I enjoy learning English but can remember individual words easy. However, when it comes to reading comprehension, it’s really the challenge. Last weekend, I tried to read a storybook write in English to improve my reading. At first, I refer to the dictionary every time I came across a new word, which I found it not very helpful. I often felt puzzling about what I had read. Then I tried to finish a chapter completely with looking up the new words. What surprised me was I could understand the story merely from the context. I hope I will make great progresses in English in this way.

I used to follow other people’s methods of learn English, but I don’t get good grades. But I decided to combine my hobbies and to learning English. Now I often watch British dramas and listen to English songs what are popular over and over again. After repeatedly listening and watching, I learn new words, authentic expression and Western thinking patterns. I also read few foreign books like the Harry Potter series and listen to short audio courses and stories. Those things allows me to improve your English ability, not just English scores.

Many people have given us help as we grow up. Among those have helped me, my mother is the one I am the most thankful to her.
When I was in Grade 7, I had some difficulty learn English. I found it hardly to remember new words. So I have a hard time learning English. I couldn’t finish my English homeworks on time. Saw my problem, my mum always played games with me to help me remember new words. She even watched some English cartoons with me, that made me interested in English.
That is how I improved my English with my mother’s help five years before. I think I should owe my success for my mother’s help.

When I firstly learned to write in English , I run into much difficulty. The main problem was which I always thought in Chinese and tried translate everything into English. My teacher advised me to keep a diary. But I followed her advices and put down 100 words or so each day. Soon I began to enjoy talk to myself on paper as I was learning to express me in simple English. One day I wrote a little story and showed it to my teacher. She liked it very much and read it to the class. All said the story was a well one. Their words were an great encouragement to me.

I went to England for a trip. I arrived London on the 9th , December. But I didn’t know a way to my hotel. So I asked for a man. I talked in English very carefully and clearly. But the man couldn’t understand. I repeated my question several time and at last he understood. He answered me but he spoke either slowly nor clearly. I could not understand her words. Not only can interest drive us to learn happy but also make our learning efficient. Take me as an example. I used to be weak English. One day in Senior Grade 1, I happen to see an English movie named Speed. It was such interesting that I watched it again and again. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel English bored and difficult any more. From then on, I began to watch English movies but read English novels every week. Naturally, I made a rapid progress in my English. Gradual, my English became the best in my class. Now, when it comes to English, I always feel confident about me.
In a word, whoever is interested in something are sure to do it well.

Last summer vacation I travelled to America and I met a lot of foreigner. I found a tour guide which spoke both English and Chinese because of I was not confident with my English. Interesting, some native English speakers joined me in the trip. When we are in the Coronado Canyon, we lost contact with our guide but everyone was worried. All of sudden, my phone rang and it was from the guide, said that he would wait for us at the gate of the Canyon. He asked I to inform the other members. I collected my courage to tell them in English, and then I was praising by them. I felt more confident afterwards.

I’m glad to accept your letter ask for my advice on how to learn Chinese well. My suggestions is as follows.
First, it was important to take a Chinese course, as you’ll be able to learn from the teachers and practice with your fellow students. Then, you’d better watch the TV and read books, newspaper and magazines in Chinese.
Besides, it is a good idea to listen Chinese songs, because by doing so you’ll learn and remember Chinese words more easy. You can make much Chinese friends. They will tell you a lot about China and help you learn Chinese.
