1 . The Seine is a beautiful river which goes through France. However, the Seine has been seriously polluted. There are even laws (法律) that do not let people swim in the water. 11-year-old Raphael wants to clean the river. He wants people to swim in the Seine by 2024. That is when the city will host the Olympic Games.
Cleaning the river is a big job. Raphael fishes rubbish out of the river. He has done it nearly every weekend for the past two years. He fishes rubbish with his dad. They can catch a ton of rubbish in a single day. They have caught anything from phones to scooters (滑行艇).
Raphael learned about cleaning rivers from YouTube. In 2019, he found a video. People were fishing metal objects (金属物品) out of rivers. They used ropes (绳子) tied to magnets (磁铁). The magnet was very strong. It could attract (吸引) metal objects.
When he began, fishing for metal was just a lazy weekend activity. But Raphael soon saw just how much rubbish there was at the bottom (底部) of the river. He wanted to do more. It became like a full-time job, he said.
Last October, Raphael won an award (获奖) for his efforts (努力). He received the Medal of Paris. Raphael is confident about his progress (进步) in the last two years. A section of the Seine is clearer than the rest of the river. That is where he first started fishing for metal.
Raphael cannot clean the river alone by 2024, but he won’t give up. He hopes he is one of the first to swim in the water once it is safe.

5 . When Russell was walking out of his office after work, he remembered that his wife had called and asked him to buy some oranges home. After a short walk, he saw an old woman selling oranges. He asked her about the price. She answered, “They’re seven dollars a kilo, sir. ” Russell said, “It’s more expensive than those sold in the store, where they’re only five dollars a kilo.” “Then six dollars, sir.” she said. Russell walked away.
In the store, he was surprised to find that the oranges there were ten dollars a kilo. The clerk told him that the price had been like this for quite a while. 6 . As a teenager, you may sometimes feel lost when having problems with your parents. Chen Zanzao from Shenzhen created a charity community called Dear Theodosia to help families facing such issues. It now has 2,000 members.
Chen was inspired (激发想法) by the three-child policy. He and his friend Sina thought it could bring problems like parental favoritism (父母偏爱) and felt that most families don’t know how to deal with this.
They researched parenting and people’s needs and found that the authoritative (权威型的) parenting style, where parents are highly engaged (参与的) in their children’s lives, is most healthy for families.
“We hold discussions to promote useful information,” Chen said. During the pandemic, they held online meetings and reached audiences all over China.
In the discussions, some people felt shy about sharing their stories. Chen and Sina would do one-on-one conversations after the lecture to make sure they got help. “It’s understandable that, at first, they need time to trust us since we are young,” Chen said. “But listening is the key.”
A girl was suffering from parental favoritism and was worried that she was going to make the same mistake with her future child, Chen said. “We helped her realize that she is actually in the best position to break that tradition and parent differently. ”
Chen has realized that the three-child policy brings educational and financial (经济的) challenges. “…Many parents were saying ‘I never thought raising a child would be this difficult’, so I think it’s really important that parents think through whether they could handle the responsibility…” Chen added.
