1 . Cheng Lin is a bus driver. He has driven from Luotian to Wuqiao Nan Station in Chongqing for many years. There are many left-behind children along the route (路线)—they go to school in the city on Sundays and come back to the village on Fridays. Mr. Cheng knows the importance of his role on their way to and from school, so he pays a lot of attention to them.
A boy who is in Grade 9, goes to school by himself. He lives with his grandmother because his parents work in another city and seldom come back. Mr. Cheng cares about him a lot. Cheng and the boy have developed a secret code. If the boy needs to take the bus, and the driver notices a schoolbag hanging outside the door of an old house, he will stop and honk (按喇叭). Soon, the boy rushes outside, carries the schoolbag and gets on the bus.
The boy’s parents were deeply moved by the driver’s kindness. “We are glad to see someone is taking care of our child. We are very thankful to Mr. Cheng,” said the father.
Mr. Cheng’s story is well-known and he is praised as a good driver. He says it’s just a little thing and that he will continue doing it.

7 . Every year in China, March is the month for remembering Lei Feng by helping others. What did you do this year?
Ye Meina, a middle school student in Harbin, joined a teen volunteer group last year. The group did helpful things like cleaning the streets, taking care of the old and the disabled and helping to direct traffic. The first thing Ye did was to clean snow from the streets after a heavy snow. “ Helping others really makes me happy,” Ye said.
There were about 100 middle school students in Ye’s group. They did all kinds of things to help others.
Ye Jing, another middle school student has been looking after a disabled woman for two years. She started that before she joined the group. She did housework for the woman twice a month.
People in China remember the spirit of Lei Feng, but what is it? Do you have to join a group to be a part of it? Sun Maofang has a good answer. Sun who lives in Beiiing, is one of China’s famous Lei Feng Models and he has been helping others for forty years.
“Always being ready to care for others is the true spirit of Lei Feng. It is never out of date.” Sun said.
Sun also said we could even learn from Lei Feng by doing small things. “For example, love your parents and teachers, try to help your desk mate with his studies if you can.”
