1 . Steven Spielberg is the world’s most famous director. Hundreds of millions of people around the world have seen his films like Firelight, Amblin’ and The Color Purple. His films include two of the most popular films: Jurassic Park and E.T: The Extraterrestrial.

Each of Steven’s parents had a deep influence on the young boy’s growing and character. His mother had given up her job when she married. When Steven was six, his father took him to Philadelphia to see his first film, The Greatest Show on Earth. Steven enjoyed this exciting circus (马戏团) story, however he could not understand how a circus could perform on a screen. Part of him felt disappointed that he couldn’t smell the sawdust (锯木) and gunpowder.

When Steven was twelve, his parents bought an 8mm Kodak movie camera. Steven’s father handed Steven the camera and asked him to try. The first efforts were terrible, but Steven was interested in camera. He used his toys as characters and began making short films. By his teens Steven had made his first short film, called The Great Train Crash. Before long the Spielberg house began to look like a film set, with furniture and lights being moved around to prepare for a new film.

He is skilled in making a film excite, sadden or amuse people as they watch it. Spielberg understands the life in the countryside, television and fast cars, all of which became more common in his childhood in 1950s America. Films such as Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind succeed because they are about ordinary people.

After all the years Steven Spielberg had spent dreaming about getting into Hollywood. Steven Spielberg’s films were finally received the highest praise around the world.

Can you cook? If so, what dishes are you good at cooking? For students, being able to cook will become a skill in the near future. They will also need to learn how to plant vegetables, feed chickens or ducks and repair the TV or lights.

From September, 2022, students will have labor classes（劳动课程）at school. The first kind is about doing chores, including cleaning, cooking and repairing. It will be normal for students to cook in the classroom. The next kind is about making something by hand and using new technologies（科技）, such as 3D printing and laser cutting（激光切割）. The third one is service work. Students can volunteer to do something in the neighborhood.

Most parents welcome such classes. They think it is necessary for kids to learn some life skills. Liu Fang, a mother of a 6-year-old boy in Zunyi, agrees to have the classes. For the past years, she has taught her son to do chores and make dishes for the family. Liu said, “He should share chores with other family members.” These labor classes can make students become independent early. And they can also help to develop students’ labor skills.

3 . China has four satellite launch bases（卫星发射基地）. They are Jiuquan in Gansu, Xichang in Sichuan, Taiyuan in Shanxi and Wenchang in Hainan.

Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center which was founded（建立）in 1958 is one of the four famous satellite launch bases in China. The center has created eight proud firsts for China’s space industry. On April 21, 1970, China’s first man-made earth satellite was raised there. The Long March 2F rocket carrying the Shenzhou XII manned spacecraft blasted off（发射）from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in June, 2021.

Xichang Satellite Launch Center, also known as Xichang Satellite City, was founded in 1970. After 37 years of development, the center has thousands of sets of excellent equipment（设备）. It is known as the “Oriental Houston（东方休斯敦）”.

Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center was founded in 1967. The center has launched China’s first weather satellite “Fengyun-1”, making nine firsts in the history of China’s satellite launches.

Wenchang Space Launch Center（founded in 2009）is now the fourth satellite launch center of China. Because it is only 19 degrees away from the equator（赤道）, more rocket loads（负载）are possible, making it the center of China’s space development in the future.

Humans have many ways to say “hi” and “bye”. It’s a way to be polite. But did you know that apes also do this?

According to a new study, we have found this kind of behavior (行为) in animals for the first time. Many animals greet each other, but they don’t say “goodbye” like apes do.

Scientists studied over 1,200 apes. Of course, they don’t say “What’s up?” like we do. They use body language.

For example, they will touch each other or hold hands. They might also butt (顶) heads or just look at each other. They do these things both before and after they spend time together. These greetings will be shorter if the apes already know each other. Humans do this too.

Scientists say that the common ancestors (祖先) of apes and humans might have done this as well. Then they passed down the habit to both of us.

Many people are moving from the countryside to cities. They think the traffic is convenient (方便的) in cities. There are many shops, bookstores, hospitals and schools. And they like living in the tall buildings.

But I would like to live in the countryside because it is clean and quiet. The air is fresh (新鲜的) . The sky (天空) is blue. Also, there are many houses with big yards in the countryside. But cities are often very noisy. There are many factories in cities and they make the air very dirty. The cost of living is high and the traffic is very heavy in cities, so I don’t like living there.

9 . Millions of years ago, dinosaurs (恐龙) controlled the earth. And there were different types of dinosaurs on the earth. Some of them were no bigger than chickens, but all of them had very small brains (大脑). Later on, there weren’t any dinosaurs. What happened to them?

In the days of dinosaurs, the whole earth was warm and wet. There were many green forests. But the earth changed slowly all the time. When parts of the earth became cold and dry, the forests there died. Then dinosaurs could not find enough food to eat. This must be one reason why dinosaurs died out.

What’s another reason? We can make a guess. New kinds of animals came to the earth. Some had big brains and were fast and strong. They could kill dinosaurs. Some ate dinosaur eggs, too.

There may be other reasons that we do not know about. Each year, people will find some dinosaur footprints (脚印) and bones. Scientists are trying to tell us more about dinosaurs.
