1 . I’m Peter. I live in a small town near Beijing in China. You can’t see it on the map of China because it is too small. The air here is fresh, and it’s healthy to take a walk after dinner.

There are not many tall buildings in our town. The best building is in our school. There are about four hundred students and twenty­-five teachers in our school. In the front of the school, there is a playground. I often play basketball with my classmates on the playground. There is a little garden behind our school. And we can grow beautiful flowers and plant trees in the garden. Next to the garden, there is an orange orchard. You can see a lot of oranges in it in autumn. You can see birds singing everywhere. There is a small river not far from our school. In summer, we can go swimming with our teachers in it. We study Chinese, English, maths and other subjects at school. The teachers are very nice. We love them and our school very much.

3 . The food British eat in Britain is very different from Chinese food. For example, the British eat a lot of potatoes. They like eating them every day. They eat bread for breakfast and usually for one other meal. They eat their bread with butter, cheese, or jam, the things we don’t eat much in China. Cheese and butter are made from milk. They drink a lot of milk, too. And they put it in their tea. They put sugar in their tea as well. They like Chinese tea, but mostly they drink strong black tea from India and Sri Lanka (斯里兰卡) .They don’t eat much rice. For their main meal they like meat or fish with potatoes and one or two other vegetables. They serve (供应) all these together. Later they always have something sweet. They call this “dessert” . They don’t have jiaozi in Britain.

9 . Every year, people celebrate Spring Festival in China. It usually comes in January or February. It is often cold at this time of year, but people are happy.(1) It is the most important _________ in ________. So before it comes, everyone buys many things. And they often make a special kind of food-dumplings. It means “come together”.

(2) Parents always buy new clothes for their children and children also buy presents for their parents. On Spring Festival Eve (春节前夕), all the family members come back home to have fun. They sing, dance and play cards. When they enjoy the meal they give each other the best wishes for the coming year. All of them have a good time. People often set off fireworks. When they meet, they say “Happy New Year” to each other. They also watch fireworks, lion dances and many other wonderful programmes. They all have a good time.

10 . Do you think animals can see colours? Scientists think that many animals cannot see colours. The world is black and white to them. Scientists want to find out if dogs can see colours.When the scientists give the dogs food, they show them a certain(某种) colour every time. The dogs get ready to eat when they see this colour. The scientists then show the dogs another colour. Again the dogs get ready to eat. The colours are all the same to them. Colours are not all the same to monkeys. For example, if we put food in a red box, and do this every day, a monkey will always go to the red box to get food. If we put food in a blue box, the monkey will refuse to go to it.
