文章大意:本文主要讲述了一只5个月大的斑尾塍鹬破纪录的迁徙旅程,并且研究者们根据这只鸟的破纪录迁徙,对斑尾塍鹬践行了深入的推测和研究。

1 .

A five-month-old bird became a world record holder by flying around 13.560 kilometers without stopping in 11 days. The bar-tailed godwit(斑尾塍鹬)took off from Alaska, the United States, on October 13, 2022 and landed in Tasmania, Australia, on October 24. The old record was set in 2021 by a different bar-tailed godwit. The adult flew about 13,050 kilometers to Australia.

The new record holder carried a 5G GPS chip(芯片), so its first migration(迁徙)could be followed by scientists. The bird flew mostly over the open Pacific Ocean to reach Tasmania. According to Eric Woehler, an expert at BirdLife Tasmania, the journey was very dangerous. “If a godwit lands on water because of tiredness or bad weather, it will die, because it has no way of getting off the water,” he said.

Adult godwits begin their migration up to six weeks earlier, so it was impossible for the young bird to have followed more experienced adults south. Godwits usually migrate in groups, but the researchers aren’t sure yet if the bird finished the record-breaking journey alone or as a part of a group.

During the trip, the bird flew over a few islands which could give it a chance to eat and drink. But for some reason, it just kept flying. This may have to do with a special talent of bar-tailed godwits. They are able to shrink some parts of their body so that there will be enough space for fat. When they land and start to eat, those parts will grow again. Such ability is really helpful when they make long trips over the sea.

C.It broke the record set in 2020.D.It flew about 13,050 kilometers.
2. The journey was dangerous for the bird because ________.
A.there was no food for itB.it might be eaten by sea animals
C.it was not able to land on waterD.it might get lost in bad weather
3. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Adult godwits always lead the younger to the south.
B.Not all godwits migrate at the same time.
C.The record-breaking bird was more experienced than others.
D.The record-breaking bird finished the journey by itself.
4. The underlined word “shrink” probably means “________”.
A.make something cleanerB.make something warmer
C.make something strongerD.make something smaller
5. What is the best title for the passage!
A.The bar-tailed godwit’s abilityB.5G GPS chips for birds
C.A record-breaking journeyD.A special talent of bar-tailed godwits

文章大意:本文是四位语言学习者和自身的学习经历,给出了四种学习一门新语言的建议和方法。
2 . 完成表格,每空词数不限。

Learning a new language is never easy. If you wish to learn a new language efficiently, here are some tips(建议) from four language learners that may help.

Singing in the Shower. Maria believes one of the most pleasant ways to practice a new language is to sing your favorite songs while you’re taking a shower. After that, you can take a look at the lyrics to see if you’ve missed any words. However, remember not to waste too much water!

Don’t Worry about Mistakes! In Lee’s opinion, you shouldn’t worry too much about mistakes. It’s a part of learning a new language and you’ll learn much more quickly by having a try at speaking than by saying nothing. It’s really OK if you don’t get it exactly right.

Talk to Your Animal Friends. Keith suggests it is an excellent way to talk to animal friends. For him, he usually talks to his pets in other languages and gives them a common name in that language.

Record Your Voice. Shinn’s advice is to listen to the tapes made by a native speaker, read the same tapes and record the voice. Then listen to both of them carefully to find out the differences and the weak points in your pronunciation. It’s a great way to improve your speaking skills .

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章中阐述了在网络时代家长们担心孩子上网时会遇到不健康的内容,为了解决这一问题,专门为孩子的搜索引擎——Kiddle已经出现,文章为我们详细介绍了Kiddle。

5 . The Internet nowadays opens a wide world to people, including teenagers, but many parents worry that their children may meet with something unhealthy when searching online. In order to solve this problem, a new search engine for children called Kiddle has appeared.

Search results are filtered (过滤), so only safe websites are shown and descriptions are written in simple language. Searches with bad words are shut off, too.

Kiddle uses the same colors as Google in its logo and a similar design on its homepage, too—with an extra robot picture.

