文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。主要讲述了布朗利兄弟在参加世界铁人三项系列赛的最后一站时,兄弟二人在比赛中的感人故事。

1 . It was the final part of the 2016 World Triathlon (铁人三项) Series in Mexico. With just 700 metres to go, Alistair Brownlee was in third place and his younger brother Jonny, was in the lead. Alistair pushed himself towards the finish line in the burning heat, but as he came round the corner, he saw his brother about to fall onto the track. Alistair had to choose brotherly love, or a chance to win the race.

For Alistair, the choice was clear. His brother was in trouble. He had to help. Alistair ran towards Jonny, caught him and started pulling him towards the finish line. Alistair then pushed his brother over the line. The move put Jonny in second place and Alistair himself in third. It was an unexpected end to the race, but Alistair did not want to discuss it with the media. He just wanted to see his younger brother, who had been rushed to the medical area.

The Brownlee brothers have been doing triathlons since they were children. “Obviously, when your older brother is doing it, you think it’s a cool thing to do,” says Jonny. Alistair says that they encourage each other as much as they can when they train. Though there are arguments over “stupid things” now and then, Alistair agrees that having a brother is an advantage. “Throughout my entire life, I’ve had my brother trying to beat me at everything I do. It has been a fantastic driving force.”

Watched by millions, the ending to the race has different opinions: should the brothers have been disqualified (取消资格) or highly praised for their actions? But for Alistair, his decision was easy to explain:“Mun wouldn’t have been happy if I’d left Jonny behind.” At that moment, he was no longer an athlete aiming for a medal——he was just a brother.

3. What are people’s opinions about Alistair’s behavior?

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。作者从小喜欢运动,但后来由于关节病变不能跑步。受父亲的影响作者爱上了高尔夫,并努力克服自身的缺憾,最终成为一名职业的高尔夫选手。

4 . Growing up in Conway, South Carolina, I was always athletic and competitive. One afternoon, my brother grabbed me in the yard, and I felt some kind of pop. About an hour later, I couldn’t get up from a chair. Over the weekend, my joints (关节) swelled up. My mother took me to the hospital. It took nearly six months to check what was wrong with me. Then I was put on treatment. But I had so much joint damage that I couldn’t run like I used to.

My dad was a serious golfer. One day he said, “Let’s try golf.” He carried me onto the course. Seeing him hit those good shots made me want to do it too.

It wasn’t easy at first, because I had a lot of pain in my hands. I’d played golf, but it had never really caught my interest — it was too quiet for me. But I was happy to be outside, to have a chance of competing again, and I fell in love with it.

Later I made the high school team, but I got frustrated when I didn’t win, so I worked harder. Golf was the most challenging game I’d ever played.

I got a golf scholarship to the University of South Carolina and turned professional after I graduated. I still take medication, and I’m stiff and in pain sometimes. But I’ve got used to that.

I probably wouldn’t be a professional athlete if I hadn’t got sick. The experience taught me patience, and I learned to take nothing for granted. I know how happy I am to do what I do.

A.He was born with swelled joints.
B.His joints healed very quickly.

2. What inspired the author to play golf at the beginning?
A.His love for golf.B.His interest in sports.

D.The author thought he should cherish everything he had, even his disease.
4. What would be the best title for the passage?
A.Playing through painB.The burden lifted
C.A bitter fightD.Standing tall

6 . Dangerous as they are, extreme sports remain appealing among many Australian young people! Camp Xtreme is the perfect test of your heart.

Kite Surfing

It’s the exciting mixture of kite, board and waves. The idea of using a kite to accelerate speed seems like a new challenge:Yet the art of kite flying dates back to the 13th-century China when it was used as a simple means of transport.

Catch a wind and you’re moving up, down and across the surf. “It’s always exciting. You’d jump 5 feet or 35 feet. You never know if you’re going to go up in the air, and your heart is just going boom, boom, boom. ”

Coasteering

It is by far the best activity and the event that everyone is still talking about. This is exploring the coastline without worrying about a coastal path or finding a rocky bay blocking your route. You climb, dive and swim from one place to another. With coasteering, you don’t have to be able to swim as the wet suit and buoyancy (浮力) aid will keep you floating when you are in the water.

Sky Diving

Traditional parachuting (跳伞) doesn’t sound risky enough. So now sky diving is the name for jumping from a plane and listening to your heart beating heavily as you move fast towards earth before you open your parachute at the last moment.

Mountain Biking

It’s been around so long that bikers are no longer satisfied with just going up and down a mountain. Mountain biking is a sport which consists of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough land, using specially adapted mountain bikes. Mountain bikes share similarities with other bikes, but include features designed to improve strength and performance in rough areas.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了空腹锻炼在燃烧脂肪和减肥方面更有效。

7 . A new study has finally solved the problem of whether to eat breakfast before you exercise.

Researchers at the universities of Bath, Birmingham, Newcastle, and Stirling analysed the energy consumption of 12 healthy physically active men between the ages of 20 and 26. Each of the men completed three different trials: eating a breakfast of rice and milk and then resting (no exercise), eating the same breakfast two hours before cycling for 60 minutes, and finally not eating breakfast completely before doing the same 60 minutes of exercise. The study showed that fasted exercise (禁食运动) is the best for weight loss.

“These results suggest that for healthy young men a short-term energy lack may be more easily got if breakfast is worked off before exercise,” the study’s authors concluded. Here’s how it works: when you work out on an empty stomach, your body doesn’t have ready energy from food so it draws from other sources, like stored body fat, which makes your exercise more effective at burning fat—and helping you lose weight.

Additionally, exercising in a fasted state keeps your insulin (胰岛素) levels low, allowing your body to produce more growth insulin which also burns fat. “When insulin is rising—as is the case after you eat—your body will be in a state of wanting to store fat, not burn it,” Phoenyx Austin, MD, a sports medicine specialist, explained to MindBodyGreen. “It doesn’t matter if you exercise like a mad man after a meal. You won’t be able to burn body fat until insulin levels drop, which can typically take two or three hours, if not longer.”

But if you prefer eating breakfast before you exercise, don’t worry—there are benefits to be there, too. For instance, the researchers found that the men who ate breakfast first burned more carbohydrates(碳水化合物) while they worked out and sped up their metabolism(新陈代谢) for later on in the day.

1. What can we know about the 12 researched people?
A.They like exercising very much.
B.They are all young men and women.
C.They enjoy rice and milk very much.
D.They often do different trials in sports.
2. Which of the following best explains “work off” underlined in Paragraph 3?
A.Cooked.B.Prepared.C.Skipped.D.Delayed.
3. What will happen if you exercise without breakfast?
A.You will feel very hungry fast.
B.Your body will burn your fat.
C.You will exercise more madly.
D.You will feel tired more easily.
4. Which of the following will make you burn fat?
A.Keeping your insulin levels balanced.
B.Keeping your body using less insulin.
C.Letting your body produces less insulin.
D.Making your insulin levels down.
