文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要讲述了超市用了几种方法就使得顾客在购物中多花很多钱。

1 . You need some bread and milk. But half an hour later, you leave the supermarket with a trolley of food. What games do supermarkets play to make us spend so much money?

We all know memory is necessary to success in studying. How to improve memory? One way might be walking backwards.

Walking backwards, whether doing it really or imagining it, can improve the brainpower in the short term. Researchers did an interesting memory test. 114 volunteers watched a video in which a woman had her bag stolen. Then they answered 20 questions about the information in the video. Ten minutes after watching the video, then they asked the volunteers to divide into three groups. The first two groups moved forwards or backwards 10 meters while the third group stayed still on the same point. The researchers found that the backwards-walking group got two more correct answers on average than the other two groups.

When we walk backwards, everything we learn becomes strange to us. “This forces the brain to think in a different way.” Christine Weber, the researcher from US, told Forbes. It almost always means that our brain needs to be more active and able to think quickly in the short time. Naturally, our short-term memory will improve a lot.

Not only improving our memory, walking backwards also help us keep fit. Compared to walking forward, backward walking puts less pressure and needs smaller movements from the knee joints so that there will be less pain in the knees. What’s more, it is more challenging. You should use muscles and movements that you probably hardly use, making it a perfect way to change your daily exercise for greater fitness. By making people put in more effort, it burns more fat and calories. However, be careful, it will let you get hurt if you have a sore neck.

1. From the memory test, we can know ________.
A.there are three groups of volunteers before watching the video
B.the first two groups got more right answers than the third group
C.the third group didn’t move but other groups move 20 meters
D.the backwards-walking group did the best in the test
2. Which of the following is TRUE about backwards-walking?
A.It can improve our memory in the long term.
B.It can help us pay more attention to important things.
C.It can force our brain work faster and better.
D.It can help us use less muscles when we exercise.
3. When we walk forward, in which part there will be more pressure than walking backwards?
A.B.C.D.
4. The passage is mainly about ________.
A.ways to improve memory
B.advantages of walking backwards
C.ways to protect knees
D.advice for keeping fit

4 .

NASA is ready to send six little satellites into space, but it will take about three years to reach space. Those satellites can be able to help scientists keep a closer eye on heavy storms, and they develop a task called TROPICS to send the satellites to space. Importantly, the satellites will help us make a big difference in watching coming heavy storms.

At the moment, NASA’s weather satellites can only check in on a storm every four to six hours. “So we’re missing a lot of what’s happening in the storm,” Bill Blackwell, at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory, said. However, the new set of six satellites will allow researchers to check in on a storm about every hour.
After sending the satellites, scientists will put them in a perfect place to watch the areas where most storms are born, from the center of America to the south of Australia. Each satellite is just under 0. 3 meters long with a powerful machine that’s about as big as a cup of coffee. The small machine can measure heat and light produced from O₂ and H₂O in the air, then the data will be sent to the Earth.
It will bring many advantages. First, the data measured by the TROPICS satellites will help researchers study better how a storm grows. They can even build a 3 D model of a storm developing with the help of satellites. Also, scientists will know when the storm will come and get people to safety as soon as possible. Just like last year, hundreds of people died because of Storm Ida coming overnight. It won’t happen anymore.
That makes it all more important to have more eyes over the sky. “The TROPICS team is super excited to send these satellites and get them running,” Bill Blackwell said in NASA statement.
1. The new satellites can ________.
A.watch the coming storms
B.reach space in a short time
C.check in on a storm every minute
D.find a perfect place for themselves
2. These new satellites work by ________.
A.producing O₂ and H₂O in the air
B.collecting different kinds of storms
C.measuring the heat and light of the air
D.making a 3 D model of a storm growing
3. The writer mentioned Storm Ida in Paragraph 4 to show ________.
A.storms will not come any more
B.the new six satellites are important
C.it’s hard to stay away from the storm
D.scientists do much research on satellites
4. What’s the best title of the passage?
A.The Coming Great Future Life
B.TROPICS—A Wonderful Task
C.Little Satellites, Big Difference
D.Say Goodbye to Dangerous Storms

文章大意:本文介绍了什么是实时地图,以及Worldview-3卫星提供的实时、高清、详细的地球表面图片会给人们的隐私带来隐患,但与此同时又能以惊人的方式帮助人类。

9 . Imagine turning on the GPS and seeing an image of your car from above. As the car drives, the map follows along in real time, alerting you to any traffic, walkers, animals, or other things nearby. Routes and names of roads appear over the livestream. It’s like the map has come to life. The special map is called the live map.

