My father and I always had a bit of trouble in our relationship. It’s not that we didn’t love each other. It’s just that we used to have ________ opinions. My dad is one of the most hard-working men I know, but I was a dreamer. I played sports as a kid, but ________ when I was making progress. Then I showed an interest in music. Robots also help disabled people, for example, blind people. Today many blind people have a guide dog to help them. In the future, guide dogs might be robot dogs.

One kind of robot guide dog has wheels. It moves in front of the owner. It is very clever. It knows the speed of its owner’s walk. The owner wears a special belt. This belt sends instructions to the owner from the dog, such as “Stop here”, “Turn left” or “Turn right”.

In the United States, another kind of robot helps disabled people to take care of themselves in their daily life. The robot hears the sound of its owner’s voice. It follows instructions such as “Turn the page” or “Make a cup of coffee”.

Robots are also used in American hospitals. They can do simple jobs. At one hospital, for example, a robot takes meals from the kitchen to patients’ rooms. It never gets lost because this robot has a map of the hospital in its computer memory.

Though robots can help people in many different ways, they will never take the place of humans.

5 . Illegal (违法的) driving is really dangerous. It may cause traffic accidents, even deaths. It’s reported that thousands of people die from illegal driving each year. Many countries are trying their best to control it. France, for example, has made some strict rules and laws to stop it.

People are warned not to eat while driving. Any driver who is caught eating while at the wheel will be stopped by the police. Then he will be fined up to £ 50 for it.

Drivers are not allowed to read a map, make a phone call or listen to very loud music while driving. Besides, it is against the rules for the motorists (汽车驾驶员) to use any kind of earphones. Things change easily on the road. Drivers never know what will happen next.

From July 2 on, it will be illegal to smoke when there is a child aged 12 or under in the car. Smoking is also banned (禁止) outdoors at children’s play areas, including those at motorway rest areas. Notices in several languages have been put up at motorway service stations to warn foreign visitors of the rules.

Driving after drinking can put people in danger. All the drivers are asked to carry an alcohol breath equipment test (酒精测试) in their cars. Anyone who breaks the rule will be punished.

6 . Now more and more people buy and sell things on the Internet. They buy and sell goods to make money. So hackers (黑客) around the world are interested in this.

Hackers are often young people who love computers greatly. They use computers to get on the Internet, looking for ways to go into computer systems run by banks, homes and all kinds of offices. If they go into a computer system, they will find other people’s credit cards and try to steal the numbers. With the numbers they can take the money out of the bank.

Hackers often break into your computer system, but it’s difficult to find them. So it is also difficult for you to find the hacker who is taking your money out of the bank. Hackers can get the money from a bank with the credit card number they have got from your computer.

Scientists always ask people who have computers to pay attention to hackers. They also tell people how to fight the hackers. The answer is to choose a clever password (密码) and change it often and not to show your credit card out to anybody. If you are not careful, it’s just like keeping the bank door wide open.

When talking about Chinese literature, Journey to the West is often at the top of people’s lives. It is a classic novel     1     (write) in the sixteenth century by Wu Cheng’en (about 1500—1583). It is one of     2     (well-known) Chinese literary works in the west.

Journey to the West’s popularity has made it an inspiration for many Western works—and not just in the world of literature. Fred Ho, a musician, wrote     3     opera called Journey Beyond the West: The New Adventures of Monkey. The opera, which includes kung Fu performances and other Chinese elements (元素), borrows directly     4     Journey to the West.

Characters from Journey to the West have also     5     (appear) in many Western video games, including Over watch, War frame and League of Legends. And     6     (recent) in 2017, Netflix hosted a South Korean show called A Korean Odyssey that is a comedic retelling of the past Journey story.

But why has Journey to the West lasted not just for one year or ten years, but for     7     (century)?

James Trapp, a writer for the British Council, suggests that Sun Wukong, known to most Western readers     8     the Monkey King, is the reason for the novel’s lasting popularity. “In many ways, the Monkey King is the archetype of the folk hero, or in modern terms, the superhero,” Trapp wrote. In these ways, the Monkey King is similar to Western folk heroes such as Huckleberry Finn. However, he has been around for much     9     (long) than many of these heroes.

The story itself is similar to that of the Western classic Odyssey, a Greek poem about a     10     (hero) journey of self-discovery and victory. Its similarity to famous Western stories has made Journey to the West popular among Western readers for hundreds of years.

When Emily Cummins was four years old, her grandfather gave her a hammer (锤子). She loved using it, and started to learn how to make toys from old things that nobody used any more.

    1     She always thought a lot about making inventions to help other people. Emily’s grandfather had an illness. He had a lot of pain in his hands and fingers. One day, Emily saw that he had trouble getting toothpaste (牙膏) out of the tube. She made an invention that helped him with this, and won the Young Engineer for Britain Award for her toothpaste dispenser (挤牙膏器).

A few years later, Emily learned about the serious water shortage   (短缺) in some African countries. The women and children there often walk many kilometers a day to get water for their villages. They usually put the buckets (桶) on their heads, and they have to walk carefully in order not to spill (溅出) the water.     2     It makes it possible for the women to transport up to five buckets each time. Besides, it is easy for them to repair the water carrier when it is broken as it is made of wood.

Her latest project is a simple fridge that runs without electricity.     3     There are now thousands of families in villages in Zambia, Namibia and South Africa who use it to keep milk, food and medicine cool.

Emily is now a young woman. She is the winner of several prizes for her inventions. She is so successful.     4     As a great inventor, Emily often visits schools and talks to teenagers.
