Many people would like to watch sport matches. First, you need to know about audience manners.

Most sporting arenas (竞技场) have rules for spectators written on the back of the tickets. Read your ticket carefully before you arrive. Try to reach your seat half an hour before the start of the event and don’t leave when a game is in progress. When you leave, remember to take away your soft drink bottles and other rubbish.

During exciting games, try to control yourself. Don’t criticize the performance of players and coaches. Be careful with your words, since some may cause anger among other people in the audience.

Applause is a special form of body language you can use to communicate with players, but you should do it properly. When players first appear, clap your hands together to welcome them, but don’t go on for too long. After an excellent performance, applaud warmly. If someone fails, your applause will help encourage them.

Applause is not welcome, however, while players need to keep their concentration. Various sports have various rules for the audience.

Enjoying artistic gymnastics silence. But lots of cheering can really help basketball and football players. Snooker and table tennis courtside behavior includes a ban on flash photography. Mobile phones are not allowed in shooting centers.

To be a good spectator, you should take time to learn the game-specific rules and related culture of each event.

3 . CWA Photo Competition 2023

Over the last year, opportunities for visits to historical sites have picked up again, and photography offers a wonderful way to experience the sights of archaeology (考古学) around the world. Whether you’ve been looking back at photos from previous holidays, going out to sites near you, or busy working on archaeological projects, we want to see your best photos on a heritage theme. Send them to us for your chance to win first prize in our yearly CWA Photo Competition and have your work showed in the magazine.

The winning image and 3 runners-up will be featured in CWA and at the CA Live conference in London in 2023. The overall winner will get two free tickets to the conference.

The judges’ decision is final, and the results of prize-winners will be announced by 15 February 2023.

☆Entrants (参赛者) can offer no more than 5 images with an archaeological theme — please include details of the place or item photographed, when each image was taken, and your contact information, including a postal address.

☆Entrants must be 18 or over. The competition is open to all photographers.

Professional and nonprofessional photographs will not be judged separately.

☆All photos entered must be done under an individual’s name. By submitting (提交) images you confirm that you are the copyright holder and creator of the images.

The official mascots (吉祥物) of the 19^th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 — three sporty robots    1    (name) Congcong, Lianlian, and Chenchen —    2     (introduce) to the public at a digital launch ceremony in Hangzhou, China    3    April 3, 2020. Each represents a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the host city.

The robot Congcong represents the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City. Its name comes from the Cong jade pendant (玉琮) — a classic relic unearthed from the Ruins    4    dates back around 5000 years. The robot Lianlian represents West Lake and its name means the endless lotus (莲花)     5     (leaf) on West Lake. The robot Chenchen represents the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and it takes its name from the Gongchen Bridge, a landmark structure on    6    Hangzhou section of the Grand Canal. They stand for not only the joy of sports but the peak of     7     (culture) and economic development.

Raja Randhir Singh, the acting president of the Olympic Council of Asia, said    8    the mascots showed the smart intelligence of the modern world     9    the energy of the future. “The mascots are rich in content, combining Chinese culture, the characteristics of the city of Hangzhou, and the spirit of the Asian Games and the Asian continent.” Together, they are calling out to Asia and the world, inviting everyone    10     (meet) in Hangzhou for the Asian Games 2022.

8 . At the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar, you may have noticed this strange scene at the beginning of each game. As the soccer players line up ready to walk onto the field they take the hand of a smiling and excited child next to them and walk out with them hand in hand.

The practice of sending children out with the players first took place from time to time throughout the 1990s. One child, also called a player escort, would accompany a team out at the beginning of an important game. From the year 2000 onwards, this custom started happening much more regularly. The 2000 Euro Championships was one of the first major soccer games where children were seen walking out with the players. But it was the 2002 FIFA World Cup where it really became popular. One of the most prominent ways this happened was by pairing up each player with a child as they walked out onto the soccer field. You can see it at the beginning of most important football games. From then on, it has become commonplace around the world for children to walk out with the players.

Ultimately soccer players walk out with a child because their club requires them to. It is in the interest of the soccer club to do this as it has potential benefits for both the child and the honor of the club. Soccer is a game that is loved by children throughout the world. Many would jump at the chance to have a taste of a real game in person. It’s also a chance for soccer club to make money. Most clubs have some sort of program where it’s possible to buy the experience of being a player escort. In England, it can be extremely expensive. A few years ago it was reported that some clubs were charging almost $800 per child to be a player escort!

10 . Nowadays, in many places of the world, kids play soccer less than before.     1     Besides, many parents don’t know soccer’s real help to kids. Here are some reasons why kids should play the beautiful game.

Soccer is a team sport.

Teamwork is a life skill that kids need to learn. Being part of a team isn’t just about learning how to work together and share talents. It’s also about teaching kids how to face failure. It doesn’t end there, either. Being part of a team lets kids know how to take responsibility for their behavior.    2    

Soccer shapes motor skills (运动技能).

Nowadays, many kids prefer to stay in their rooms to have fun through TV, video games and smartphones.    3    It can cause them to lose out on valuable motor skills. By playing youth soccer, kids get a chance to develop their physical strength and motor skills.

Soccer can improve students’ concentration (专注) in the classroom. Besides, soccer is a fast-paced game, so kids can learn how to solve problems quickly. Plus, soccer is a sport which involves getting the ball from point A to point B. So kids’ visual-spatial (视觉空间) ability can be improved when they play the game, which can help them learn subjects like Physics.

Soccer improves the personal character.

The World Health Organization recommends kid get at least 60 minutes of exercises daily. This isn’t only for the physical benefits but also for the benefits to the personal character.     5     And these kids often have more self-confidence.
