Strawberries look nice, but a light pressure can make them out of shape. Nowadays there are many young people who are just like strawberries. They easily break down when they face difficulties. They don’t know what to do when they are in trouble. They have a common name—strawberry kids.
Why are many students so easy to break down? Parents and schools are a main reason. Some parents do almost everything for them in their daily life, while schools care more about their grades instead of developing their personality (个性). Liu Yue, 13, is from Fujian. His mom hardly criticizes (批评) him and he always feels good about himself. When a teacher criticized him strictly, he felt surprised and sad. He began to doubt his ability.
Students should do something to make themselves mentally strong. An expert said, “When you are in trouble, don’t ask for help too quickly. You should try to deal with the problems first by yourself. I also advise you to take an active part in sports and social activities. That can make you mentally strong.”
Growing up is not just a happy process. Pains also go along with it. The most important thing is to face the pains bravely and learn from them.

Of course kids should do chores! Parents are busier than some kids think they are. They have to work all day and have too many things to do at home. If kids do chores, it can help a parent have one less thing to do during their day. And chores can develop responsibility as well as achieve some trust from their parents. Chores can help the kid be responsible because he or she can learn how to take care of their own house.
Studies showed that parents would trust their kids more if they did their chores without being asked and pushed. They'll begin to believe in their kids and think the kids can control themselves in the spare time. So chores are a great way to achieve trust and responsibility.
However, some people hold different opinions. Parents often use the excuse, “I am tired from work.” While parents do not realize that school is no cakewalk(轻松的事)and a child does not want to do chores right after school. School is like work. You have to work hard most of the time. Chores are the things that children avoid when coming home from school.
And chores are not a good thing. Doing chores is not going to help children understand what the future will be like. A child should only have to take care of themselves: Clean their own rooms, wash their own clothes, and wash their own dishes. Parents use kids to do the things that they are too lazy to do. Again, I believe that children should do chores that help them learn how to live on their own. But doing chores for other people who are capable(能胜任的)of doing it by themselves is irrelevant(无关紧要的).

At the same time, they leave their small kids at home and they let their parents bring up their own children instead of them. These children are called leftover children. Most parents of these children consider that it is the most important task to feed their children well and to let them grow up healthily and safely.
However, leftover children have become a heavy topic nowadays. On the one hand, most leftover children live with their grandparents. Lacking in the knowledge of how to educate children, they only provide the basic needs for the children, some of their grandparents tend to spoil (宠惯) them. On the other hand, psychological (心理的) help often is needed for leftover children to pay attention to. Feeling lonely, they are more likely to form the habit of keeping silent or staying alone because they are short of their parents’ love. What’s more, they are easy to make some mistakes even do something against the laws, because they’re short of their families’ care.
How to deal with the problem? Not only children’s parents but also our society and our government should take efficient measures to deal with it. Firstly, government should push forward the development of our economy, balancing economy in different areas. Secondly, our society can set up a parents school for these children on holidays and organize “hand-in-hand” activity to call on more people to help them. Thirdly, parents should often connect with their children by talking face to face or mobile phone, and it is the most important. Because it is very helpful for children to be loved and concerned, they also can have a simple and good life.

The researchers did a study at a secondary school in Bulgaria over nine years. The results showed that when teenagers had math classes earlier in the day, they scored on average (平均) 7 percent higher in tests than when taught in the afternoon. Lower-ability students did worst when they were studying math in the afternoon.
In history, students taught in the afternoon scored on average 6 percent higher than when they were taught in the morning. However, it doesn’t work for other subjects such as languages or geography.
Velichka Dimitrova, leader of the study, said the findings show that we do better at different times of the day.
“In the morning, our brains are better and fresher, so we are better at doing something that repeats a lot like problem solving, where we require more speed and attention,” Dimitrova told The Telegraph.
“In the afternoon, it seems that this process (过程) slows down. On the other hand, history is better suitable for the afternoon, when we are more creative and open to discussion,” she said.
Subjects such as foreign languages require both memory and repetition (重复), and they also need people to be creative. This is perhaps why the time of day has no influence on learning.
Time-of-day effects such as those are believed to be connected to the body clock. This is the system in our bodies that controls when we need to sleep. Some schools in the US and UK have tried out later school starting times for teenagers, whose body clocks change as they grow into adults.
Dimitrova believes schools should take this chance to improve students’ performance just by changing their timetables.

What kind of job would you like to do in the future? Students from Dalton Junior High School in the US state of Georgia recently took a skills test. It gives students advice for their future jobs.
Gracison Saylors, a seven-grader, feels ever more sure of her life goal: becoming a marine biologist(海洋生物学家). “It’s always been my dream job,” she said. Saylors said the test showed her what she already knew about herself. “I like to work with people and explore (探索) deeper on what is happening”, and that fits marine biology.
The test told Laney Peterfreund that she “likes finding specific(具体的) answers to problems”. This matches her choice of future study. “I want to learn engineering in high school, so I’ll know if I really enjoy it before college,” she said. “A lot of people go to college not knowing what they want to do, and that’s a big reason the drop out.”
Based on his strengths (优势) and interests, Mario Gomez plans to study architecture(建筑). “I really like building and thinking,” Mario said, for Gomez, planning your future in junior high school “puts you ahead of the game”. He was born in Yunnan Province in 1371 and his parents named him Ma Sanbao. Eleven years later, a rich young man called Zhu Di caught him. Over time the rich man saw that Zheng He was very clever and strong and they became close friends. In 1403 Zhu Di became the King of China and he asked Zheng He to join his new government and gave him a new name—Zheng He.
The King wanted to learn more about the world and show other countries his power. He ordered people to build many new ships and made Zheng He their leader. Between 1405 and 1433, Zheng He travelled to different parts of the world. He certainly travelled to India, Africa and the Middle East. A few people think his ships may have even reached South America and Australia. Each trip lasted between two and four years and it is believed he sailed more than 50,000 kms during the years of his travels. With 28,000 men and over 300 ships, such as boats for food, water and even horses, Zheng He’s fleet (船队) was much smaller than Europeans’ for over 500 years.
On these trips he brought with him many Chinese goods like silk and medicine to give to foreign kings or to sell for local goods. He returned from each trip with boats filled with expensive things such as gold and jewellery, foreign guests and strange animals like a giraffe. It is a pity that we may never learn everything about Zheng He’s travels. After he died in 1433, the new king, who believed these trips were unlucky and too expensive, ordered them to stop the travels and he burned almost all the books about Zheng He’s travels. It is only in the last 50 years that historians have begun to carefully study the adventures of the great Zheng He.
