2 . What is 5G? It is the fifth generation (代) of mobile network technology. These new networks are coming.
China issued commercial license (发放商用牌照) for 5G on June 6, 2019. This means that China’s Telecom (中国电信) companies have been able to offer 5G networks to mobile phone users.
Each mobile network generation is faster and more powerful than the one before it. 1G let us talk to each other. 2G let us send messages. 3G gave us data (数据) and the Internet. And 4G made all of these things faster. What’s special about 5G?
5G has a very short delay (延时) between sending and receiving information. Now, 4G takes about 100 to 200 milliseconds (毫秒) to send and receive data. But 5G will reduce the delay to 1 millisecond or less. This big change will not only make our mobile Internet faster, but also deeply change our lives.
Entertainment (娱乐)
5G networks are about 100 times faster than 4G. This means you can download (下载) a movie in seconds.
Transportation
5G will also bring us safer self-driving cars. These cars can send signals (信号) to each other. 5G will allow cars to react (反应) even faster than real drivers.
Smarthomes
5G also makes the Internet of Things possible. Internet of Things is a large network that connects everything to the Internet. Smarthomes are part of it. For example, if its sensor feels the air becoming dry, a smart sprinkler (洒水器) can water your plants by itself.

4 . For your next out-of-this-world vacation, you now have the option of really going out of this world—but it’ll cost you $ 40 million. According to a new report from Popular Mechanics, Russia is looking to build a luxury hotel in outer space. There you will wake up to a breathtaking blue planet—the Earth! The hotel is expected to be stationed on the International Space Station (ISS).
According to Popular Mechanics, the hotel will include a luxury orbital suite with big windows, personal hygiene (卫生) facilities, exercise equipment, and yes, WiFi. Because if you can’t share your experience on social media, did it really even happen?
Of course, the reasons behind the hotel aren’t just for fun and games. Apparently, space tourism might be able to help the Russians pay for another module (组件) to add to the international Space Station. Russian space contractor RKK Energia is currently building the first such module, which will give scientists a laboratory and power supply station from which to conduct tests.
If any of this is going to happen, however, Russia is going to have to hurry. With the ISS expected to be out of use in 2028, there’s little time to build the hotel and find wealthy tourists to actually buy a trip into outer space.
So if you’ve recently come into a fortune and are interested in investing in what could be the time of your life, ISS is calling your name.

6 . Man has invented four kinds of satellites. The first kind of satellites studies the geography of the earth. They are used to make maps. They also help countries to see where they may find oil or gold.
The second kind of satellites is used to guide ships and planes. A ship or a plane can send a message to the satellite, and the satellite can find out where the ship or the plane is.
The third kind studies the weather. These satellites watch clouds and strong winds moving across the earth. They warn countries to make preparations when very bad weather is coming.
The last kind is used for communication. Telephone calls between countries can be sent by these satellites. Some can carry hundreds of calls at the same time. The call is sent to the satellite, then the satellite sends it to a station in the country and this country is being phoned. These satellites also carry pictures; they can receive and send about eight programmes at a time.

7 . China has got very important findings into its space with great efforts, and in 2019, China became the first country to send a rover without astronauts to the far side of the moon. But it had to go at it alone in developing a space station, in part because it has been excluded(排除) from the International Space Station Project. The US leads that partnership with Russia, Europe, Canada and Japan but China. They will not co-operate with the Asian countries in orbit. China has had the first solid-liquid bundled(捆绑) launch vehicle and the Long March 6A rockets. China has successfully mastered a number of key new technologies such as launching the Pujiang 2 and Tiankun 2 satellites precisely into our planned orbits. This success shows that China has mastered solid-liquid bundled launch vehicle technology and has become a new member in the new generation launch vehicle family.
For the first time, our China has studied many useful technology ways to overcome many difficulties to sent the rover to the moon. These all depend on our scientists. They are working hard day and night to do lots of research by themselves. Because the scientists from other countries can’t give the knowledge to our China. So I advise our students to study harder to work for our Chinese space. I believe you can make it.

8 . Today there are 6 billion people on the Earth. By the year 2050, there may be 12.5 billion. There are a lot of people to feed. We need more food.
One way to produce more food is by growing stronger plants. For thousands of years, farmers have made plants better. Every season, they pick the best plants for the next season. It works very slowly. Since 1983, scientists have been able to change plants more quickly by changing their genetic material(遗传物质). Foods from plants grown in this way are call genetically modified foods(转基因食品), or GM foods.
By changing the genetic material of a plant, it is possible to make new plants. They make plants strong against plant diseases. They can also help in our diseases: a kind of rice is being prepared, for example, which stops people from becoming blind.
Rich countries produce GM foods because they are easy to grow and bring in more money. Poor countries are interested in them because they help produce more food.
GM plants are not natural. No one knows how good or bad they are. Making GM foods is only one way of feeding people in 2050. There are strong feelings against them, because the are unnatural. They may feed people, and then hurt them or their children later. But, both rich and poor countries are very interested in their use, and they are not going away. In 2050, we may think differently about them.

9 . Imagine a world where air pollution is no longer a problem. Clean air is all around us. People don’t have to worry about polluting the air 164 every time they drive their cars. They no longer need to face the problem of not having enough fuel either.
Although scientists have been trying for many years to develop a new kind of car that does not need gasoline (汽油), they have been unsuccessful. Recently, however, car engineers have succeeded in creating a new kind of car that runs on gasoline and electricity. This is the famous hybrid car. This car gets its name from the fact that it has a gasoline engine (引擎) and an electric motor inside. Hybrid cars do not pollute the environment as much as the cars that are commonly used today. They also cost drivers less money because they need less fuel than ordinary cars.
Hybrid cars are becoming widely popular in the United States. They are soon expected to become widely used around the world. If scientists and engineers continue to work on car development, perhaps the world with clean air that we imagined earlier just might become real in the future.

Among boys, 71% enjoy playing video games, twice as many as girls. Girls spend about 40 minutes more each day on their screens than boys do.
Truth3: Music is their favorite.
For children, while 57% have TV sets in their rooms, music is their favorite. However, only about a third listen to music on the radio. Most children listen to it on their smartphones(智能手机).
