Suppose you find a bright yellow bike on a street corner in the city. You hold on it and ride away. But wait, isn’t this     1     [streɪndʒ]? No one shouts, “Stop! Thief!” That’s because this free ride is just fine with the city.

You can find hundreds of free yellow bikes in some American     2     (city). The idea began in Portland, Oregon, in 1994. People saw     3     need for free transportation, and they wanted to help     4     [kən'trəʊl] pollution. So, to get citizens out of their cars and onto pollution-free bikes, they     5     (start) the Yellow Bike Project.

The public bikes are painted bright yellow and placed throughout the city. People can hop on a yellow bike and ride to work or to     6     [skuːl]. They then leave the bike     7     the next rider.

Chen Zhijie is a young boy. He comes from Foshan, Guangdong. He likes drawing very much. One day, he goes for a Nucleic aicd test. He sees many doctors and n    1     there. They work very h    2    . All of them are tired, but they have no time to take a short rest. He also sees lots of people. They do the test and w    3     in line quietly. Chen looks at them and has a good idea. He wants to draw a picture about them. There is an old picture about Kaifeng (开封) in history. Many people do different things in it. He wants to draw a picture in the same way.

It’s not easy. It takes him about 5 days to draw this picture. There are 345 people in it. They are in different places. Chen puts it on the I    4     and shares it with more people. He gets many likes.

“The doctors did a lot during the epidemic. I want to make people know about that. The old picture makes more people know about the n    5     picture,” says Chen.

Zhang Ning was     1     volunteer at the Winter Olympics in 2022. She shared her stories and     2     (feel) on the radio. “I was 10 years old when Beijing hosted (举办) the Summer Olympics (奥林匹克) in 2008. When I     3     (watch) TV and enjoying the wonderful actions, I was     4     (excite).”

“I cheered for our athletes when they were trying their best,” she said. “Volunteering is unusual. I’ll do such jobs again and invite more people to join us.”

Years ago, I was on a train ride into the city when I noticed two girls and their mom getting on board. They carried two bags, which were big enough     1     (hold) what they needed for several days. One of the girls sat next to     2     old gentleman, who started talking with her.
