandma always told me the truth. Grandma was home, and I told her everything. She was ready for me. “No Santa Claus!” She shouted. “Ridiculous! Don’t believe it. That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad, plain mad.”

“Now, put on your coat, and let’s go.”

“Go where, Grandma?” l asked. “Where” turned out to be Kerby’s General Store. the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. “Take this money.” she said, “and buy something for someone who needs it. I’ll wait for you in the car.” Then she turned and walked out of Kerby’s.

l was only eight years old. I’d often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people competing to finish their Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused, holding that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy and who to buy it for. I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker, who was a kid with bad breath and messy hair. He sat right behind me in Mrs. Pollock’s grade-two class.

Bobby Decker didn’t have a coat. l knew that because he never went out for recess(休息) during the winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn’t have a cough, and he didn’t have a coat. I fingered the ten dollar bill with growing excitement. I would buy Bobby Decker a coat! I settled on a red one, which looked really warm, and he would like that.

“Is this a Christmas present for someone?” the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down. “Yes.”

The nice lady smiled at me, put the coat in a bag and wished me a Merry Christmas.

One sunny day in summer, two girls named Gracy and Emma were walking to their homes after school. They were talking about the special celebration activities that were going to take place the next day at their school. They both needed something new to wear for the activity, but they had failed to save enough money to buy anything for that purpose. Both their parents had given them only little money to buy something nice for the celebration the next day. But it surely wasn’t enough for them.

Once again they came by that store near their school and looked at the dress they wanted to buy, and Gracy suddenly saw a wallet near her feet just outside the clothing store. She picked it up and found a bit of money inside it. She turned to Emma and shouted exitedly, “Look, I found a little money in this wallet and I will use it to buy the dress I want! What a lucky day!” Emma took the wallet, opened it and found a name and an address in it.

“It is not a good habit to keep whatever we find, Gracy. Put the money back. There is a name and an address in the wallet. I think it won’t be difficult for us to find its owner. We are going to return it,” said Emma.

Gracy was disappointed and said angrily, “No way! I am not putting it back. I just can’t find the owner anyway. I can buy the dress in the store with the money.”

Emma then forced Gracy to come with her to the address and they arrived at a house. Together, the two of them came up to the door and rang the doorbell.

We landed in South Florida, and we were total strangers. We moved over during the summer vacation, so I didn’t have to deal with school right away. Summer passed by while we unpacked, arranged furniture, found stores we liked, and adapted to the Sunshine State.

School was coming, and I was afraid of it. I was not an adventurous person. Being shy and quiet, I read a lot and did not make friends easily. My head was filled with fears and worries. Would I make friends? Would If it in? Would I survive in this strange new world? Anyway, there I was, attending a new school full of people I didn’t know.

I had a difficult time adapting to the new school. However, I still loved learning and reading. I even loved homework, and I was good at doing my homework. Loving books and reading helped me to get good grades. Teachers loved that about me. Other kids, though, did not. Although I always answered questions in class, I seldom talked with my classmates. I was unpopular. I felt like a total failure and nobody would like me.

The none day, at all boy walked over to me after an English class. He introduced himself and told me he was in the school basketball team. I knew him—he was the star player! “Hey,” he said. “You do really well in English class. And you know, my teammates and I spend much time competing and practicing. The subjects, especially English, really bother us. Do you think you could help us?” “Yes. Oh, definitely yes. I could, and I would,” I replied with surprise. We made the deal with an exchange of smiles.

Spenser’s First Web

Spenser was a small black spider (蜘蛛). Like all of his brothers and sisters, he had eight legs to help him walk and run. He was now big enough to know how to move all his legs together and not trip over them. Spenser was getting bigger every day.

Today Spenser felt nervous. It was time for him to learn to spin (织) a web on his own. He had watched his mother build beautiful, soft webs from the silk she made herself.   His mother’s webs were lovely. They took a long time to make, and in the morning, they were covered with drops of dew that made them look like castles.

“OK, Spenser,” said Ms. Spinney. “It’s time to spin your first web. Let’s begin by making a big plus sign.” Ms. Spinney was Spenser’s teacher. She was old and small but very strong. She quickly used her silk to make a plus sign between two nearby leaves.

Spenser was able to make silk, but he had trouble attaching it to anything. No matter how hard he tried, the threads (丝) slipped away and fell to the ground. Spenser tried hard, but he was getting tired.

“Take a break, Spenser,” said Ms. Spinney. “You’re trying very hard, but I can see that you’re getting frustrated (沮丧的).”

