I have been studying in high school for more than two months and I really enjoy it. But sometimes I feel a bit under pressure because I find learning quite challenging. Every day I am faced with a lot of homework. It is stressful to me. Please advise!

Popularity of learning Chinese language has been growing rapidly in Cameroon, Western and Central Africa. The number of students who speak Chinese in Cameroon     1     (increase) greatly in recent years. Many Cameroonian students are     2     (interest) in learning Chinese to develop better career skills.

“We have nearly 20,000 Chinese learners, whether in primary, secondary or higher education. In all of Africa, Cameroon is the country with the     3     (high) number of Chinese language learners. We have nearly 200 secondary schools     4     can provide Chinese courses,” a Cameroonian official told Xinhua News Agency recently.

“Now four other state universities have     5     (formal) applied to offer Chinese courses. In 2008, only one state university awarded (授予) the Chinese language degree in the country,”     6     official said. He stressed that nearly 300 Cameroonians co-trained by the University of Maroua and the Confucius Institute (孔子学院) now choose     7     (teach) the Chinese language in schools nationwide.

Demand for the Chinese language is growing because Cameroonian trade with China has been skyrocketing.     8     is difficult to find someone who has learned the Chinese language is still unemployed in Cameroon, which is not the situation for other     9     (language).

After their     10     (graduate) in China, Cameroonian students choose to continue studying in China or work in Chinese-related areas in Cameroon.

4 . Here are five common mistakes distance learners make.

Choosing the wrong school.     1     “Diploma mill” schools charge unsuspecting students thousands of dollars for worthless degrees, whereas trustworthy schools are able to give their students diploma they are proud of. Before you enroll in an online school, do some research to find out what type of program, resource and support will be provided.

Putting off things. Many students never finish their degrees because they lack the self-discipline and motivation to sit down and get their work done on a daily basis.     2     Many students have found it beneficial to create a deadline for receiving their degrees and set small monthly, weekly, and daily goals that will allow them to reach that deadline.

Failing to connect with their peers and professors.     3     Building meaningful relationships with your peers and professors can allow you to learn more, stay motivated, and have a way to express your own understanding of the subject matter. So stay connected through message boards, chat rooms, email, and other virtual resources.

Scaring potential employers. More and more people are recognizing the validity (有效性) of online education.     4     Some potential employers may see warning signs if you announce that you have earned your degree through the Internet. Even if you attend a famous school, avoid calling attention to the fact that your studies are done online.

    5     There’s a lot of online material available to help out students. Make sure you know where you can get the help you need. Be aware of the general resources such as virtual dictionaries, online books, and resources that relate to your specialized subject matter.

7 . Dr. Bhuvana, a special educator and therapist, once taught at the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. During her classes, she observed that some students did not absorb the content as well as others or lacked understanding of specific topics. At times, they nodded their head but they did not actually grasp the meaning. She realized she needed to make a change instead of just sticking to the traditional teaching methods. Parents were impressed by the improvements in their slow pupils and suggested Dr. Bhuvana start a special school for such children.

Dr. Bhuvana came to the rescue of students with developmental disorders. In 1998, she opened Bridges Learning Vidyalaya to teach students with autism (自闭症) and other developmental disorders. There every child’s IQ is tested using Malin’s Intelligence Scale and classified into mild, moderate and severe groups. The school adopts unique teaching methods to impart (传授) knowledge and helps kids understand topics from a child’s perspective. The school has also trained teachers to teach the subjects in a friendly manner.

Over the past 25 years, the school has educated over 6,000 slow students, many of whom are now doctors, managers and engineers working in big companies or have important careers. Uthamanathan, the father of Suryanarayan, a student at the school, says, “My child was unwilling to go to a traditional school. His grades were low, and he failed to score beyond single-digit marks. We worried about his future. Fortunately, I learned about Dr. Bhuvana’s school and Suryanarayan was admitted into Class 4. Dr. Bhuvana chalked out a practical customized curriculum for him, which helped him develop an interest in studies. Now he is pursuing his MBA in a well-known university.

Dr. Bhuvana says, “Parents always feel they need someone like me for their children, and I feel glad that I can help them. On some occasions, the pressures at various levels make me feel upset and burdened. But when a child learns well and hugs me in return, it gives me satisfaction and confidence. I draw energy from children’s love and my passion for teaching.
