文章大意:本文主要讲述了燃放烟花的弊端。

1 . People all love watching fireworks. But let’s stop and think about the price we pay for a few minutes of excitement.

To begin with, the amount of money we spend on fireworks is too much. The excitement is gone in a moment. What we really are doing is burning money. Yet, year after year, thousands of cities and towns spend our money on firework shows. Those tax dollars would be put into much better use feeding the hungry and housing the homeless.

Then, there is the matter of pollution. Fireworks have chemicals (化学品) that are harmful to people and animals. Over the years, these chemicals will pollute the air and the water we drink.

Next, let’s consider the rubbish left behind after a firework show. What a mess! We would expect that those who set off the fireworks would pick up the rubbish. But they don’t. The mess they leave behind shows the kind of attitude (态度) many people have towards our environment.

__________ Some fireworks can hurt your hearing, especially the fireworks used in public shows that give off a big BANG. Hearing loss costs too much to pay for. Besides all the safety warnings, we still see hurts and deaths because of fireworks. About 10,000 Americans are hurt every year by fireworks. According to the Council on Fireworks Safety, children from the ages of five to fourteen are the ones most often hurt. Those sparklers (烟花棒) cause 10% of the hurts.

In my opinion, all fireworks should be stopped selling. Public firework shows should be paid for through volunteer money, not tax dollars. Finally, those people playing with firework shows should clean up the mess they make.

1. Which of the following sentences can be put into “_________” in the fifth paragraph?
A.Finally, fireworks are dangerous.
B.Lastly, hearing is important to us.
C.Last but not least, fireworks are too expensive.
D.Fourth, there are too many kinds of fireworks.
2. What effect (影响) do fireworks have on people and the environment?
A.They do no harm to people and animals.
B.They can’t keep people safe and can bring hurts.
C.They don’t bring people a few of excitement
D.They don’t pollute the air and the water people drink.
3. Which of the following ideas would the writer agree with?
A.Public firework shows should be paid for by tax dollars.
B.A small number of harmful chemicals in fireworks are nothing to be worried about.
C.Hearing loss is a small price to pay for the excitement that fireworks provide.
D.The money people spend on fireworks should be better spent helping others.
4. What’s the writer’s purpose of writing the passage?
A.To talk about firework safety.
B.To express opinions on fireworks.
C.To describe different kinds of fireworks.
D.To talk about noise during firework shows.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了美国国家航空航天局设计的新型宇航服。

3 . More than 50 years have passed since anyone set foot on the Moon. But soon, astronauts will return there with a new type of spacesuit (宇航服). Those old ones were really heavy and didn’t fit every astronaut well, especially for women. So, NASA has to make some changes to them for the first time in 40 years.

“The astronauts will find big improvements in these spacesuits,” said NASA engineer Carly Meginnis. The new suit has more joints (关节), especially in the lower part of the body. This will offer astronauts more flexibility to perform tasks like kneeling and walking (not “rabbit jumping”) on the moon. The gloves need to be protective and allow astronauts to do work as freely as possible. The new gloves have heaters (加热器) to keep fingers warm, since fingers become the coldest parts of body in space. Also, the spacesuit has a cooling system with water moving around to take away the unwanted heat. Another change is that the new helmet (头盔) provides a better view for astronauts. It even adds lights and an HD camera inside to take clearer videos.

There are still some problems that need to be solved. For example, it still takes up to four hours to put on the spacesuit, even with the help from their partners (搭档). Moreover, scientist hope that spacesuits will be able to be designed to help astronauts work together with robots in the future.

1. NASA made changes to the spacesuit because ________.
A.the old spacesuit was too expensive to make
B.the old spacesuit was not comfortable to wear
C.NASA astronauts needed more beautiful spacesuits
D.NASA usually changes the spacesuit every 40 years
2. Which of the following is TRUE about the new spacesuit?
A.It has fewer joints in the lower part.B.There’s an HD camera outside the helmet.
C.An astronaut can put it on more easily.D.It moves unneeded heat away from the body.
3. The writer used the word “flexibility” in Paragraph 3 to talk about ________.
A.the time of exerciseB.the teamwork of astronauts
C.the easiness of movementD.the way of communication
4. What is the best title for the passage?
A.Astronauts Return To The MoonB.The Spacesuit Helps Robots
C.NASA Plans For Future Space TravelD.New Spacesuit Comes Out

文章大意:本文主要介绍了湿疹的症状、发病原因、不良影响以及治疗方法。

6 . Eczema (湿疹) is a disease which influences children and teenagers much more often than adults.

The symptoms (症状) of eczema are different among people, such as dry, itchy (发痒的) skin with redness, or sores. Eczema can happen on any part of the body, such as hands, feet, knees, face and neck. The condition can last for more than one year. Most children will not get eczema as they grow up. However, some people have eczema again when they get older. This means that they need a long-lasting treatment.

Why do people get eczema? Your genes (基因). Doctors found that if both parents have eczema, their child is 3-5 times more likely to have one as well. Meanwhile, some doctors found that kids who live in cities may have the higher possibility of getting eczema than those who live in the country. Other causes of eczema include types of soap, dry wintertime air, and some clothes that make the skin uncomfortable.

