1 . 阅读下面材料,根据所给内容续写两段文字,使之构成一个完整的故事。开头已给出。

Carl lost his job. He tried to find another one but it wasn’t easy. The poor fellow couldn’t pay his bills because he had so little money, and he couldn’t ask anybody to lend him.

Carl spent his days at home. He looked out of the window and watched his neighbor’s house. An old professor lived there alone. Strangely, he never talked to his neighbors. Carl could see into the professor’s house because he never drew the curtain. The rooms were full of antique (古老的) furniture and vases. Carl thought, “Why haven’t I got an antique vase? I could sell it for a lot of money.”

Every day Carl saw the professor. He left at 10 o’clock. He had a dog. Carl often went to the fence and played with it or give it a piece of meat.

One day Carl thought, “I will go into the professor’s house and steal a vase. I will break the window and climb in, the dog is not a problem.”

There was an old gun in the cellar. It had been his great grandfather’s favorite thing a long time before. Carl didn’t want to use the gun but he thought, “Anything could happen.”

He wanted to hide the gun under his coat but it was too long so he cut the end off with a saw.

The next morning he watched the professor leaving home at 10 o’clock. Carl climbed over the fence. The dog ran to him and Carl gave it a big bone. He threw a piece of stone through the window, which broke. It wasn’t high. He could climb into the house easily.

He looked around inside. There were paintings on the walls, small figures and vases on the shelves and the floor. Carl didn’t know much about arts. He couldn’t choose. He reached his hands towards a big vase when he heard a noise. The front door opened and someone entered the house.

2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

What my father wore embarrassed me! I wanted him to dress like a doctor or lawyer, but he always dressed like my father, getting up before dawn every day to make breakfast for my mother and me.

We lived in South Texas, where my father worked as a repairman. He often wore a pair of jeans and a shirt, keeping his pencils, glasses and wrenches (扳手) in his breast pocket. His boots were those with steel toes that made them difficult to pull off his feet, which I sometimes helped him with when he returned from repairing cars — his job that also shamed me.

I blamed the way he dressed. I felt that my classmates laughed at me because they’d seen him mowing lawns (修剪草坪) in cut-off jeans and black boots. My classmates’ families paid men to beautify their lawns, while their fathers travelled in the bay wearing lemon-yellow sweaters and expensive shoes.

He preferred clothes that allowed him the freedom to move under cars. So even when taking part in a school trip with me, he was dressed in his repairman’s suit. On the school bus to the campsite, all students on the bus happily chatted with their parents except me, who lowered the head, avoiding spotting my classmates’ mocking glance (讥笑的眼光) or hearing their jokes, which I thought was about nothing else but what my father wore.

I regretted telling my parents the school trip, and I was very angry why my mother had no spare time while my father happened to have a vacation. But my father failed to read my mind. He was very happy, whistling a tune along the way.

Though my father didn’t sense my bad mood, the school bus seemed as sad as I was. It drove more and more slowly and finally it stopped on the roadside. The driver got out to check the bus but found nothing wrong. Students and parents on the bus began to whisper about what was happening, worried that the delay might spoil the journey.

4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Nowadays people look on YouTube, watch the World Cup and see that I am now a superstar, but they don’t know the journey. They don’t know about my living room walls turning from white to black. They don’t know about my father working under a little roof. They don’t know about my mother riding an old yellow bicycle through the rain and the cold and several dangerous areas every day when I was a little boy.

Initially, the walls of our house were supposed to be white. But I never remember them being white. At first, they were grey, then turning black. My father was a coal worker. He made charcoal in our house. Have you ever seen charcoal being made? The little bags you buy in the store for barbeque, they come from somewhere, and honestly, it’s a very dirty business.

I remember one day I was bagging up the charcoal with my dad, and it was really cold and raining. All we had was the tiny roof over our heads. After a few hours, I got to go to school, where it was warm. My dad stayed out there working, all day. If he didn’t sell that day, maybe we wouldn’t have enough to eat.