The top three Kiddle search results show safe websites and pages written specially for kids, and those websites and pages are well chosen and checked by Kiddle developers.

The fourth to seventh results will be safe and trusted websites that are not written specially for kids, but have content written in a simple way. These results are also chosen and checked.

Results on the eighth and onwards pages are safe and famous websites that are written for adults. They provide expert content, but are harder for kids to understand.

Unlike on Google, most results appear along with large thumbnail pictures (缩略图) to make it easier for children to find what they are looking for. For example, when searching for “meow meow”. Google produces pages for information about a drug (毒品) that has “meow meow” as its nickname (绰号), but Kiddle lists information only about cats, even with some cat cartoon pictures.

The company explained, “Websites which appear in Kiddle search results satisfy family—friendly requirements, as we filter websites with unhealthy content.”

文章大意:本文主要介绍了iPhone X的面部识别,包括工作原理以及优缺点。

6 . What do you use to unlock your mobile phone? A password? A fingerprint? Or simply a look?

On September 12th, 2017, Apple introduced its iPhone X, which has an eye-catching technology—Face ID. With Face ID, Apple says, you can unlock your new iPhone by just staring at it. It is supported by a so-called True Depth camera system built into the front of the iPhone X.

When the camera system sees a person’s face, it uses 30,000 dots (点) to map the shape and outline of the face. A mathematical model (数学模型) of the face will then be created and stored in the phone. The next time the person looks at the iPhone X, the same dots are mapped onto his or her face and compared to the stored model. If the two match, then the phone unlocks. This happens in less than a second.

Apple says the system is smart. If you change your hairstyle, put on sunglasses or make-up, or use the phone in the dark, Face ID still works.

Although the technology sounds fancy, there are still worries. For example, will Face ID work for twins? According to Apple, the chance of others to unlock your iPhone X using Face ID is one in a million. Face ID can tell the difference between twins, but the error rating rises. So one would need to set a password then.

Apple also says that Face ID only unlocks when you stare at it. So the phone won’t unlock if you are just looking at the phone for the time. It won’t work either if someone puts the phone at your sleeping face or your photo.

1. According to Apple, how do people unlock iPhone X?
A.By pressing a password.B.By staring at it.
C.By taking photos.D.By using fingerprint.
2. The third paragraph mainly tells us _______.
A.how to take photos using Face ID in iPhone X
B.how the camera works to unlock the phone
C.how to map the shape and outline of a user’s shape
D.how long it takes to unlock the phone
3. The underlined word “the error rating” in Paragraph 5 means “_______”.
A.正确率B.分辨率C.错误率D.高清率
4. The following statements about Face ID are true EXCEPT _______.
A.Face ID is intelligent because you can still unlock the phone with makeup on.
B.The True Depth camera system is put in iPhone X to support Face ID.
C.When you are asleep, people can’t use your iPhone by putting it on your face.
D.Passwords will no longer be necessary to unlock iPhone X.
5. What is the main idea of the passage?
A.the popularity of iPhone X
B.the introduction of Face ID in iPhone X.
C.the differences between iPhone X and iPhone 8.
D.the disadvantages of iPhone X.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,介绍了英国人的骄傲——人造奇迹巨石阵。

8 . Stonehenge (巨石阵) is an ancient circle of stones in the south of England. It was built about 5,000 years ago. Every year, it attracts thousands of tourists to enjoy its beauty. They also wonder about how and why it was built.

There are about 80 stones and each is about five meters tall. The stones were 380 kilometers away from where they were made. The ancient people had only wooden tools. To move the stones they probably used tree trunks (树干) to roll them along. So it was a wonder (奇迹) to build Stonehenge. Scientists say it took millions of man-hours to move and raise the heavy stones. How did people move these huge pieces of stone from the place so far?No one knows the answer. One record said the great stones were carried to England by huge magical aliens (有魔力的外星人)! But we don’t know.

