7 . Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi for a living. One night I was told to pick up a passenger at 2: 30 a.m. When I arrived at the passenger’s house, I walked to the door and knocked. “Just a minute,” answered a weak voice. After a while, the door opened. A small woman over eighty stood before me. I took her bag to the car, and then returned to help her. She took my arm and we walked slowly towards the car. She kept thanking me for my kindness.

“It’s nothing,” I told her. “I just try to treat my passengers the way that I would want my mother to be treated.” “Oh, you’re such a good man,” she said. She gave me an address, and then asked, “Could you drive me through the city?”

“It’s not a short way,” I answered quickly.

“Oh, I’m in no hurry,” she said.”I’m on my way to hospice(临终安养院). I don’t have any family left. The doctor says I can’t live very long.”