Eczema can have a large effect on a person’s life. The itchy feeling of eczema can be so serious that it keeps many patients awake at night, which makes them more tired and nervous during the day. The itchiness can also make it hard to focus on work or school. Also, if viruses get under the skin, sometimes they can cause more serious diseases. So people with eczema are more likely to get ill than people with healthy skin. Finally, people may lose confidence because of looking different.

There are plenty of ways to treat eczema or to stop it from getting worse. The most important is to make sure to use moisturizers (润肤膏) often. They moisturize the skin and prevent it from getting dry. When moisturizer does not work, doctors may tell patients to take medicines to help with eczema. If those ways can’t help patients at all, doctors will suggest other treatments like light therapy (疗法), which uses specific waves of light by machine. But if you do have eczema, avoid hot showers or baths to keep the skin from getting itchy. Remember to keep clear of some clothes like sweaters. Now you can help others learn about eczema too!

1. Eczema ________.
A.makes people’s skin wetB.needs a short-time treatment
C.influences people of all agesD.happens on certain parts of the body

文章大意:本文主要介绍了主要“点茶”艺术的历史。

7 . It’s common to see the coffee art, but have you seen the art in a cup of tea? This kind of tea art is called Dian Cha, a main tea drinking method in the Song Dynasty. The process of making it is not easy but people really enjoy Dian Cha especially because of the nice patterns on the surface of the tea.

The tea art begins with adding hot water over the fine powdered (粉末的) tea. This action creates a paste (糊状物) on the tea. Then add more water while whisking (搅动) it by hand with a bamboo whisk. It usually requires whisking about 200 times before the thick foam (泡沫) appears. Then, one can begin drawing. But drawing on the tea foam is not the same thing as drawing on the paper. One may use the hard teaspoon against the soft foam, which requires great attention. Unlike normal spoons, the teaspoon used in Dian Cha is quite thin and has a pointed end to help to draw, just like a pen.

In the Song Dynasty, many famous people regarded Dian Cha as an important free-time activity. Emperor Song Huizong even wrote a book called Treatise on Tea which included some details of tea-whisking. According to the book, good tea should be white and fine. The better the tea was, the whiter it should be, and the longer the foam should last.

In 2019, Dian Cha was listed as a cultural heritage (遗产) in Zhenjiang, China. A growing number of people now want to learn and spread this traditional skill. Han Zheming, a designer from Shanghai, has created nearly 200 images on the tea and put the process of Dian Cha online. “I want more people to understand and appreciate the beauty of Dian Cha.” Han says.

In the concerts of the festival “Encounter in Macao”, Fado is included into Chinese music, creating a new form of performance. This art form shows tourists a mixed culture of China and Western countries.

文章大意:本文介绍了冷藏箱的作用,以及这种冷藏箱是如何保持蔬果新鲜的。

9 . ①Have you ever noticed that fruits and vegetables are still fresh after a long journey? Using the right vehicle (交通工具) for transporting helps keep the quality of the fruits and vegetables. Reefers can be one of the great helpers.

②Reefers are trucks that work like a large fridge. They have a special system that is designed to help keep products fresh. The system keeps certain temperatures and controls humidity (湿度). At the same time, it lets in fresh air and lets out gases like CO2. The system has several parts.

·Control unit: Change the temperature, humidity and airing of the reefer container (集装箱).
·Interior fans: Help the air move around inside the container.
·Fresh air vent: Gases can escape through the air vent, and fresh air can flow (流动) inside the container.
·Unit evaporator: Keep the humidity at the right level inside.
·Condenser: Cool the air in the container and move it around.
These parts make reefers a good choice for transporting fruits and vegetables.

③ The reefer temperature for fruits and vegetables is one of the most important factors. It can affect their quality. But reefers only maintain the temperatures of products, not change them. You should make sure products are already at the correct temperature before loading them into the reefer container. The reefer temperature for vegetables should range between -1℃ to 13℃. Here are a few examples: carrots: 0℃; cucumbers: 10℃ to 13℃. For fruits, the proper temperature is from -1℃ to 4℃, like apples: -1℃ to 4℃; grapes: -0. 5℃ to 0℃. The reefer temperature for fruits and vegetables should be proper to provide high-quality products for markets and stores.

④ When using reefers to transport fruits and vegetables, you should know how to pack them correctly. Use boxes that allow for air to move around. Cardboard boxes and plastic bins with holes are OK. Avoid putting boxes too close to the walls of the container, or the air won’t be able to flow smoothly. Separate certain fruits and vegetables from those giving out a gas which makes them ripen faster.

1. What do we know about a reefer from the passage?
A.It’s a system to make fresh air.B.It’s a truck to transport fridges.
C.It’s a vehicle to keep products fresh.D.It’s a helper to sell fruits and vegetables.
2. Which of the following about the system is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Fresh air vent changes gases into fresh air.B.Interior fans let the air out of the container.
C.Unit evaporator can keep the container new.D.Condenser makes the air cool in the container.
3. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.What affects the reefer temperature for fruits and vegetables?
B.How does the reefer temperature change fruits and vegetables?
C.What is the proper reefer temperature for fruits and vegetables?
D.How do you know the reefer temperature for fruits and vegetables?
4. Which part of the magazine is the passage probably taken from?
A.Health.B.Traffic.C.Farming.D.Technology.
