Katie was jumping rope on the lawn in front of her home. It was a nice day, the sun was shining warmly, and she had all the time in the world to enjoy her jumping. She felt happy. Driven by a mix of emotions, Katie chased after the boy and her heart was heavy with the loss of her treasured gift. However, as she pursued the boy, a scene unfolded (打开) before her eyes—a younger child had fallen into a nearby pond, struggling and in need of help. In that moment, Katie’s focus shifted from her stolen jump rope to the urgent need to assist the distressed child. Then she saw the boy ran to this kid hurriedly.

I turned and saw two dogs running towards me. I expected them to stop, but they didn’t. As they got closer, I could see that they were black dobermans (杜宾犬). Their teeth looked sharp, and they looked angry. There was nowhere for me to run. I tried to keep calm, but my heart was racing. They stopped a dozen feet from where I stood and kept barking. I knew they could move fast, so I didn’t want to try to run.
I kept walking, saying, “Good dog, calm down,” as peacefully as possible. But I was terrified. Then one rushed up and sunk his teeth into my leg below the knee. He held on for a few seconds. And then he came back and bit me again. The pain took my breath away as I felt his teeth in my leg. I considered bending down to get a rock to fight him off, but was nervous in case he went for my neck or the other one attacked me. I was thinking I might not get out of this alive.

He forced me to tie up my brother’s hands with the rope which he took out from his pocket. I tied up his hands but tied it in a special way so my brother could untie (解开) it himself as we often did. The man then tied my hands up and locked both of us in the kitchen.
Soon, he went upstairs to search the bedroom for something valuable. I managed to teach my brother to untie the rope on his hands. He then untied it for me. I rushed to the telephone to call the police, but the line was dead.

After that he played some video games before going to sleep. Sometimes he forgot about time and went to bed very late. No wonder he felt tired the next morning.

“Merry Christmas,” he said, smiling and picking out a handful of flowers. “How much are they?”
