1 . Some people, regardless of what they lack—money, looks, or social connections—always show with energy and confidence. Even the most doubting individuals find themselves attracted with these lovely personalities. These people are the ones you turn to for help, advice, and companionship. You just can’t get enough of them, and they leave you asking yourself, “What do they have that I don’t? What makes them so attractive?”

The difference? Their sense of self-worth comes from within. Attractive people aren’t constantly searching for value, because they’re confident enough to find it in themselves. There are certain habits they pursue every day to keep this healthy view. Since being attractive isn’t the result of dumb luck, it’s time to study the habits of attractive people so that you can use them to your benefit.

Get ready to say “hello” to a new, more attractive you. Attractive people treat everyone with respect. Whether interacting with their biggest shoppers or a server taking their drink order, attractive people are unfailingly polite and respectful. They treat every one with respect because they believe they’re no belief than anyone else.

They follow the golden rule. One person loves public recognition, while another hates being the center of attention. The golden rule is to treat others as they want to be treated. Attractive people are great at reading other people, and they adjust their behaviors and styles to make others fell comfortable.

Bringing it all together, attractive people have simply perfected certain appealing qualities and habits that anyone can adopt as their own. They think about other people more than they think about themselves, and they make other people feel liked, respected, understood and seen. Just remember: the more you focus on others, the more attractive you’ll be.

2 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

In 1992 my father bought a 1968 Pontiac GTO from a local man and began to tear the car down to the frame in order to properly restore (恢复) it. Over the next 2 years and change, he built the car back up from the frame, replacing everything that needed to be replaced. He rebuilt the engine, and cleaned everything up, and put it all back together. In the summer of 1994, the car restoration was finally completed!

In the fall of 1999, after having kid number 5, my father decided to sell the car in order to better support the family. The day that he sold this car is the very first memory that I recalled as a child. I remember the very last ride that we took in the car, on the day that it was sold. I remember the mixed expression on my father’s face. Growing up, every time that my father and I went to a car show, I was always told to keep an eye out for the GTO. It never showed up.

In the spring-summer of 2019, 20 years after it had been sold, I decided to start looking for the car. I dug up a few pictures of the car showing the old license plates, and sent them to a few cop friends to see if anything would turn up, all in vain.

I finally posted to a few more Facebook pages, and after some searching, I was able to find One Facebook page that was titled in English “GTO club Denmark”. The page had 82 members. I shared the story again, hoping that somebody would recognize the car.

Mikio Okada, one of at least nine people killed as snowstorms swept across Hokkaido, died as he tried to protect his only child Natsune against winds of up to 109 kilometers per hour in Yubetsu, Hokkaido, as temperatures fell sharply to -6℃.

Okada's body was discovered by savers looking for the pair after relatives asked for help. Natsune was wearing her father's jacket and was protected in his arms. The pair had last been heard from at 4 p. m. on Saturday, after fisherman Okada picked his daughter up from a school where she was being looked after while he was at work. 6 . The thought of low material need and being unwilling to work, marry and have children, is described as a “lying down” lifestyle recently. It creates an emotional reaction among many young Chinese who are eager to take pause to breathe in this fast-paced and highly competitive society.

Many young people complained to the Global Times that duties, including work stress, family argument and financial pressure, have pushed them “against the wall”. They said they hate the “involution (内卷)”, joking that they would rather give up some of what they have than get stuck in an endless competition against peers(同龄人).

“Instead of always following the ‘good quality’ of struggle and sacrifice to bear the stresses, they prefer a temporary(暂时的) lying down as release and adjustment,” said an expert. “It is no wonder that some young people, under the growing pressures from child-raising to paying the mortgage (按揭) today, would try to live in a simple way and leave the worries behind.”

Interestingly, the majority of young people, who claim to be big fans of the lying down philosophy, admit that they only accept a temporary lying down as a short rest. It is true that with the great improvement of living conditions, some Chinese youth have partially lost the spirit of hardship and are not willing to bear too much hard work. But in fact, lying down is not entirely comfortable. Young people who lie down always feel ashamed about their constant loss of morale (士气).

“Young people have both ambition and confusion about their future, but most of us have refused to waste opportunities and challenges,” a postgraduate student told the Global Times. “It’s no use running away. I have to ‘stand up’ and face the reality sooner or later.”

1. Which of the following is NOT a “lying down” lifestyle according to the passage?
A.Being uninterested in material enjoyment and refusing to shoulder duties.
B.Being involved in various social activities.
C.Stopping to breathe in a stressful life.
D.Giving up struggle and sacrifice.
2. What might have caused the “lying down” lifestyle among the young?
A.Poor health from working so hard.B.Increasing material wealth from families.
C.Growing pressure from family and social life.D.Temporary adjustment to failure in competitions.
3. What’s the expert’s attitude toward the “lying down” group?
A.Understanding.B.opposedC.Supportive.D.Unclear.
4. What can be inferred about the young generation from the text?
A.They would rather escape than take challenges.B.They really enjoy the “lying down” lifestyle.
C.They find their dreams far beyond their reach.D.They never really drop their responsibilities.

