3 . Do you know how to pick a good book you’ll really like? Here are some tips.

Start with your interest.     1    . You can pick something that you love to read, not for school. They can be ancient martial (武术) arts, computers, or fashion design. You name it, there are books about it.

Pick your type. Do you prefer fiction or nonfiction (or both)? Fiction books, like novels, can transport you to another world or help you imagine something beyond your own experience. Nonfiction books give you the who, what, when, and why of something.     2    . Many of them read like novels from start to finish.

Read the description. The reviews and quotes on the back and inside covers of many books give you an idea of what the book is about. They can also help you pick future books, too. If you find a book you really like, take a minute to read the quotes and see which authors praised the book.     3    .

Find a family favorite. Which book did your mother love best when she was at your age?     4    . Find out and give them a read — then you can share your thoughts about the book.

Find a quiet place and make time for the book.     5    . You can put on some good music, get yourself some tea and let yourself be carried away by the book. You’ll see that time does fly when you’re reading something you love!

A.How about your brothers and sisters?
B.They tell stories using facts — but that doesn’t mean they’re boring.
C.Reading is a good way to improve your English.
D.Most reading is best enjoyed when you can concentrate on it.
E.Often, they’ll have similar styles and you might find books you like by those authors, too.
F.So you should read as much as possible when you are free.
G.Reading on your own isn’t like reading for school.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。本文主要介绍了一些购买主题公园门票的建议。
4 . 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Theme park getaways are popular with families, but they sure aren’t cheap. Happily, there are some golden rules of ticket-buying that apply to pretty much every theme park, and they can help you chip away at the cost of tickets.     1    .

●Buy tickets online.

Never ever pay the walk-up ticket price at a theme park.     2    .You're guaranteed to save a significant sum-sometimes as much as $$ 20 per ticket-even for same-day tickets.

●Buy in advance.

3    .For instance, Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, slices off $$25 per ticket when you make your purchase at least three days ahead.

    4    .

This one is a universal no-brainer. Single-day ticket prices at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, are about 30 percent less than admission on Saturdays and Sundays. But the big bonus is that lines will be much shorter, allowing you to spend less time waiting in lines and more time having fun.

●Go in the afternoon.

5    .For example, Hersheypark’s sunset tickets allow entry after 4 pm or 5 pm, depending on the day. You'll still get between four to six hours of fun before the park closes, and you'll pay up to 50 percent less than the full-day ticket price.

A.Avoid weekends.
B.Buy more tickets than you need.
C.Here are some ways to lower your theme park spending.
D.At larger parks, you’ll save money when you buy a package.
E.Instead, visit the theme park website and print out your tickets before you go.
F.Some parks offer deeply discounted tickets for visitors arriving later in the day.
G.Most theme parks offer a price cut if you buy tickets at least a few days before you arrive.

7 . Most countries have their own breakfast traditions. For example, a breakfast containing bread, eggs, and coffee, is common in the United States. However, people in Japan usually have white rice and vegetable soup for breakfast.    1    In fact, in some Asian countries, breakfast does not usually mean foods that are different from other meals.European countries have their own breakfast traditions too! In Italy, people usually just eat bread and coffee.    2    And an “English breakfast” means eggs, salted meat, vegetables or fruit, and bread. It is a very large meal.In Africa, breakfast is very different across the continent.    3    In Nigeria, for example, many different tribes eat different foods for breakfast. One common thing is ground beans. In parts of Nigeria, people make a round cake from beans and cook it in oil. In other parts of Nigeria, people drink coffee. They also eat bread with butter or chocolate on it, along with fresh fruit.    4    People in Costa Rica, Central America have a meal called gallon pinto for breakfast. 文章大意:这是一篇说明文。介绍了在伦敦一些买书的地方。

8 . Londoners are great readers. They buy vast numbers of newspapers and magazines and of books — especially paperbacks(平装本), which are still comparatively cheap in spite of ever-increasing rises in the costs of printing. They still continue to buy “proper” books, too, printed on good paper and bound(装订)between hard covers.

There are many streets in London containing shops which specialize in book-selling. Perhaps the best known of these is Charring Cross Road in the very heart of London. Here bookshops of all sorts and sizes are to be found, from the celebrated one which boasts of being “the biggest bookshop in the world” to the tiny, dusty little places which seem to have been left over from Dickens’ time. Some of these shops stock(贮存), or will obtain, any kind of book, but many of them specialize in second-hand books, in art books, in foreign books, in books on philosophy, politics or any other of the myriad(无数的)subjects about which books may be written. One shop in this area specializes only in books about ballet!

Although it may be the most convenient place for Londoners to buy books, Charring Cross Road is not the cheapest. For the really cheap second-hand volumes, the collector must venture(敢于去) off the beaten track, to Farringdon Road, for example, in the East Central district of London. Here there is nothing so impressive as bookshops. Instead, the booksellers come along each morning and pour out their sacks of books onto small barrows(流动集售货车)which line the gutters(贫民窟). And the collectors, some professionals and some amateurs(业余爱好者), have been waiting for them. In places like this one can still, occasionally, pick up for a few pence an old volume that may be worth many pounds.

1. “Londoners are great readers” means that ________.
A.Londoners are great because they read a lot
B.There are a great number of readers in London

D.Londoners read a lot

A.venture in a most busy street
B.venture away from a busy street
C.take the risk of going to the beaten track
D.take the risk of wasting time to hunt them in less noticeable streets
4. The book sellers on Farringdon Road ________.
A.keep fine bookshops
B.keep only small bookshops
C.sell books on hand-carts
D.sell the same books as the bookshops on Charring Cross Road
5. The best topic for this passage is“_______”.
A.Bookshops in London
B.The biggest bookshop in the world

9 . “A rolling stone gathers no moss (苔藓),” but there is one living animal that does gather moss — the three-toed sloth(树懒) of South America. This slowest-moving member of the animal kingdom is so inactive that moss actually gathers on its body and turns it green — strange as it seems!
Most of the sloth’s life is spent motionless, hanging upside down from a limb(大树枝).   And that is the way its hair grows. Long and coarse, the strands from receptacles for the damp jungle algae(藻类)turn the brown fur a mossy green. Actually this moss helps the animal survive because it serves as a perfect camouflage against the leafy trees and hides the sloth from the jungle’s swift-moving hunters. The sloth would have little chance of survival on the ground. With long, curved claws hooded over the limb of a leafy tree, it spends the long hot hours during the day drowsing and eating. Inch by inch, it strips the leafy limbs bare and crawls slowly down the trunk to find a new dining spot, but only at night.
In addition to looking rather like a vegetable, the sloth is a strict vegetarian.   Running out of its favorite leaf is about the only thing that will make a sloth move. Then its appetite(食欲)may even force the animal into swimming a stream to reach a succulent(肉质植物). It will also force it into fighting to keep the tree all to itself. The sloth is lazy and prefers to be alone, but it will tolerate its own relatives!

D.The sloth has a brown fur of its own.
4. According to the passage, the sloth will move about when ________.
A.it senses a coming danger

Sandy is seventeen years old. And she is much busy. She never has enough time for that she wants to do. Like many other girls about her age, she spends hours on the telephone, talks to her friends. She often goes out on the weekends, and she looks after children for other families to get some money. But, of course, during the school years she herself has a lot homework to do. During the football season, Sandy is more busier than usual. She and other pretty girls are cheer leaders. They jump up and down together, cheering when the team have played well.
