文章大意:这是一篇说明文。无论你是和你最好的朋友还是陌生人说话,尊重他们都能显示出你的善良和体贴。文章介绍了一些在生活中表达尊重的简单方法。

2 . How to Show Respect

Whether you’re talking to your best friend or a stranger, respecting them shows that you’re kind and considerate. Here are some easy ways to show respect in your life.

Listen to others.

Practice active listening to show you respect others.     1     Nod your head and ask follow-up questions to stay focused in the conversation. Even if you disagree, try to consider the point of view before responding.

Confirm (肯定) people’s opinions.

When you’re talking to someone, confirm their opinions in your own words. You can also mention their achievements to let them know you see how hard they’ve worked. You could say something like, “What you just said was really cool.     2    ” Or, “I can tell you’ve worked super hard to get your business off the ground.”

Apologize when you’re in the wrong.

It shows a great deal of maturity (成熟). If you mess up, a simple “I’m sorry” goes a long way. Try not to make excuses for yourself.     3     For example, if you forgot a deadline, you could say, “I’m really sorry. I’ll be setting reminders so this doesn’t happen again.”

    4

Stick to your word. If you commit (承诺) to an event or make plans with someone, come through on your end of the deal. Being reliable shows respect for people’s time. Have your materials in order and complete all the necessary work ahead of time.     5     It can be tough at first, but it’s better to be honest.

A.Do what you say you’ll do.
B.Just say no if you can’t commit.
C.Wait to talk instead of merely listening.
D.I can tell you’ve thought a lot about this topic.
E.Watch and be quiet when someone else is talking.
F.Excuses are useless if you want to correct your mistakes.
G.It might also be helpful to have a plan to avoid such mistakes again.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章畅想了未来在火星上的生活的样子。

3 . Some people believe that humans could live on the planet Mars by the year 2100. Our own planet, the Earth, is becoming more and more crowded and polluted. It is hoped that people could start all over again and build a better world on Mars. Here is what life there could be like.

At present, our spacecraft are too slow to carry large numbers of passengers to Mars — it would take months. With the development of technology, by the year 2100, the journey might only take about 20 minutes in spacecraft that travel at the speed of light! However, the spacecraft would travel really fast, so the journey to Mars might be quite uncomfortable. Many people would feel ill.

Humans can’t live without water, air or food. So far, nobody knows whether there would be enough water or air on Mars for people. Moreover, scientists are not sure whether plants could grow on Mars. Food would most probably be in the form of pills (药片) and would not be so tasty.

Compared with life on the earth, life on Mars would be better in some ways. People would have more space. They might live in houses with huge comfortable rooms. Also, robots would do a lot of their work so that they could have more time to relax. There would probably be no schools on Mars. Every student would study at online schools with “e-teachers”.

Life on Mars would be interesting and challenging. However, it may take hundred or years to make it true. So the most important thing we need to do now is to protect our beautiful blue planet — the Earth!

1. The underlined word “spacecraft” means ________.
A.spaceshipsB.hot-air balloonsC.space stationsD.planes
2. What would the flight to Mars be like by the year 2100?
A.Fast and enjoyable.B.Fast but uncomfortable.
C.Slow and boring.D.Slow but comfortable.
3. What can we learn from the passage?
A.There would be enough water and air on Mars for people.
B.Food on Mars would be more delicious than that on the earth.
C.People would be busy with work on Mars.
D.The writer thinks living on Mars would be full of challenges.
4. What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Schools on MarsB.Food on Mars
C.Life on MarsD.Environment on the Earth

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍“中国时尚”——国潮的兴起。

4 . The Rise of “China-chic”

Over past years, guochao, or “China-chic” has been gaining popularity among Chinese consumers. Guochao conveys the cultural heritage and values of China.     1    . “China-chic” is rising, but what is it?

The idea of guochao was first borrowed from some international brands, and began to win over Chinese consumers in 2015.     2    . In 2018, Chinese sportswear band Li-Ning presented its Wu Dao (the principles of Taoism) collection at the New York Fashion Week. It featured bright red color and Chinese characters. More brands have since followed, heralding (预示) the early period of guochao.

3    . This was a period when applications of big data, cloud computing, the Internet of Things, and 5G technology hit the market one after another. Domestic tech companies such as Huawei, Xiaomi, and DJI made headlines.