7 . 18-year-old Alison Sanger is an amazing student. Maybe too amazing— the book opens with Alison lying to her mother about having food poisoning so she can take a test on Shakespeare. More than getting good grades, her true motivation is to beat her opponent, Ethan Molloy.

Ethan has gone toe-to-toe with Alison on everything throughout school. They’re both honors students. They are co-vice presidents of the senior class. They both hope to get into Harvard. The fact that Ethan and Alison seem to always do everything at the same time turned into a competition a long time ago. Whoever does worse on an exam must do an unpleasant task of the winner’s choosing. If someone misses the exam, they forfeit.

This unfriendly competition is so famous that everyone at Fairview knows about it, students and staff. They’re even more annoyed by it than Alison. The principal takes matters in hand by asking the two to co-plan a previous class’s ten-year reunion after someone else dropped the ball. As you might imagine, tensions arise and passion is aroused. In a certain way, What’s Not to Love is a little like The Hunger Games. Like Katniss with Peeta, Alison is constantly evaluating her own emotions against Ethan’s supposed strategy.

While reading this book, I was forced to wonder exactly how healthy this relationship was. I assumed everyone’s intentions in the book were honorable—the authors themselves turned out all right in the end, and I’m incredibly glad for that. Wibbroka fans will not be disappointed—What’s Not to Love is story of soulmates and passion; its short chapters and tight pacing carry the reader along all the way to the satisfying conclusion. Despite its faults—which the text itself calls to attention—fans of enemies-to-lovers stories like How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days will feel right at home here.

1. Why does Alison lie to her mother?
A.To treat her food poisoning.
B.To prove that she’s also amazing.
C.To be able to be tested on schedule.
D.To please her friend with good grades.
2. What does “forfeit” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Compete.B.Withdraw.
C.Cooperate.D.Succeed.
3. How does the principal’s attempt to help the two girls end?
A.They prove their abilities separately.
B.They get the final result of their competition.
C.They set up a better relationship between them.
D.They use it as another chance to continue the competition.
4. What does the author think of the book?
A.Worth reading.B.Useless.
C.Unreasonable.D.Perfect.

8 . Who is smarter? A human being or artificial intelligence (人工智能)?

The question swept the world last week when a Google-developed program called AlphaGo defeated the world top player, South Korean Lee Se-del, 4-1.

So, what comes next?

Some people have been arguing that artificial intelligence, or AI in short, will be a bad thing for humans. In an interview with the BBC in 2014, UK scientist Stephen Hawking warned that “the development of full artificial intelligence could mean the end of the human race.”

So are we really about to live in the world shown in the Terminator movies?

“Not quite,” answered The Economist. After all, it’s not hard to get a computer program to remember and produce facts. What is hard is getting computers to use their knowledge in everyday situations.

“We think that, for the human being, things like sight and balance (视觉平衡), are natural and ordinary in our life.” Thomas Edison, founder of Motion Figures, a company that is bringing AI to boys, told the newspaper. “But for a robot, to walk up and down just like human beings requires various decisions to be made every second, and it’s really difficult to do.”

As The Economist put it, “We have a long way to go before AI can truly begin to be similar to the human brain, even though the technology can be great.”

Meanwhile, John Markoff of The New York Times said that researchers should build artificial intelligence to make people more effective.

“Our fate is in our own hands,” he wrote. “Since technology depends on the values of its creators, we can make human choices that use technology to improve the world.”

1. What was the result of the match?
A.Lee Se-del won AlphaGo 4-1.
B.Google program beat AlphaGo.
C.Lee Se-del was defeated.
D.Neither side won the match.
2. What does Thomas Edison possibly mean in his remarks?
A.AI would take the place of human beings.
B.It’s very hard for AI to beat the human brain.
C.AI can make various decisions quickly.
D.AI does better than humans in sight and balance.
3. What does the underlined part in the last paragraph imply?
A.AI is in the control of human beings.B.AI will improve the world completely.
C.AI may bring disasters to human beings.D.AI will make our future out of control.

With the rapidly development of modern science and technology, there is more and more kinds of electric cars coming into our lives and becoming popular.

Electric cars have much advantages. Firstly, they are energy-saving and environmentally friendly. We don't pollute the air because of they use electricity instead of petrol. Secondly, it is easy and safe to drive electric cars. In addition, they made little noise when they are running. Last but not least, electric cars can go at a speed of 120 kilometers a hour. And on one charge, they can go as far as 160 kilometers.

In my opinion, how our government should do is to take action to support the production of electric cars and encourage people use them. If possible, people should use electric cars in order to make our world cleaner but better in the future.
