1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Kristin Beale could easily have fallen into self-pity. Instead, she used life-changing injuries to fuel her creativity.

In August 2015, at the age of 18, Beale suffered a Jet Ski (水上摩托车) accident on Lake Gaston, along the Virginia-North Carolina border. She and a schoolmate were riding a Jet Sk when another ran over them, hitting Beale. She suffered a spinal cord (脊髓) injury.

Prior to the accident, Beale was an active student at college, involved in competition cheerleading and hockey. Afterwards, she had to relearn how to perform daily tasks. “When was in the hospital, doctors told my parents I would be a vegetable, and that I wouldn’t be able to breathe or swallow. I wanted to disprove everything they had on their list,” Beal said. “I told my parents, ‘I am going to work and do this.’”

Her parents discovered a facility in California for people fighting with spinal cord injuries and flew Beale there to spend four hours a day for more than a month relearning tasks and strengthening her muscles. She traveled to California nine times to work on her recovery.

To process her thoughts, Beale began writing about her experiences. By the time she finished, she had written 32 stories. She eventually gathered them into her first nonfiction book about how people react to her and how she has overcome her injuries and stays positive. “I never thought it would become a book, but that’s how it all started,” Beale said.

After the accident, her disability affected her life in some way, especially after her graduation. “For whatever reason, all my dates were bad.” she said. “Each meeting was disability-centered dating. It didn’t feel like dating; it felt like interviewing about my disability. I would open up on the dates and then never see them again. It happened over and over.” Fortunately, Beale has the distinct ability to turn everything about her into humorous and creative ones by writing books.

注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

It was a sunny morning, when Jessie sat at her desk in Mrs. Williamson’s class. They were learning about science, which Jessie normally enjoyed. However, a bird stayed outside the classroom window, which Jessie’s desk was right next to. So it caught much of Jessie’s attention.

“Jessie, are you listening?” Mrs. Williamson’s question cut in Jessie’s thoughts.

Jessie turned to her teacher. “What was that?” she asked.

The teacher frowned (皱眉), saying it was the second time that morning that she hadn’t been listening and that she was supposed to do better. Jessie’s face turned red, thinking Mrs. Williamson shouldn’t have said that to her. Jessie couldn’t help it if the bird by her desk was distracting (分心) her.

When the bell rang for a break, the teacher stopped Jessie. “I hope you will think about what I said in class,” she told her. “A rule is a rule. And it’s important for everyone to follow the rules.”

Jessie nodded to show she understood, but she didn’t really take it seriously, still thinking Mrs. Williamson was being too strict. Then she rushed outside to play ball games with other kids. They first picked teams and made the rules for the game. According to the rules, when a team got two outs, they had to go to the outfield (外场).

Jessie’s team was in the outfield first. In the game, she tried her best. Soon, the other team got two outs, and then it was Jessie’s turn to kick the ball.

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。

I'm an English self-learner. English is not my first language. Today I’m an English teacher. I like to voice that failures are not disasters. Have faith, keep moving on and never give up. You will see your hard work pay off.

I was a slow learner when I was little. Before five, I couldn't even speak in full sentences like most other children. I sound interacted with others. I neither cry nor go, nor got angry. My extreme quietness made my parents wonder if I was mentally slow. But they were not sure. Actually, I have to admit that my memories of my early childhood are quite uncertain.

When I was in elementary school, I learned very slowly and was as quiet as a doll. While my teacher was teaching, my mind often would wander outside of the classroom to the playground. The learning problems and inactive personality remained with me until I was in Grade 5. As a fifth grader, I finally started interacting with my classmates. That was the first time in my memory that I had some friends. Most amazingly, from that time on, I became talkative, laughing and playing like any normal child.

After heading full speed for my junior education, my learning situation got stuck in the mud again. In my country, students were arranged into different levels of classes based on their IQ test scores. For example, students with higher IQ scores were placed in the “outstanding class”; average ones joined the “intermediate class”, and slower students were destined for the “bottom class”. I was placed in the “bottom class” as a result of my below average IQ score. Most of my teachers taught us using easy and slow methods because they considered us unable to learn much. Despite that, I never lost faith that I might one day succeed. As if to prove that when God closes a door, he will definitely open up a big window, a miracle occurred. That's when I discovered a strong passion for English.

It was a busy day for 20-year-old Justin. His hot dog stand in the park was crowded with many customers. He was poor so he couldn’t afford to rent a cafe to sell hot dogs. Suddenly, an old woman got to his counter and asked how much a hot dog was. “They range from $3 to $7,” he replied.