In its third stage, guochao became more common in everyday life. Over the past decade, guochao has expanded from consumer goods to experiential products. As consumers are showing greater interest in cultural identity and creativity, productions like the TV program National Treasure, and the dance show Night Banquet in Tang Dynasty Palace integrate cultural and historical elements with the latest audio-visual technologies.     4    .

Nowadays, guochao is moving to the next stage. No matter how the trend evolves, Chinese people’s positive attitude toward the country’s development and their recognition of and growing confidence in national culture won’t change.     5    . Seen from a broader perspective, guochao mirrors the rise of China, a country eager to make its presence felt globally. Guochao is a style, but more importantly, it transmits culture and values.

A.The trend grew in the following years
B.They give the viewers a totally new experience
C.The next stage saw the rise of China’s native fashion trends
D.It also expresses national pride and confidence in a new era
E.The second period of guochao mainly features hi-tech sectors
F.Its success will rely first and foremost on gaining cultural confidence
G.The concept of “Made in China” was recognized as the representation of Chinese culture

6 . While I was jumping rope, my smartphone took a fall to the floor which created cracks (裂缝) on my screen. However, the music kept playing. 30 minutes later, I could see only one-tenth of my screen while the rest was black. The next morning, I decided not to use it for 24 hours. I felt a sense of calm that day, which led to my not using it for one week. One week ended up becoming 60 days in total without my smartphone.

Here are some advantages I noticed in this challenge.

You’ll become “bored”

Without my phone, I became bored, but my mind went through all kinds of topics, Boredom (无聊) is a perfect way to create new ideas on a business or project. When you are bored, you allow your mind to relax to reach all possibilities.

You’ll be able to reduce your “work” hours

A survey found that adults checked their smartphones 85 times a day, or once every 10 minutes. As I learned in my challenge, by not having my smartphone, I fell into deep work more easily, so I completed my tasks in a shorter time.

You’ll improve your mental health

Without my phone, I avoided reading negative news and comments. While that helped make a big improvement in my mental health, the biggest reason for it was truly communicating with people. It brought me more connections with humans in the real world. I went to more dinners with friends and asked more questions to strangers.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文,作者分享了自己在新的一年里对于生活学习的规划。

7 . When someone asks me what my goals are for the coming year, I don’t usually know how to reply. Of course I, as most people do, want to see an improvement in my grades. This year, however, I’m hoping for something different.

Through the course of my school life, I’ve gradually developed a new understanding of the word “prioritization (优先次序)”. The first thing I wish to get in Senior One is the ability to manage my time better. I’ll surely become busier with the coming semester, and proper organization is important. From school clubs to academic competitions, everything should be set up in a way that doesn’t influence my health, which leads me to my second goal.

My mother has always told me put my health first, so in the future, I hope to be both physically and mentally healthy. A person can’t study without the energy to do so. In order to stay energetic, they must put their health first, no matter how busy they are, or how much work they have to complete.

And finally, I hope that I won’t be discouraged by my failure and never give up on my dreams. I hope that I’ll have the courage to try new activities and clubs. I believe my final goal can apply to every student around the world. We should all respect one another’s likes and dislikes, and focus on each other’s strengths, not our weaknesses. Everyone should try to make use of all of life’s opportunities.

Albert Einstein once said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” In my case, it’s the other way around. In order to keep moving, I must keep my balance—the balance between studies and activities, efficiency and procrastination (拖延症), academics and health, passions and dislikes. The new journey is going to be a hard one, but if I set these goals, I believe I will make it through to the end.

1. During Senior One, what does the writer want to do first?
A.Focus on improving her overall grades.
B.Join as many school clubs as possible.
C.Learn how to manage her time well.
D.Spend more time on outdoor activities.
2. What is the attitude of the writer towards failure?
A.Discouraged.B.Brave.C.Worried.D.Careful.
3. What does the underlined sentence “it’s the other way around” in the last paragraph mean?
A.It is the opposite.B.It is difficult.
C.It is necessary.D.It is helpful.
4. What is the writer’s purpose of the passage?
A.To share her goals for the coming school year.
B.To stress the importance of health to students.
C.To show what she likes about high school life.
D.To explain how to balance studies and activities.

Eat better. You don’t have to adopt some crazy diet or give up all sweets. Instead, try to eat a few more vegetables and fruits.     1     . A whole food is an ingredient in its natural state, one that comes in its own wrapper. While it’s even better to eat cuisine that is organic, locally grown or pesticide-free, start by shopping for groceries that require no packaging.

In addition, depending on your age and family history, the doctor may recommend other necessary tests or screenings.
