1 . As space science develops, man has learned more and more about space. Space is not only amazing but also dangerous. While working in space, spacemen are facing danger.

Scientists have found out that radiation(辐射) is the greatest danger to spacemen in space. When spacemen are working in space, they are in danger of radiation from the sun and other stars, which is bad for their health. The damage done by radiation won't be discovered until their children or even grandchildren are born. Some special medicine may work a little, but no really helpful medicine has been.

Space junk is also thought a great danger to spacemen. It's reported that there are 9,000 man-made things flying in space. About 30% of these are man-made satellites(卫星), 10% are spaceships, and the rest are space junk. An explosion(爆炸) in 1996 made a cloud of 300,000 fragments, each at least 4mm in size, and even a small piece of these knocked against a spaceship window and did some damage. Scientists are watching and reporting any possible danger all the time. They are working on helpful ways to do with space junk.

Although space is really dangerous, it interests everyone on the earth. In the near future, it may become usual for people to spend a few days in a space hotel. We may even choose to leave the earth and live in space for a few years. So we should care for space and do something to help improve the space environment.

3 . Have you heard of parallel universes? Some scientists believe that there might be other universes right alongside ours. Our universe may be just a part of a tree of universes that are all there at the same time—only in different states of time with different pasts and different futures.

What does this mean? It means there is a different “you” in these parallel universes. You might be a Hollywood star in one of them!

In parallel universes, there may be completely different physical laws (物理法则). World wars might have different results. Really, humans themselves might have become extinct (灭绝的) in certain parallel universes!

The idea of parallel universes dates back to 1954. Hugh Everett Ⅲ, a Princeton University student in the United States, developed the idea that parallel universes—exactly like and related to our universe—are there. However, many physicists and astronomers say that this theory can’t be tested, so it’s not really a theory at all.

But since then, the idea has shown up in comic books, television and movies. Shows like Star Trek and Doctor Who use the idea to develop their stories.

Parallel universes might not only be there in the movies. If their stories are true, some people might have already experienced other realities.

First covered by newspapers in 1952, Cornelio Closa, a schoolboy from the Philippines, kept disappearing right in front of his friends and family. Sometimes disappearing for days, he would somehow disappear from his locked family home and crowded school classroom.

While such stories may sound crazy, even the known universe is far older and larger than we are. So, who’s to say that one day we won’t learn to cross dimensions (维)?

1. What are parallel universes?
A.Everyone lives in two universes.
B.Other universes are right beside ours.
C.They are past universes and future universes.
D.Different countries are different universes.
2. The idea of parallel universes was thought up by ________.
A.a physicistB.an astronomer
C.a Hollywood starD.a university student
3. After the idea of parallel universes started to appear, ________.
A.it was thought to be a theory
B.it showed up in comic books
C.it was experienced by some people
D.it was considered to cause humans to die out
4. Cornelio Closa’s story tells us parallel universes________.
A.can be really there
B.will be our home
C.have killed some people
D.can make a person disappear
5. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.The idea of parallel universes appeared a century ago.
B.Star Trek and Doctor Who are books about parallel universes.
C.You may see another “you” in parallel universes.
D.We will travel to another parallel universe.

5 .

Thousands of years ago, Chinese poet Qu Yuan (about 340-278 BC) wrote the poem Tianwen, meaning Quest for Heavenly Truth. He came up with a series of questions about the sky, stars, nature, myths and the world around us. The poem showed his doubts about traditional ideas and the spirit of finding the truth.

Inspired by the great poet, China has named its upcoming series of planetary exploration missions (行星探测任务) after the poem. The first one in the series-a Mars exploration mission-has been named Tianwen 1, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) said on April 24, China’s Space Day. This shows China’s desire (渴望) to explore the universe and discover its secrets.

China has been making great progress in space exploration. As early as 1970, China launched its first man-made Earth satellite (卫星), becoming the fifth country in the world to launch a man-made satellite independently. Since 2003, China has carried out six Shenzhou manned missions and launched two space labs into Earth’s orbit (轨道). China’s moon exploration missions-the Chang’e series-started in 2007. In December 2018, China became the first country to send the probe (探测器) Chang’e 4 to the moon’s far side, which always faces away from Earth.

The Tianwen series will follow the Shenzhou and Chang’e series and move further into space. The first step is to launch a Mars probe this year, which will mark the start of China’s exploration of the Red Planet. The probe is expected to orbit (绕……轨道运行), land on and explore Mars in one mission. If it succeeds, it will be the first to complete all of these tasks in one mission. The Long March 5 rocket will send the probe to Mars. It will take seven months to reach the planet and land.

After this mission, China plans to visit Mars again in 2028, aiming to collect soil from the surface of the planet and bring it to Earth. Around 2030, China will explore Jupiter and several asteroids (小行星), according to CNSA.

1. How does the passage lead to the topic?
A.By telling a story.B.By giving an opinion.
C.By answering a question.D.By offering a suggestion.
2. What do we know about the Mars exploration mission?
A.China will launch a Mars probe named Long March 5.
B.It will be the first mission of the Tianwen series.
C.China will launch the probe on Space Day.
D.The probe will be launched on a rocket built by another country.
3. Paragraph 3 focuses on ________.
A.how China explored the moonB.how many missions China has completed
C.the progress China has made in exploring spaceD.the meaning of the name Tianwen
4. The first step of the Mars exploration mission is ________.
A.taking a clear picture of MarsB.designing a probe
C.naming the missionD.sending a probe to Mars
5. What will CNSA probably do in the future, according to the last paragraph?
A.It will visit Venus and several asteroids.
B.It will collect soil from the surface of the moon.
C.It will launch other missions to Mars.
D.It will visit all of the planets in the solar system.