This type of map isn’t available yet. But it could be soon. In 2014, the Worldview-3 satellite was sent into space. Even though it moves around Earth at more than 370 miles (600 km) away, it can catch images of objects on Earth that are just 10 inches (25 cm) across. For example, it can recognize a smartphone held in your hand. It can tell what types of cars are traveling down a road. But it can’t identify your face or read the cars’ license plate numbers... at least not openly.

According to some reports, some other US spy satellites can take even sharper images, with a resolution of up to around 4 inches (10 cm). But US law doesn’t allow making these super-sharp pictures public. But the idea that anybody might be able to spy on the entire Earth in such detail may seem uneasy. Ray Purdy of University College London told CNN that he was worried about what this could mean for privacy. “Most satellites are commercially owned, so if you have money you can buy that image. It means anyone can spy on anyone,” he said.

However, live and detailed maps of Earth’s surface could aid humanity in amazing ways. Satellite images can help professors follow storms as they form and record their paths. At high detail, live maps of a disaster area could quickly show the people in need of help as well as the safest routes in or out. Higher detail may make it possible to catch people who are fishing or hunting illegally. The images could also make it easier for farmers to watch over their crops.

Do you wish everyone could make use of high-detail live maps of Earth’s surface?

1. A live map can ________.
A.take control of your carsB.get animals out of the way
C.warn you of walkers nearbyD.come to life when turned on
2. Which of the statements is TRUE about the Worldview-3 satellite?
A.It flies around Earth 600 km every hour.B.It can take pictures of things about 25 cm wide.
C.It can read plate numbers of the cars on the road.D.It began to work in space more than 10 years ago.
3. The underlined word “sharper” probably means ________.
A.clearerB.longerC.quickerD.simpler
4. How does the author introduce the live map in Paragraph 3 and 4?
A.By comparing the new live map with the old map.
B.By introducing its advantages and people’s worries.
C.By showing different experiences of using the live map.
D.By interviewing a professor in University College London.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了一种在英国流行的音乐形式——grime音乐。

10 . It’s OK to say you’ve never heard of grime—unless you’re from the UK. That’s because this music was invented in the UK in the early 2000s.

To someone who’s not familiar with underground music, it’s easy to get confused* about hiphop and grime since they are both noisy. And many people didn’t try to tell them apart, until earlier this month when grime singers like Stormzy and J Hus led this year’s MOBO Awards—“Music of Black Origin”—nominations* in the UK.

Grime drew influence from UK electronic music and hiphop, and it mostly shows the thoughts of young people. But different from hiphop, grime singers sing in dialects* with strong accents*, making their songs special.

Lady Leshurr, known as the “Queen of Grime”, said that she once tried to hide her accent, as she didn’t want people to judge her. But one day, she realized that she didn’t need to change herself just to please others. And there’s no doubt that this is the most basic and important thing of grime music: be yourself.

“Also different from the hiphop style, which usually focuses on being rich, grime singers pay more attention to social issues* like the gap between the rich and poor.” Mykaell Riley, the director of the black music research unit told the BBC.

Although still quite young, grime seems to be loved by more and more people. In 2016, the English grime artist Skepta won the Mercury Prize with his album Konnichiwa, beating the famous rock music singers David Bowie and Radiohead.

However, no matter whether grime is one day accepted by the mainstream music world or not, one thing is for sure: in grime, singers always stay true to themselves.

B.it shows the thoughts of young people and pleases others
C.it has been accepted by the mainstream music world

4. The author mentions the success of Skepta to show that ________.