I thought to myself: At some point, everything is going to change. For this, I owe football everything.

I started football early. I played so much football that every two months, my boots would break apart. When I was seven, I must have been pretty good, because I scored 64 goals for my neighborhood team.

That year, my dad got a call from a coach saying they wanted me to play there. My dad asked, “Oh, it’s too far away. Nine kilometers. How will we get him there?” My mom said, “No, no, no! Don’t worry, I’ll take him!”

A teacher in New York decided to honor each of her seniors in high school by telling them the difference they each made. First she told them how the student made a difference to her and the class. Then she presented each of them with a blue ribbon (勋带) imprinted with gold letters reading, “Who I Am Makes a Difference.”

Afterwards the teacher decided to do a class project to see what kind of impact recognition would have on a community. She gave each of the students three more ribbons and instructed them to go out and spread this acknowledgment ceremony. Then they were to follow up on the results and report back to the class in about a week.

One of the boys in the class, went to a junior executive in a nearby company and honored him for helping him with his career planning. He gave him a blue ribbon and put it on his shirt.   Then he gave him two extra ribbons, saying, “We’re doing a class project on recognition. we’d like you to go out to find somebody to honor, give them a blue ribbon, then give them the extra blue ribbon, so they can acknowledge a third person to keep this acknowledgment ceremony going. Then please report back to me and tell me what has happened.”

Later that day the junior executive went to see his boss. He told the boss that he deeply admired him for being a creative genius. The boss seemed very surprised. The junior executive asked him if he would accept the gift of the blue ribbon and give him permission to put it on him. His surprised boss said, “Well, sure.” As he gave him the last extra ribbon, he said, “Would you do me a favor? Would you take this extra ribbon and pass it on by honoring somebody else? The young boy who first gave me the ribbons is doing a project in school and we want to keep this recognition ceremony going and find out how it affects people.”

6 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Mrs. Riley and I always shout at each other. I shout because she can’t hear me, and she shouts because she can’t hear herself. “What do you need from the store?” I’ll yell. “Bananas,” she’ll yell back.

You don’t realize what a funny word bananas is until you hear it shouted by an eighty-year-old woman. I work for Mrs. Riley. I buy groceries for her at the supermarket on Nostrand Avenue, and sometimes I dust and sweep her apartment. The best part, though, is taking care of Sam. Sam is Mrs. Riley’s canary(金丝雀). He’s bright yellow, and he sings all the time. That’s one thing about canaries. They’re always cheerful. That’s what I’m saving my money for. I’m going to buy a canary. And besides the canary, I have to get a cage and swings and toys and food.

“Do you have enough money yet, girl?” Mrs. Riley always shouts at me. “Not yet,” I shout back. “Soon.” And she always calls me girl, not Carla. Sometimes I think she doesn’t remember my name.

Anyway, one day I ran upstairs to Mrs. Riley’s. She leaves the door unlocked when she knows I’m coming. She wasn’t in her usual place by the window. She was in bed. “Are you sick?” I shouted. “Yes, girl. You can’t work for me anymore,”Mrs. Riley said. She coughed. “I have to take medicine, and it costs a lot. I can’t pay you.”

I felt sick to my stomach. How would I find another job? I went over and stuck my finger in Sam’s cage. He hopped on his swing and chirped hello. Then I turned and left.

That night at dinner I couldn’t eat. “You’ll find another job,” Mom said, sitting back in her chair. “I feel sorry for her, Carla. She’s so alone up there.” Then Mom leaned over and gave me a hug. “I’m glad we have each other,” she said. Mom always makes me feel better. I was able to eat after all.

7 . 请认真阅读以下故事并根据给出的末段首句完成整个段落,注意故事的完整性。

Last Saturday, Jordon was taking a walk in the park near his home when he noticed a woman with a boy of about seven years old. When Jordon passed them, he heard the woman yell, “How stupid you are! You are good at nothing. ”Jordon stopped and looked at the little boy. The boy said nothing. He just stood there, looking upset.

