Plants and trees play a huge part in nature. This is why Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado and his wife Lelia Deluiz Wanic Salgado planted 2.7 million trees in an effort     1     (bring)back a thick forest.

The famous photographer     2     (return)to his hometown in Brazil after covering an important event in Rwanda back in1994. Sebastiao was greatly influenced by it. So he decided to take     3     break from his job and went back to Brazil. However, he became much     4     (sad) when he realized that the mass destruction didn’t only happen between people-the plants were also     5     (serious) damaged by humans. The once green forest in Sebastiao’s hometown was now a bare land.

As he was about to lose hope, his wife came up with an idea     6     changed their lives. She said they could bring the forest back to life by     7     (plant) trees.So, the couple set up a small organization named Instituto Terra.     8     the help of their members, they were able to plant 4 million saplings in the area. Out of these saplings, 2.7 million of     9     (they) grew into trees.

Recent report shows that there are 172 kinds of birds in the forest. This encouraging story has moved many people as it teaches them the     10     (important) of plants and trees.

Thomas was the first person to     1     I spoke after arriving in Washington D. C. I got off the bus, and walked out and there he was,     2     (sit) by a fountain in the sun. As I got much     3     (close), I could see he was     4     pain and noticed the walking frame next to him. I sat down and we started talking. I asked Thomas what     5     was like here being homeless. He     6     (response), “It’s been ten years now. When I was in the army, there was no way I could have pictured being here.” Thomas had served in Vietnam for four years, but he didn’t want to speak much about that. After a short while, I told him what I did and that I’d love to give him a haircut.     7     (instant) he said, “What, right here? Why not! I am not moving, though. I can’t move very well at all anymore.”

He wasn’t kidding. I put my gown (长袍) around him right there where he was lying and started cutting. I loved every minute of this. The sun     8     (keep) shining as Thomas told me about his early life growing up in West Virginia. With the mirror     9     (hand) to him in the end, he stared at his clear     10     (reflect) for a really long time, then looked up at me and said, “I want to know why you did that for me.” I told him the truth—I love hearing his story. Fulfillment is different for everyone, but for me, connecting with others is what makes me tick.

Enlightenment(启示)can show up in some pretty strange ways. The Buddha found it under a Boddhi tree and Nelson Mandela in prison. It doesn’t matter where and how it happens. What matters is that it does happen. Little did I know,     1    (I) would arrive in the form of a hard-shelled animal trying to cross the road—a turtle. But this wasn’t just any turtle; this was the world’s most optimistic one. He determined to cross twenty feet of tar(柏油)road as cars drove past quickly.

I thought    2    crazy to cross the road that way, the little one couldn’t    3    (realize) the danger, though. But today was his lucky day. My wife’s quick driving reflexes(反应)not only ensured that “turtle soup” would not be for dinner that night,     4     her act of kindness would eventually become the foundation for everything I teach today. As unusual as this sounds, the simple act of pulling over our car, removing this little turtle from harm’s way, and placing him back into the wild, caused something extraordinary    5    (happen) inside of me.

As I stood there holding this tiny creature in my hands, a wave of pure delight came over me. It was that warm, teary-eyed feeling    6    was felt during life’s greatest moments, like falling in love or the birth of a child. I honestly felt as if my heart was completely opening up as everything stood still around me.

In no way would I have described it as “enlightenment”, but there was no doubt about it—helping this little turtle just felt so good!

But why? After all, it’s just a turtle, right? And then it hit me. I finally realized what was happening. If it    7     (not be) for the turtle, I wouldn’t have got the feeling. At that point, a flood of    8    (inspire) thoughts ran through me. I walked back to the car, opened my journal and wrote eight words that would later prove to be life changing for me: “kindness creates happiness and live a life of kindness”.

It was the answer I    9    (look) for for so long. The secret    10    inner peace and lasting happiness was kindness.

Loving yourself means loving everything in you，your height，your voice，your eyes，your hair，even       1    (include) the mistakes that you have made.    2       we know，no one is perfect.Always ask yourself，“Am I getting unhappy just because of the mistakes I made？” or “Do I have the courage to correct my mistakes？”       3       the answer is yes or no，having a positive attitude is the most important.Bravely face the mistakes that       4    (make) yesterday and try your best to encourage yourself to learn     5       them.They might be your best teachers.When correcting the mistakes and making your own     6     (decide)，you will find that you are getting     7     (strong) and more optimistic with each day passing.Don't expect everybody to like you.    8       is still OK if someone doesn't like you.Being     9       you are is the best way to show your love for yourself.