Some scientists believe that Stonehenge was a temple. Some believe it was a place to bury (埋葬) dead people or perhaps it was used to study the stars and the sky at night. 文章大意:本文主要讲述了提高记忆力的方法。

9 . Memory is very important. It helps you remember who you are, where you live, what you have learnt and what you plan to do in the future.

Some scientists believe that there are three types of memory—immediate, short-term and long-term.

Immediate memory holds information for less than a second, e.g. the name of a road you have just seen. Then it either forgets it or passes it into short-term memory. Short-term memory can hold about seven items of information at a time, e.g. telephone numbers. It holds them for about 30 seconds. Then it either forgets them or passes them into long-term memory. Long-term memory can hold information for the whole of our lives, e.g. the names of countries or the meanings of words.

So, how can you improve your memory?

It is important to exercise your brain. For example, you can do new things and change your daily habits. If you walk a different way to school or take a different bus, you will keep your brain active. You can try to memorize something new. You can try a Maths puzzle(益智游戏). You can also try to learn new skills or study a foreign language. Your brain gets lots of regular exercise if you do any of these things.

If you live a healthy life, your memory will work better. You must have a balanced diet(均衡的饮食). You must give your brain enough time to rest. Unless you get enough sleep every night, you will not remember things well.

If you want your brain to work well, you also need to relax. If you get too worried, your brain will slow down, and your memory will become less excellent.

So, to improve your memory, you should exercise your brain, live a healthy life and stay relaxed.

文章大意:本文主要讲述了中国目前拥有超过30000公里的高速铁路,预计到2025年将增至38000公里。详细地介绍了中国高铁的发展和未来的计划。

10 . China now has more than 30, 000 kilometers of high speed track, and this is expected to increase to 38,000 kilometers by 2025. Fully two thirds of the world’s high speed rail(by length)is in China. Here, we track the exciting technological developments in high speed rail and consider their cultural influence.

While the main advantage of the high speed rail lines is convenience for people to get from one city to another as quickly as possible, some of these high speed lines have become popular tourist attractions(places that many tourists visit). A good example of this is the Hefei-Fuzhou high speed line. Technically speaking, this was one of the most challenging high speed rail routes ever built; nearly 90% of the track was laid either on bridges or in tunnels(隧道). However, the amazing views are worth it, as the train goes through some of China’s most beautiful mountainous areas, including the Huangshan and the Wuyi Mountain Ranges.

As China has gained skills and knowledge in high speed rail, it is trying to export(出口)its technology to other countries. Its first project on the international market was the line connecting Istanbul with Turkey’s capital, Ankara, 530 kilometers away. This was followed by projects among other countries. Perhaps its most challenging project is a Trans Asian network(横贯亚洲铁路网)connecting China with Europe. Although it is difficult, China will make every effort to take on this plan. It is hoped to be completed by 2030 as a part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative(一带一路的倡议).

Thanks to high speed rail, the travel time between main cities in China has already been reduced to only a few hours. So this convenience should improve the development within and out of China. No doubt, it will also bring the people of the country closer together, and in time bring about deep social changes.

1. How many kilometers of high speed track does China have now?
A.Over 38,000.B.Over 30,000.C.Over 45,000.D.Over 57,000.
2. Why does the writer talk about the Hefei-Fuzhou line in Paragraph 2?
A.To prove how fast the high speed lines can be.
B.To stress how convenient the high speed lines are.
C.To explain high speed lines can be popular tourist attractions.
D.To show the technical development of the high speed lines.
3. What is the most challenging project that China plans to take on?
A.Inventing faster trains.B.Connecting China with Europe.
C.Designing and building its own trains.D.Connecting the whole country in 2030.
4. What advantages does the high speed rail have?
A.It should improve the development within and out of China.
B.It takes only a few hours to travel between main cities in China by high-speed train.
C.It will bring the people of the country closer together, and bring about deep social changes.
D.All the above.
5. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.Racing to the FutureB.Great Changes in China
C.Rising China in the WorldD.High Speed Rail in the World