“But that’s a touch expensive. I was just curious how much they cost. I don’t want any,” she said before walking away. Justin noticed she sat alone on a bench across from his stand. She kept looking in his direction, and he realized she wanted a hot dog but couldn’t afford one. He felt bad for her, so he quickly baked one and brought it to her. “I forgot to tell you that you’re my 50th customer of the day, so you get a free hot dog!” he said.

“Oh, is that so?” the old lady asked. “Thank you. I’m Emily, by the way.” She tasted it immediately and was shocked how delicious it was. “It’s different from regular hot dogs,” she said, taking another bite.

Justin said, “I love cooking, so I keep trying different things with my food. I have customers waiting for me. Have a wonderful day,” he hurried away.

The next day, when Emily returned, Justin treated her to a hot dog again. Emily refused because she didn’t have money, but he insisted (坚持). “Your feedback matters to me so I can improve my sauces (酱) and my business!” he said.

“Oh, you’re such a sweet boy,” Emily smiled through tears. “Thank you.” Deep down, Emily knew Justin was feeding her because she couldn’t afford the hot dog. She told him it wasn’t needed. But he kept feeding her every day.

One day, when Emily went to the park again, she said, “I kept a count of the hot dogs you bought me, and you’ve already spent $ 100 on me. So now it’s my turn to help you, boy. Come with me.”

This was his last chance for the day.Every homeowner on the street had run Jackson off, without even listening to him,but maybe this one would be different? Jackson rang the doorbell. Jackson answered,“I do some woodwork, painting and cabinet making. I fix small appliances and do some gardening, and my rates are very reasonable.” “Come on in,” the woman smiled, “I have a table with a wobbly (摇摆的) leg that needs fixing, and maybe you can paint my guest room?” Jackson couldn't believe his ears. The Adventurous Tour

It was a perfect hot summer day. The sky was as blue as the ocean with white soft clouds floating like cotton candy. Tom, Sam, Jack and Ron were very excited. They were best friends and were going sailing that day. Tom’s dad gave them a boat named Flying Ranger which they liked very much. Their mothers packed some delicious snacks and juice for their journey. They were like kids in a candy store and waited eagerly to set sail and begin their adventure.

They joyfully began their journey. Their boat was sailing swiftly in the wind. They saw big white birds flying overhead. Their cries echoed(回响) in the clear summer sky. The sea was calm, with small waves gently swaying. The boys joked and laughed as they controlled the boat, feeling the freedom of the open sea.

“Oh, no! Look at that large shark. It is coming towards us! Help!” Suddenly, Jack screamed. They couldn’t immediately grasp what was going on. By the time they tried to turn the boat in the other direction, it was too late. The shark bit their boat and it started sinking slowly. They jumped into the water and shivered like leaves. They shouted, “Help!” But there was no one around. Fortunately, the shark also left with the boat sinking.

Finally, they swam and reached the shore of an island. The island was vast with white sand and tall coconut trees standing like bodyguards. The boys were happily exploring the place. All of a sudden, an enormous black scorpion(蝎子) appeared. The boys were shocked and their mouths fell open. The scorpion was as huge as an elephant and looked like a big monster with its sharp nails. The big scorpion started advancing towards them. The boys were frightened and began to run for their lives. They ran as fast as deer and took shelter in an old cave.

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

When I was a kid, my parents and I lived near the forest. They often told me that our family was a team that needed to work together for the household to function smoothly. There was always an abundance of work to do — cooking, cleaning, and walking dogs. I volunteered to walk our dog, Max, who had been adopted one month before. I never dared let this giant dog off the lead (牵狗绳), just in case he took off.

One morning, we were walking along in the forest when Max started pulling on the lead. At first, I was able to hold on despite the wet ground from a recent shower. But the more I tried to stop him pulling, the more it turned into a tug of war. And thanks to the slippery ground, I lost.

Pulling his lead, Max shot off like a bullet, leaving me screaming behind. I chased him but lost my footing and fell face-first into some mud. I stumbled (踉跄) to my feet, but looking ahead, I found him running back towards me. I thought he was going to stop and give me his “Sorry” look. But instead, the dog shot past me and returned after a while.

As soon as we got home, my mother immediately attended to Max with a warm towel and a doggy treat. I thought seeing me stumbling and covered in mud, I would also get a warm cup of tea and a motherly kiss. Instead, I got a very loud lecture about letting the dog loose in the forest.

