With my high school life     1     (begin), I feel a little anxious right now. I hope to make a good first     2     (impression). But I wonder whether I will make friends or what if no one     3     (talk) to me.

To tell the truth, the maths class was difficult for me,     4     the teacher was kind and friendly. He told     5     (we) a funny story and every student laughed so much! You like it when people use your name, and so do other people.     5     Besides, ask them in a kind way if they have a nickname. You’d be surprised how often this may come in handy.

3 . Going from middle school to freshman year of high school is a big change.     1    

Be open to new friendships.

High school is all about experiencing new things, including new friendships. Getting to know people you haven’t met before is a great way to broaden your horizons (眼界).     2     Simply sitting with a new person at lunch can be a good way to get it started.

Explore the campus.

For most people, going off to high school means heading off to a new campus.     3     They might be able to show you around the campus, which will make you a bit more comfortable as you go on with your freshman year.

Get organized (有条理的).

High school and middle school are very different in studying.     4     You can buy a planner and spend a few minutes each night going over the notes you took in class that day. Staying on top of your studies will make it much easier to get used to high school.

6 . After years of heated debate, gray wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park. Fourteen wolves were caught in Canada and transported to the park. By last year, the Yellowstone wolf population had grown to more than 170 wolves.

Gray wolves once were seen here and there in the Yellowstone area and much of the continental United States, but they were gradually displaced by human development. By the 1920s, wolves had practically disappeared from the Yellowstone area. They went farther north into the deep forests of Canada, where there were fewer humans around.

The disappearance of the wolves had many unexpected results. Deer and elk populations — major food sources (来源) for the wolf — grew rapidly. These animals consumed large amounts of vegetation (植被), which reduced plant diversity in the park. In the absence of wolves, coyote populations also grew quickly. The coyotes killed a large percentage of the park’s red foxes, and completely drove away the park’s beavers.

As early as 1966, biologists asked the government to consider reintroducing wolves to Yellowstone Park. They hoped that wolves would be able to control the elk and coyote problems. Many farmers opposed the plan because they feared that wolves would kill their farm animals or pets.

The government spent nearly 30 years coming up with a plan to reintroduce the wolvers. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service carefully monitors and manages the wolf packs in Yellowstone. Today, the debate continues over how well the gray wolf is fitting in at Yellowstone. Elk, deer, and coyote populations are down, while beavers and red foxes have made a comeback. The Yellowstone wolf project has been a valuable experiment to help biologists decide whether to reintroduce wolves to other parts of the country as well.

Treat yourself. You can easily get tired by sitting through an hour or two of homework without stopping. Once you finish homework for a subject, take a small break (no more than 15 minutes).
