If you were a little screw (钉子), could you stick to your post forever? Lei Feng answered this question with his service to his country.

Lei Feng was a     1     (China) soldier. During the 22 years he was alive, he helped many people. He carried luggage for the elderly and gave food to children. He once gave all his money to his     2     (friend) sick mother. He darned pants and socks for his fellow soldier.

Some stand at the crossing to remind people of different traffic     2     (标志). Some go to the animal hospital to care for dogs or cats that are     3     (生病的). Some go to the old people’s home to     4     (扫；打扫) the floor for the lonely old people. Tom is a student from Huansha Middle School. He     5     (自愿给予) books to the students in some poor     6     (地区) in Sichuan every year. “I can get a strong feeling of satisfaction through volunteering.     7     (最近；不久前), I mailed some books to a village school. Students there were happy to get them. Also, volunteering helps me to better     8     (竞争) in the future. We should help each other     9     (既然) we live in the same planet.” he said proudly while he was communicating with the reporter last week.

During my teen years, I wasn’t an outgoing girl at all. I was never     1     (interest) in volunteering. I just     2     (think) it was something people who had a lot of free time did. My opinion of volunteering changed when I started university. I heard new friends talk about all the ways they had helped others and, in return, had improved     3     (them).

The most important and life-changing volunteering experience for me is in the summer of 2019. It became clear for me that volunteering locally was not enough. It was the fifth day of the new term. It was raining when I was     1     the way home after school. Luckily, I took my umbrella. When I passed a corner near my house, I saw an old man. He was carrying an umbrella and a basket of apples.     2    , I heard a cry, “Help!” Then I saw the old man     3     (fall) down and the apples were dropping on the ground. I helped him stand up right away, and picked up the apples into the basket. After that, I sent the old man to his house. When we arrived at his home, my     4     (foot) were both wet in the rain. He said “Many thanks to you! You are such a     5     (help) boy!” to me. I was very happy because I helped someone in need.

Zhang Ning was     1     volunteer at the Winter Olympics in 2022. She shared her stories and     2     (feel) on the radio. “I was 10 years old when Beijing hosted (主办) the Summer Olympics in 2008. When I was watching TV and     3     (enjoy) the wonderful actions, I was     4     (excite).”

She came to know that holding the Olympics was a chance to tell China’s stories to the world, showing the world a more beautiful China. “It’s a wonderful experience to be a volunteer at the Winter Olympics 14 years later. It was my     5     (one) time to be a volunteer. It made my childhood dream come true,” said Zhang Ning. “I learned a lot,     6     I was busy and tired.”