I felt frustrated. It wasn’t fair that she didn’t understand how difficult it was to control Max. I fought back, “Stop lecturing me! Why is everything my fault?” With these words, I stormed into my bedroom and slammed the door shut.

In the evening, I heard my mother call Max and take him out. It wasn’t long before I heard my mother screaming and the door opening again.

One day a friend invited me to join gymnastics class that she had belonged to for many years. My mom got the needed information and within a few days I was ready to start!

When I got there, I was extremely nervous. The group wasn’t very welcoming so I was regretting signing up. It seemed they were comfortable with the team they had, and they didn’t want anyone to be added to it. But after working together for a few days, we all soon became friends. A month passed and I learned to do many things. I was excited and ready to learn back handsprings(手翻). Back handsprings are one of the main things you need to know for gymnastics because they are done so often. In my opinion, they are the hardest to do, but I was ready to try.

My friend was the queen of back handsprings, so she helped me understand each and every step. Our coach pulled out a handspring machine to help the kids who were learning how to do them for the first time. This machine is a block that has cushion(垫子) all around it. You basically sit in the mouth of the machine and push off with your feet and go backwards until you land on your hands, then feet.

Even with the handspring machine, I couldn’t get my feet right, so I had to try again and again. Impatient, some of the girls seemed to get angry. I was feeling like the new kid in the group again. The new kid that didn’t know what she was doing but everyone else knew it!

William, a highly skilled plumber (水管工) with three decades of experience, was admired by everyone for his outstanding plumbing abilities. However, what many didn’t know was his deep love for music. Ever since he was a young boy, William was passionate about singing. He dreamed of attending a music school and becoming a famous pop singer, just like his idol Willie Nelson. He even dreamed about performing in his own private concerts someday. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when a car accident claimed the lives of both his parents, abruptly ending all his ambitions for the future. As the eldest brother in his family, William had to drop out of school and find a job to support his two younger sisters.

After three decades, William’s passion for singing remained as strong as ever. As he went about his plumbing work, he always carried a little radio with him, belting out tunes and joyfully singing along. The dull tasks of repairs became enjoyable and much more manageable with music in the background. Occasionally, when inspiration struck, he even composed a song or two of his own. In fact, he had setup a small basement studio where he recorded some of these songs, purely for the fun of it.

One day, William received a call from a client, Remus Gall, asking him to help repair the pipes in his kitchen. William accepted the mission readily. Upon arriving at Mr. Gal’s, he was led into the kitchen and began his work. As usual, while doing the repair work, he happily sang along to his small radio. Coincidentally, Remus Gall was a music producer and owner of a small recording company. Remus overheard the plumber singing and immediately realized there was something in William’s voice. He was amazed that an ordinary plumber should have such great talent in singing. After the repair work, Remus got the chance to talk with William and introduced his profession to him.

“You’ve really got a beautiful voice.” Remus said sincerely. “Have you ever thought of releasing an album of your own? If so, I would be more than glad to help you.”

10 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Mark was a 11-year-old boy. One day he was selling magazines for his school fees, walking up to a house that people rarely visited. The house was very old and shabby and the owner hardly ever came out. When he did come out, he would not say hello to his neighbors or passers-by but simply just glared at(怒视) them. It was said that the old man’s name was Henry.

Mark knocked on the door and waited, sweating due to fear of the old man. Mark’s parents told him to stay away from the house, and a lot of other neighborhood children were told the same thing by their parents.

Dusk found Mark wandering and hesitating(犹豫) what to do. As he was ready to walk away, the door slowly opened: “Why are you standing here?” the old man Henry said impatiently. Mark was very afraid but he had to sell a certain number of magazines for his school fees... So he got up the courage and said, “Uh, sir, I am selling these magazines and, uh, I was wondering if you would like to buy one from me.”

Henry just stared at Mark without saying a word. Mark could see that Henry had dog figurines(小雕像) on the shelves inside his house. “Do you collect dog figurines?” Mark asked. “Yes, I have many collections in my house. They are my family here and they are all I have.” Mark then felt sorry for Henry, as it seemed that he was a very lonely soul.

“Well, I do have a magazine here for collectors. It is perfect for you. I also have one about dogs since you like dogs so much.” Henry was ready to close the door on the boy and said, “No, boy. I don’t need any magazines of any kind, now goodbye.”

Mark was sad that he was not going to achieve his goal of selling a certain number of magazines. He was also sad for the old man being so alone in the house that he owned. Mark went home and then had an idea. He had a little dog figurine that he had got some years before from an aunt. The figurine did not mean so much to him since he had a real living dog and a large family.
