A rich woman went on a trip in Thailand, and she took her pet dog with her. One day the dog started running after butterflies and before long he discovered that he was not able to find his way back. When wandering about ,he noticed a tiger heading quickly to him with the obvious desire of having lunch.
The dog thought,"God,I'm in deep trouble now.”
Then he noticed some bones on the ground nearby, and at once stopped to eat the bones with his back to the tiger.
Just as the tiger was about to jump, the dog said to himself loudly,"Hey,that was one delicious tiger. I wonder if there are any more around here?” Hearing this, the tiger stopped jumping, and ran away into the trees.
“Oh,” said the tiger,“That was dangerous. That dog nearly caught and ate me. ”
At the same time,a monkey who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, thought maybe he could make good use of this chance and trade it for protection from(免遭···的伤害)the tiger.
So,off the monkey went. He soon caught up with the tiger, and told the tiger the truth.
The tiger was very angry at being made a fool of and said, “Here monkey, stay on my back and see what's going to happen to that dog. "
When the dog saw the tiger coming again with the monkey on its back,he thought,"What am I going to do now?”
But instead of running, the dog sat down pretending he hadn't seen them yet.
Just when the monkey and the tiger got close enough to hear, the dog said,"Where's that monkey? I can not trust him any longer. I sent him off half an hour ago to bring me another tiger as my supper, and he's still not back!”

I was nine years old when she entered our home in the countryside of Virginia. My father introduced me to her with these words: “I would like you to meet the fellow who is well known for being the worst boy in this county and will probably start throwing rocks at you no later than tomorrow morning.”
My stepmother walked over to me, raised my head slightly upward, and looked at me right in the eye. Then she looked at my father and replied, “You are wrong. This is not the worst boy at all, but the smartest one who hasn’t yet found a way to give out his enthusiasm.”
That statement began a friendship between us. No one had ever called me smart, My family and neighbors had built me up in my mind as a bad boy. My stepmother changed all that.
She changed many things. She persuaded my father to go to a dental school, from which he graduated with honors. She moved our family into the county seat, where my father’s career could be more successful and my brother and I could be better educated.
When I turned fourteen, she bought me a secondhand typewriter and told me that she believed that I could become a writer. I knew her enthusiasm, and I saw how it had already improved our lives. I accepted her belief and began to write for local newspapers and finally reached the goal she set for me. I wasn’t the only beneficiary. My father became the wealthiest man in town. Holets values his privacy and didn’t do it for the attention. He did it just because he knew it was the right thing to do.
On Sept. 23, Holets responded to a call about a possible theft from a convenience store in Albuquerque. By the time he arrived, the thief was no longer there, but Holets spotted a woman in a grassy area behind the store about to inject a needle into her companion’s arm. The woman, Crystal Champ, was eight months pregnant.
After a short conversation, he learned Champ longed for her child to go to a good family. Holets offered to do just that.
When Sergeant Jim Edison learned what Holets did, he was floored. In his 10 years as a police officer, he has seen many “heroic acts” but none like what Holets did, Edison said.
Edison awarded Holets for his outstanding service for the city, but felt that wasn’t enough. It’s his job to reward his officers and encourage them to do the right thing, so Edison signed Holets up to do an interview for CNN’s “Beyond the Call of Duty”series without telling him.
“Every day Edison calls me to ask for forgiveness.” Holets said laughing, “And I keep assuring him that we're fine. We didn’t quite realize it would get this response, and neither did he. But we all realize it’s a really good thing, and some really good things can come of it.”
One of Holets’s conditions when he agreed to CNN’s interview was that his superiors would not set up a GoFundMe page for his family. “We don’t want anybody to say we've used this occasion to enrich ourselves,” Holets said. He instead urges those who want to offer support to donate to a local drug recovery center or adoption organization.

When he came back, his father gave him two bright, new silver dollars. His face lighted up as he took them. He had wished for a long time to buy some petty books that he had seen at the bookstore.
He left the house with a light heart, expecting to buy the books. As he ran down the street, he saw a poor family. “I wish you a happy New Year.” said Edward, as he was happily passing on. The man shook his head. “You are not from this country.” said Edward. The man again shook his head, for he could not understand or speak his language. But he pointed to his mouth, and to the children shaking with cold, as if (好像) to say, “These little ones have had nothing to eat for a long time.” Edward quickly understood that these poor people were in trouble. Society tells men to hide their feelings and expects them to be aggressive, so many men lose their friendship when growing up. The good news is that those skills can be recovered!
There are a lot of experts who can help, and here’s what they recommend:
1.Accept your own desire and normalize it for the people in your life. Way, an expert, recommends sharing articles about masculinity and friendship so that you can start these conversations! Concentrate on them and don’t forget you have the entire Internet at your fingertips, friend!
2. Model vulnerability. Say the thing that frightens or worries you, like “I’m afraid nobody will go to my party,”or”I miss my grandma every day.” Doing so will make it easier for other people to follow your lead. We are all on the elevator to a society where emotional availability is normalized, and I want you to press “door open”.
3. Ask more questions. People sometimes feel they might be prying (爱打听的) if they ask someone about themselves—especially when their friend is sharing something tough. But if you get curious in moments of vulnerability you will open the door to all kinds of growth in your relationship. Take the opportunity to really see your friend and show them they matter by following up.
4. Get close with the children in your life. Way’s research says that the top priority that helps children (especially boys) grow up to have enriching friendships is to be close with an adult relative who was not afraid to express emotions. So, if you are a father, stepfather,or thinking about becoming one, or if you have nieces or nephews, take the opportunity to be close to them and help them grow up to be good friends, too.
1. What is the common concept of being a man?A.To have no friends at all. |
B.To maintain friendships. |
C.Not to show true feelings. |
D.Not to hurt others aggressively. |
A.A man should show his vulnerability in front of his fellows. |

Visitors to Waikiki Beach may do a double-take at the four-legged surfer boarding on shore, but the regulars aren’t amazed at all. They know the eight-year-old dog is Bugsy, a local legend, whose owner, David Yew, taught the dog to surf.
Yew, 39, got the idea while he and Bugsy were out walking on the beach and came upon a statue of a surfer. Yew put the dog down on the surfboard to take a photo, and the scene looked so natural that Yew was inspired to take the next step. Soon enough, the two were surfing together. Bugsy ran right to the front of the board with his paws.
The two ride an 11-foot, rubber-padded longboard. He loves the water and dog-paddles. However, Bugsy wasn’t always so active. Two days after Yew, a doctor of emergency medicine, adopted the 12-week-old puppy from shelter, Bugsy came down with cough, which progressed to pneumonia(肺炎). Yew rushed the dog to the ICU of a vet hospital where he stayed until Yew could no longer afford to keep him there. Bugsy needed further treatment, so Yew built his own ICU in his apartment. He covered an empty fish tank with plastic to use it for treatments. Finally, Bugsy pulled through.
Since then, the doctor and the dog have been inseparable. "Saving Bugsy’s life created unconditional trust between us,” Yew says. “He knows I’ll take care of him no matter what.” That may be what fuels Bugsy’s spirit. The pair surf together every week and have shared other adventures, including skydiving.