Jordon was reminded of his English teacher Mrs Mary in middle school. He was often told that he was good at nothing. But one day it all changed. One day, in an English writing class, Mrs Mary asked them to read a novel. They were asked to write a new chapter of the novel after they finished reading the book. A few days later, Jordon handed in his story. But the next day to his surprise, the comment (评价) “well done” from Mrs Mary came into view the moment he turned to the page where the story was written. When Jordon read that, he almost burst into tears. That day after he returned home, he wrote a short story and gave it to Mrs Mary the next morning. And again he was praised.

Jordon became very interested in writing. He often wrote short stories and asked Mrs Mary to read them and correct them for him. Mrs Mary always corrected them for him and gave him good advice to improve them. One year later, he was no longer that boy who lacked self-confidence. He gained his confidence and was hopeful about his future. Several years after graduating from college, he had his first book published and became famous as a writer in his country. And he owed his success to Mrs Mary's encouragement. Without her encouragement, his life might be very different now.

Experiences at a Sports Meeting I used to be very active in sports and games when I was in primary school. 1won the B Division long jump and was a decent sprinter(短跑运动员). As a result, I was chosen to represent the school in the long jump and relay events at the District Sports Meeting, A little too proud, I was so sure I would win a medal that I didn’t make enough preparations.

The Meeting lasted two days. I had no events scheduled for the first day. So I kept myself busy by watching the others compete.

The next day, I was getting ready for my events. The long jump was scheduled for the early afternoon, followed by the 8×50 meters relay later in the afternoon. I thought I was a pretty good jumper, but as the competition began, I realized I was vastly outclassed. My jump was 3. 65 meters which was not bad for me. Then there was a boy nicknamed the typhoon, who jumped over 4 meters! That was quite an accomplishment for a ten-year-old boy. We finished our jumps, and I came in the fourth place, just missing out on a medal, which I was eagerly longing for.

That was disappointing, but I reminded myself that we still had a chance in the8×50 meters relay, for which I was assigned to run the fifth leg. The race time arrived. We filed into our assigned spots and prepared for the race. After a nervous minute or so, I heard the starter’s gun go off. When the first runners took off, I watched holding my breath as my team runners kept up with the others. I saw the baton(接力棒)passed from one runner to another. As they got closer, I realized we were at least in the second place. My turn arrived. I took the baton cleanly and began my run. The air rushed past me as I moved closer to the next runner.

10 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I had just poured my second cup of tea that morning and sat down to read the paper. From somewhere, an inner voice said, “Go see Jeff and bring him the chair to repair. Go right now.” it was such a strong need that I hurriedly dressed and carried a dinning-room chair to his door.  Jeff was a neighbor who had lost his wife a while back, and he sometimes did minor repairs for me because he enjoyed working with his hands.

I knocked on his door and waited a while. I was about to walk away when he answered. He looked like he was far away in his thoughts. I felt awkward about upsetting him so early. I greeted him and then asked if he could repair my chair. He invited me inside. We sat in his living room. He looked very sad and not his usual self. He said he had had a stroke recently, and while he was home now, he still needed to attend physical treatment. He had to build his strength back up. I apologized for the chair and told him I would just bring it back home. He said to leave it.

We talked for a while. He said that, before I arrived, he was seriously sad. So, my visit stopped his darkness. I listened to how hard it had been since his wife passed and how much worse it was now since the stroke. The longer we talked, the more I saw his mood lighten.

After I left his home, I went to the supermarket and gathered ingredients. I made him a hot meal I thought he would like. Carefully, I cut up vegetables and prepared stew (炖菜) for him. I believe it was the best stew I ever made. I made homemade biscuits and prepared fresh fruit for dessert. I realize there might have been healthier food, but I thought a hot meal would lift his spirits. I dropped it off for him. He was glad that someone cared. Emotionally, he seemed in a better place.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为100左右;
2. 续写一段,开头语已为你写好。

About a week later, he knocked on my door.
