文章大意:本文主要讨论了关于每天应该喝多少水的问题,指出不同的人有不同的需求,而且我们的身体会告诉我们何时需要水分。

3 . In school, we are told to drink water between classes. Our parents ask us to bring our water bottles to school and we’re reminded by experts that water is good for our skin and helps control our weight. But how much should we actually be drinking?

For many years, people have followed the advice of drinking eight glasses of water, eight times a day, known as the “8×8 rule”. According to Jessica Brown, this seems to have partly come from a misunderstanding of old advice that was published almost 80 years ago. In 1945, a study advised drinking one millilitre (毫升) of liquid for each calorie (卡路里) of food. This is about two litres of water a day, or eight glasses per person. But, Jessica says, the reality is that different people have different needs. Weight, age and activity level all play a role in how much water someone should drink.

Then do we need to control how much water we drink? It’s not that important, according to Dr. Stanley Goldfarb from the University of Pennsylvania. He says our bodies are good at telling us when we need water. When we are thirsty, it means our bodies need more water. Our kidneys (肾脏) help us keep the water we have, even before we feel thirsty.

There are, of course, benefits to drinking water. It helps our bodies stay at the right temperature. It helps us keep away bad things in our bodies. It helps us digest (消化) food. It protects our joints (关节).

So, next time you feel thirsty, reach for a glass of water. But don’t worry if you don’t drink exactly eight glasses a day. Your body knows what it needs.

7 . There are growing facts that fast food is one of the worst parts of modern life. Studies have shown that burgers and fried chicken can cause health problems.

However, fast food restaurants are still attractive. The most important reason is that their service is fast. Their staff are friendly and very smart-looking in their tidy and bright uniforms. Moreover, most fast food restaurants are near places that people often pass by. It is so easy to just grab a burger and eat on the way to work.

Fast food is often so conveniently packed that it will not cause a mess even if you stand and eat it. Fast food restaurants are also very clean. A lot of clever ads have made them the coolest places, but none of them has ever told and will never tell you that too much fast food is not good for your health.

Such attractive places are selling junk food! Isn’t it a pity? Is there a way to change the fast-food restaurants into special places where you get the best possible, healthy and fresh food? As people realize the health problems that fast food causes, it is quite likely that fast food restaurants may go out of date sooner or later.

Therefore, instead of saying no to fast food restaurants, a better idea may be to persuade them to change their men. If they could join healthy food together with their speed of service and delicious tastes, that will be the next best thing on Earth for people!

文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。关于功能型饮料并不一定会真的提供能量。
9 .

It used to be that people would drink coffee or tea in the morning to pick them up and get them going for the day. Then cola drinks hit the market. With lots of caffeine and sugar, these drinks soon became the pick-me-up of choice for many adults and teenagers. Now drink companies are putting out so-called “energy drinks.” These drinks have the specific aim of giving tired customers more energy.

One example of a popular energy drink is Red Bull. The company that puts out this drink has reported that Red Bull is not a thirst quencher (解渴饮料). Instead, the drink is meant to revitalize (使恢复生机) a tired customer’s body and mind. In order to do this, the makers of Red Bull, and other energy drinks, typically add vitamins and certain chemicals to their drinks. The added chemicals are like chemicals that the body naturally produces for energy. The vitamins, chemicals, caffeine, and sugar found in these drinks all seem to give a person energy.

Health experts are not so sure, though. For one thing, there is not enough evidence (证据) to show that all of the vitamins added to energy drinks actually raise a person’s energy level. Another problem is that there are so many things in the drinks. Nobody knows for sure how all of the ingredients in energy drinks work together.

Dr. Brent Bauer cautions (告诫) people about believing all the claims (申明) energy drinks make. He says, “It may be true if you put these twelve things together, you will get a good result.” However Dr. Bauer adds the mix of ingredients could also have a negative impact (负面影响) on the body “We just don’t know at this point,” he says.

1. Which of the following can be found in most energy drinks?
①Caffeine          ②Sugar             ③Vitamins          ④Thirst Chemicals
A.①②③B.①②④C.①③④D.②③④
2. According to the passage, what makes it difficult for researchers to know if an energy drink gives people energy?
A.The age of the customers.B.The number of ingredients.
C.Natural chemicals in a person’s body.D.The company that makes the drinks.
3. What has Dr. Bauer probably researched?
A.Drinks for teenage athletes.B.Vitamins and chemicals in the body.
C.Countries where Red Bull is popularD.Habits of healthy and unhealthy adults.
4. What is the main idea of this passage?
A.Red Bull is a good energy drink.B.Caffeine is bad for people to drink.
C.Energy drinks may or may not work.D.Teenagers should not drink energy drinks.

文章大意:本文了有关吃零食的规则。

10 . Snack Rules

Probably you grew up with a stop-snacking mom. That is a mom who tells her kids that snacks are bad. They will make you fat. They will hurt your teeth.

Well, Mom may be right about most things, but she isn’t right about all snacks. There is actually a healthy way to snack.     1     The right snacks can keep you from eating too much at dinner and keep you from getting fat.

The first rule about snacking is to make your own.     2     Most of those snacks have too much sugar and salt in them.

3     Things like bread and crackers are processed quickly by your body. Have some cheese or yogurt to go along with some bread, and you’ve got a winning snack.

The third rule about snacking is to remember water. Especially when you are working, it is easy to mistake being tired for being hungry.     4     Your body might just be trying to tell you to drink some water. Have a bottle of water before you pull out another snack. That might be all you really need.

With one or two snack breaks during your day, you will probably find that you eat less at lunch and dinner. Smaller meals will help you cut down the amount of food you eat during your day. And eating less is a great way to start losing weight.

    5

根据短文内容,从选项中选出能填入文中空白处的最佳选项,选项中有一项为多余选项。
A.This is the fifth rule, Mom.
B.Sorry about that, Mom.
C.And you might not really be hungry at all.
D.In fact, eating snacks in the right way can keep you healthier!
E.Don’t buy snacks that are already wrapped and sold in stores.
F.The second rule about snacking is to eat things that take longer for your body to process.