“I’m not frustrated!” said Spenser. “I’m mad that I’m not good at it, and I’m sad that I can’t do it. ”Spenser felt like he was going to cry.

5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

When I graduated from the university, I devoted myself to teaching English in a small village school. One day, a lady called me and told me she was Simon’s mother. She said she wanted to call on me at a right time. Honestly speaking, I had been worried about myself. It made me feel a little fearful of seeing her because I was a new teacher and I gave an honest account of the students’ work. In Simon’s case, the grades were very low. He had never spent much time finishing his schoolwork carefully so that he couldn’t even read his own handwriting, not to mention listening to his teachers in class. But he was a bright student. He discussed adult subjects with nearly adult comprehension. His work in no way reflected his abilities.

So when Simon’s mother entered my office and appeared in front of me with a broad smile on her face, my palms(手心)were sweating. I was completely unprepared for her kisses on both my cheeks. “I came to thank you,” she said, which surprised me beyond speech. “Simon has become a different person. He talks of how he loves me, and he has begun to make friends, and for the first time in his twelve years, he has recently spent an afternoon at a friend’s house. I want to tell you how grateful I am. You have helped my son develop his self-respect,” she continued. Then she kissed me again and left.

I sat, feeling really shocked, for about half an hour, wondering what had just happened. How did I make such a life-changing difference to that boy without even knowing it? At the very moment, I just failed to find out a reasonable explanation for what I was going through.

One day, Barton, who was trying to pay his way through school by selling goods door to door, found that he only had one coin left. He was hungry so he decided to beg for a meal at the next house.

However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman named Whitney opened the door. He changed his mind and asked for a cup of water instead of a meal. Whitney thought Barton looked hungry, so she brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?”

“You don't owe me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught me never to accept pay for a kindness.” He said, “Then I thank you from the bottom of my heart.” As Barton left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but also increased his faith in God and humans. He was about to give up and quit before this point.

Years later Whitney became critically ill. Her husband, who took care of her, could not go out to work, and her poor son had to drop out of school because of being unable to afford his school tuition. He had to pick up coal in a mine near his home. Then he sold all the coal he collected for a few coins to help his parents. Fortunately, their neighbors often brought food and medicine to them, enabling them to survive the hardship of life. Besides, they also raised money for her from a fundraiser on the Internet. People donate money for her in banks, by phone using a credit card and online.

During a vacation one year, my mom and I left our home. We went on a two-week trip to the countryside where my mother had grown up. I was excited because I couldn’t wait to see my grandparents. The last time I had visited them was when I was only three years old. I also wished to go sightseeing, ride elephants, and do many more things there. They must be very wonderful.

With great wishes, we arrived at my grandparents’ house in the countryside. During the first several days, I stayed in their house for fun. But soon, I got bored. I wondered what adventures were in store for me. One morning I said to my mom, “I really want to go outside to play.” My mom replied, “Stephanie, today we’re going to a school. The children there are studying in poor conditions. I decided to use some of my own money to buy some school supplies (日用品) for them.” Hearing that, I was a bit unhappy. “We can go out and play another day. Today we need to spend a little time helping these poor children,” Mom added. I had no choice but to agree.

A few minutes later, my mom drove me to the school. On the way, she said, “We’d first visit the school to know what kind of things these children want most. Then we’ll try to buy them.” I thought to myself: what a vacation I am having! I come here to go sightseeing, not do charity (慈善)work.

When we reached the school, I just couldn’t believe my eyes. There was only one small building, which looked as if it were a hundred years old. There was no playground, no parking lot... It was so small; the school I went to back home was a million times bigger. How unlucky the children here were! We met a teacher in the school, and my mom told him the purpose of our visit. The teacher was very glad and thanked us.

Paragraph1:

Then the teacher guided us into a classroom.

Once, when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus(马戏). Finally, there was only one family between us and the ticket counter.

This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of twelve. You could tell they didn’t have a lot of money.

Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children were well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly talking about the clowns, elephants, and other acts they would see that night in a low voice.

It was clear that they had never been to the circus before. The father was at the head of the pack, and the mother was holding her husband’s hand. The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly responded, “Please let me buy eight children’s tickets and two adult tickets so I can take my family to the circus.”

The ticket lady gave that price. The man’s wife let go of his hand, her head dropped. The father leaned a little closer and asked,“How much did you say?” The ticket lady gave the price again. The man didn’t have enough money.

How could he turn and tell his eight children that he didn’t have enough money to take them to the circus?

Paragraph1:
Seeing what was going on, my dad put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a $20 bill and dropped it on the ground.
