1 . It is every kid’s most frightening dream and six-year-old Jaden Hayes has gone through it-twice. First, he lost his dad when he was four and then last month his mom died unexpectedly in her sleep.
“I tried and I tried and I tried to get her awake-I couldn’t,” said Jaden.
Jaden is understandably heartbroken.
But there’s another side to his sadness. He first made this side public a few weeks ago when he told his aunt, now guardian(监护人), Barbara DiCola, that he was sick and tired of seeing everyone sad all the time. And he had a plan to fix it.
“And that was the beginning of it,” said Barbara. “That’s where the adventure began.” Jaden asked his aunt Barbara to buy a bunch of little toys and bring him to downtown Savan-nah, Georgia near where he lives, so he could give them away.
“I’m trying to make people smile,” said Jaden. Jaden aims at people who aren’t already smiling and then turns their day around. He’s gone out on four different occasions now and he is always successful. Even if sometimes he doesn’t get exactly the reaction he was hoping for.
It is just so amazing to some people that a six-year-old orphan would give away a toy-ex-pecting nothing in return-except a smile.
“I’m counting on it to be 33,000,” said Jaden. When asked if he thinks he can make that goal, he answered: “I think I can.”

It was quiet, sunny afternoon. I was sitting in the garden, reading the Sunday newspaper and expected a couple of hour of peace. Then I hear a loud knock on the door. I saw about twelve ladies wearing her Sunday clothes. They said, “Well, we hope we are not late, so it is not easy to find your house.” One lady said, “Well, your husband is very kind to invite us to tea.” I thought, “My God, my husband must have been mad.” I asked for them into the house and they sat down and started talking happy. But when my husband appeared, it was quickly discovered that they could have gone to the house on the another side of the street.

Last week it was sunny. My parents and I paid visit to Datong City by train. We arrived there at about 9 o'clock and then went to an ancient temple, where they saw some impressive Budda statues. Staying there for nearly two hours, we left for the temple to go downtown. You can't imagine what crowded the street was! My parents buy some souvenirs in the local market. Meanwhile, I collected some postcards and funny toy. As we know, Datong was famous for is noodles Therefore, we couldn’t wait to tasting some delicious noodles in a restaurant decorating traditionally. At 5 o'clock, we went home happy.
8 . Since the 1970s, scientists have been searching for ways to link the brain with computers. Brain Computer Interface (BCD) technology could help people with disabilities send commands to machines.
Recently, two researchers, Jose Millan and Michele Tavella from the Federal Polytechnic School in Lausanne, Switzerland, showed a small robotic wheelchair directed by a person's thoughts.
In the laboratory, Tavella operated the wheelchair just by thinking about moving his left or right hand. He could even talk as he watched the vehicle and guided it with his thoughts.
"Our brain has billions of nerve cells. These send signals through the spinal cord(脊髓) to the muscles to give us the ability to move. But spinal cord injuries or other conditions can prevent these weak electrical signals from reaching the muscles.” Tavella says. “Our system allows disabled people to communicate with external(外部的) world and also to control devices.”
The researchers designed a special cap for the user. This head cover picks up the signals from the scalp(头皮) and sends them to a computer. The computer interprets the signals and commands the motorized wheelchair. The wheelchair also has two cameras that identify objects in its path. They help the computer react to commands from the brain.
Prof. Millan, the team leader, says scientists keep improving the computer software that in-terprets brain signals and turns them into simple commands. “The practical possibilities that BCI technology offers to disabled people can be grouped in two categories: communication, and controlling devices. One example is this wheelchair.”
He says his team has set two goals. One is testing with real patients in order to prove that this is a technology they can benefit from. And the other is to guarantee that they can use the technology over long periods of time.
