3 . A job building things with Lego bricks sounds like a dream. However, it is real for Sean Kenney. He turned his hobby into a job.
For more than 15 years, Kenney has made masterpieces using Lego bricks. His art has been shown at museums and zoos around the world.
His latest work, “Nature Connects: Art with Lego Bricks" is one of his biggest projects. It is on tour across the United States. It is at the San Antonio Zoo in Texas, the Denver Zoo in Colorado and Flamingo Gardens in Davie, Florida.
The traveling show began in 2012. It shows life-size and larger-than-life copies of plants and animals.
Like many kids, Kenney played with Legos. As an adult, he worked as a designer, often using Lego bricks in his work. Living in New York City, he created models of buildings there. Then a botanical garden in Iowa asked him to build models of its plants. He began to make the natural world his focus. His work began touring to other places. It was so popular that zoos hired him to make models of their animals.
Kenney has made more than 150 animals out of Lego blocks. They include lions, polar bears, buffalo, butterflies and ducks. Making them lifelike is not easy. The biggest challenge is getting the softness of an animal's looks and getting the face right, he said. "To me, that's one of the most fun things to overcome. When you've done it, you’ve really done it. You step back and are proud of it."
Kenney remembers a woman at one of his shows turned to see his art of a snow leopard crouching(蹲) down. She jumped back, thinking it was alive."That's why the challenge is worth it,” he said.
Kenney works with a group of artists. They work in teams to create each piece. Most start out as sketches(草图) on paper, Then they plan the shape and size of the animal.
One sculpture can take thousands of bricks and months of work to complete. Builders glue(粘合) every brick together as if they are making a brick wall. A lion took 474 hours and 48, 248 bricks to build. Kenney said that he uses only Legos that are sold to the public. He does not use any special bricks. "I use the same ones that children play with," he said.
Audiences value Kenney's pieces for their craftsmanship. "His work is amazing and so powerful when you see it in person," one of them said.

7 . Technology has revolutionized (使革命化) the way we work in many ways. One of the most significant changes has been the shift towards remote and flexible work. With the rise of internet and cloud-based software, workers are no longer tied to a physical office and can work from anywhere with an internet connection. This has allowed for greater flexibility and work-life balance, as well as reduced commuting (通勤) time and costs.
Another major change is the increasing use of automation and artificial intelligence in the workplace. This has the potential to increase efficiency and productivity, as well as reduce the need for certain types of work. However, it also raises concerns about job displacement and the need for workers to adapt to new technologies.
Finally, technology has greatly expanded the types of jobs available. With the rise of the gig (临时工) economy and freelance (自由职业者) work, workers can now find opportunities in areas such as graphic design (平面设计), copywriting (文案撰写), and social media management. This has created opportunities for individuals to work in areas that were previously inaccessible or did not exist.

Hard skills are like your technology: anyone can acquire them through formal education, training programs, and concentrated effort, and they are necessary. Without them you will not be able to operate in the workplace. Soft skills are your unique selling point.

10 . If the idea of getting paid a decent monthly wage to do nothing for the rest of your life sounds appealing, you may be interested in this Swedish experimental art project that plans to hire a very lucky person for a responsibility-free job with just one very simple requirement.
The government in Gothenburg, Sweden will select one very lucky applicant to show up at a train station currently under construction in the city every day and punch a time clock to let everyone know that the useless employee shows up at work that day. After that, the person is free to do anything they want, or nothing at all, just as long as they return to the station to clock out when their shift is over.
You might be wondering what a job that basically only requires you to clock in and clock out every day pays. Well, the selected candidate will earn a monthly salary of about $2,320, plus annual raises, benefits, vacation time and a guaranteed pension fund.
In 2017, the local government announced an international competition for artists willing to contribute ideas for the design of Gothenbug’s Korsvagen train station, offering a prize of 7 million Swedish krona to the winner.
Only instead of coming up with actual design ideas, Swedish artists Simon Goldin and Jakob Senneby suggested that the prize money be used to pay one worker’s salary and give them absolutely nothing to do all day. And that’s how their “Eternal Employment” project began.
The jury apparently loved the artists’ original idea as their project was announced as the winner in October last year. There was an uproar in Sweden about it, with politicians from all sides accusing them of wasting taxpayers’ money. Others just called the idea stupid and worthless, which the artists fully agree with. They acknowledge that paying someone to show up at a train station two times a day just to punch a time clock is unproductive and pointless, but that’s the whole idea.
If you’re already thinking “where do I sign up?” I have some bad news for you. Because Korsvagen train station is still under construction, the position will only become available in 2026, after the station is inaugurated. The artists will start taking in applications a year earlier.
