This year, something really difficult happened on February 17th. On that day, the winds blew strongly and it snowed     1     in Gansu. The snow and ice made the roads very dangerous.

Many cars couldn’t move on the     2     roads. Most of the people couldn’t go out     3     it was very hard to see anything outside. Nearly 25, 000 travelers had to stay in the     4     of Guazhou County. Among them was a 29-year-old man from Guizhou. He traveled to Gansu for vacation with     5     wife, mother and a 6-month-old baby. While they     6     in the coldness, the police found them. The policemen helped the family get off the snowy roads. Also, a family there     7     them with a warm room and hot food. What’s more, many other people helped these travelers in different ways. For example, a group of     8     helped them by giving out food and hot water. And some hotels offered     9     some free rooms for these travelers to live in. So the travelers got better care and felt much more comfortable. Even though the snowstorm beat     10     the windows outside, it didn’t stop Chinese people from coming together.

They helped each other and showed that even in the cold, they could stay closer and warm each other’s hearts.

Of all the reasons of being a volunteer, the best one might be to help others. But there are still many other reasons. Maybe you always love animals.     1     maybe you want to share your success and joy with others. Volunteering gives you a way to share all of these with others. Another great     2     is that volunteering can help with your future job. Now many employers (雇主) care     3     how many volunteer experiences you have. While volunteering you can also learn many things about teamwork and communication.     4     having fun is also a good reason to volunteer. People may volunteer for different reasons, but they will always get more     5     they expect.

Although my seven-day experience as a volunteer teacher in Guilin, Guangxi, has come to an end, I can still see those     1     but cute kids sometimes in my dreams.

When my classmates and I first arrived in Guilin, we rode in a crowded minibus along dangerous roads     2     to a house in Yuanbaoshan Forest Park. That night we worked together     3     the lessons for the students we were about to welcome.

On the first day, we went to a primary school. There the students were already sitting in their chairs waiting for us. Our group was teaching students     4     were in 3rd and 4th grade. They were very curious about everything. After simple icebreakers (寒暄), we all got along very well.

The following days were filled with lessons, including sports, ancient poetry and math. Among them, PE    5     by every one of them. One lesson that stood out was when I taught     6     how to play basketball.

As soon as I mentioned that we would play basketball that day, their     7     filled the room. I began by explaining the basic rules and     8     of the game, such as dribbling (控球), passing and shooting. Every student took part in the game happily, determined to improve themselves.

Since the experience, I     9     that being a teacher is about more than just giving lessons: It’s about teaching values, helping kids grow and encouraging them to be a     10     person than before. It’s a big responsibility, but one that I’m grateful for and will always remember.
