In the year of 2020, the coronavirus(新冠病毒) broke out(爆发) all over the world. A lot of people suffered from(遭受……折磨) a fever or a cough. Don’t be afraid. Here is some advice to help you protect yourself.
Wash your hands. You need to wash your hands with soap and water before you eat, after you use the toilet, and after you touch animals, because your hands may carry viruses(病毒).
Cover your nose and mouth. When someone sneeze(打喷嚏) or coughs, the viruses can travel as fast as one meter through the air, so you’d better stand a proper distance while talking to someone who has a cold. And always cover your mouth and nose with a piece of paper when you sneeze or cough, and then clean your hands.
Wear a mask(口罩). Some doctors say that masks can stop the virus as much as 80%, but if you don’t wash your hands often, it’s no use wearing a mask. So it’s necessary to wear the mask in the groups of people.
Do sports often. Exercise will help make your body strong enough to resist(抵抗) the virus.

Cyril Dick’s house is neither a modern house nor a house of the future. It is 40 years old. There are more houses like that in the south of France. They are called “bubble(气泡) houses”, and you can see why!
Cyril Dick is a designer and he loves round things. (D) He collects old records and clocks. He also collects round furniture. And now he has a completely round house.
Everything in the “bubble house” is round. The centre of the house is one big very bubble. This is both the living room and dining room. There are round armchairs, a round table, and a big round rug (地毯) in front of a round fireplace. Around the living room are three small bubbles. One bubble is a kitchen (A) ________ round shelves, another bubble is the garden room, and the third bubble is a music room. Upstairs there are two more bubbles—a bedroom and a bathroom.
The doors and windows are also round, of course. The windows are like eyes. There aren’t any curtains (窗帘) in the house, (B) ________ Cyril likes to see the garden all the time.
Bubble houses are the idea of a Hungarian architect (建筑师), Antti Lovag. “A lot of modern houses are bad for us, especially tall buildings of flats,” says Lovag. “Because round homes are more natural, people feel happy in (C) them.” Cyril agrees with this. “Some people think my house is funny,” he says, “but for me, this is the perfect home.”

Who Influences Teenagers?
“Teenager” means people from 13 to 19 years old. Although they’re young, they have to make many important choices by themselves. They need to think about questions like these: Should I go to college? What kind of job do I want? However, other people also influence their choices. Who influences teenagers? Teenagers were asked this question and here’s what they said.
It depends on the kind of choice. When teenagers buy things, friends are the most important influence. This is especially true for clothes and music. TV shows, advertisements and parents also influence teenagers. In more serious things, parents are probably the most important influence. Some teenagers say it’s best to regard both parents and friends as influences. James, a seventeen-year-old boy says, “He’s just a crazy man,” he also says, “parents are really important because they can tell you what’s right and what’s wrong.”
But teenagers also feel they need to make their own choices. As one teenage girl said, “If our parents don’t let us make our own choices, maybe in the future we won’t know how to do it.” And they feel friends can often be a big help, especially because friends sometimes know more about their situation (处境) than their parents do.
Do you depend on parents or others when you decide what to do and how to do it? Whoever (不论谁) you depend on, the correct choice is the most important. Your future is in your hand.
1. By whom must teenagers decide many important choices?2. According to the passage, what does “Who influences teenagers?” depend on?
3. Who is the most important influence to teenagers when they buy clothes?
4. Why does James think parents are very important?
5. What choice is the most important?
The polar bear is a very big white bear. We call it the polar bear because it lives inside the Arctic Circle(北极圈) near the North Pole(北极). There are no polar bears at the South Pole.
At the North Pole there is only snow, ice and water. There is not any land. The polar bear lives in the snowy and icy world. You cannot see the polar bear clearly in the snow because its coat is yellow-white. It has a very warm coat because of the cold weather in the Arctic Circle.
The bear is 3 meters long and it weighs 450 kilos. It can stand up on its back legs because it has very wide feet. It can use its front legs as arms. The polar bear can swim 120 kilometers in the water. It catches fish and sea animals for food. It goes into the sea when it is in danger.
Some people kill the polar bear for its beautiful white coat. The governments of Canada and the United States say that no one is allowed to kill polar bears now. They don’t want all of these beautiful animals to die.

The word silk itself is beautiful. The story of silk started in China over 4, 000 years ago. One story says a silkworm’s cocoon (茧) fell into a woman’s teacup. It then opened into a single, unbroken thread (线). This was an important discovery. The Chinese learned they could use the cocoons to make cloth that was both beautiful to look at and soft to touch.
Making silk was a protected secret in China for many years. In other countries, silk was very valuable. Often it was worth more than gold. It was said that the secret was finally given away when a queen left China for India. In her hair, she secretly carried many silkworms.
By the year 1 A.D., silk was sold as far west as Rome, and all along the Silk Road. Finally, around the year 300, silk also travelled from China to Japan. In 1522, the Spanish brought silkworms to Mexico.
Today people around the world still make many beautiful things from silk. But silk isn’t only beautiful. It looks easy to break, but actually it’s very strong. For example, people have already used it to make bicycle wheels. And some doctors even use silk threads in hospital. Silk is also lightweight and warm. This makes it great for clothes like winter jackets, trousers and shoes.

Last year, at 00:23 on October 16th, the Shenzhou XIII spacecraft (宇宙飞船) rose into the sky. After flying around the earth for six months, the three astronauts of the Shenzhou XIII mission (飞行任务) returned home on April 16th, 2022. Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu successfully finished China’s longest manned (载人的) spaceflight.
Chinese astronauts get difficult training before going to space. The high-G training simulates the environment when the spacecraft takes off. Sitting in a super-fast spinning (旋转) machine, astronauts’ face muscles (肌肉) change shape. They cry tears as they spin. Blood can’t flow (流动) to their brains properly, causing a lack (缺少) of oxygen (氧气) and even blindness. Astronauts must operate the spacecraft under these conditions.
Another exhausting (使耗尽的) exercise is the underwater training which lasts (持续) seven hours each time. It simulates a weightless environment. Wang Yaping had to wear a 200-kilogram suit and do tasks in 10-meter-deep water without eating or going to the toilet.
When Chinese astronauts do the high-G training, they have a red button on hand. If they feel too sick and can’t stand it anymore, they can press it to stop the spinning machine. But for over 20 years since China set up its first astronaut team in 1998, not a single person has ever used it.
