Spring Clean-up Day, Rockland It’s the best way to welcome spring and to help to clean up the town we all live in! Here in Rockland we have a Spring Clean-up Day every year in May. Spring Clean-up Day this year will be on May 20th. It will start with a town clean-up at 8 o’clock in the morning, and a tree planting activity in Rockland Park is to follow in the afternoon. One thousand young trees are sure to make it greener and prettier. We will divide the people coming to help into eight teams for eight different areas. As usual, we will provide gloves, rubbish bags and other cleaning tools. You will also get free lunches and T-shirts when the clean-up ends at noon. We are going to have a competition to see which team can pick up the most rubbish. Bring your kids with you. It is a great chance to teach them to care about the environment around us. We have free drinks and chocolate candies for the children. Two places to meet: At the gate of Rockland Park, or at the corner of Palace Street and North Street. Sign-up (报名): Call 5862397 on weekdays, or visit our website below any time you like. www.springcleanup.com |

6 . Are you looking for something fun? Would you like to help others in your spare time? Then join us to be a volunteer! We’re a non-profit (非营利的) organization (组织). We have volunteer jobs of all ages. Anyone, from twelve-year-old children to people in their seventies, can become a volunteer.
You can help people in many ways. Schools need help in taking care of children while their parents are working. Hospitals need volunteers to look after children while their parents are seeing a doctor. Animal lovers can help take care of those dogs and cats without homes. There is something for everyone.
“As a volunteer, I don’t want to get anything. Seeing the children’s happy faces, and I’m happy, too.” said Carlos Domingo, an old woman of 62. “I often played computer games in my spare time before. Now I help older people learn how to use computers,” said another volunteer at the age of 18.
If everyone helps out a bit, we’ll have a better world to live in. Interested? Call us at 555 - 5756 or visit our website: www.activol.com.
