It is not an easy job to work as a volunteer. Liu Junyu, 28, from the team (设计) the routes (路线) to help people get in and out more easily and safely. Other volunteers helped clear 50,000 square meters of ice and snow each day. This made sure that the games worked well.
Also, a volunteer needs to learn a lot. Volunteers needed to know all about the games. They also kept in mind the history and stories behind them. “People say volunteering is about giving, but I got a lot from helping others, that is valuable experience.” Said a volunteer.

5 . Ye Tingting, a student from Zhejiang University, has just had a truly unforgettable summer vacation. Early in August, she traveled all the way from Hangzhou in Zhejiang province with other 14 university students, to a village school in Dali in Yunnan province.
They were volunteers on a two-week summer camp for teenage girls of the community. They organized many activities including gender (性别) education sessions (课程), music workshops, storytelling classes and sports classes, and spent their days with the young learners. Before Ye and her fellow volunteers arrived in Yunnan, they had lots of training to prepare. “At first, I was too afraid to speak up in front of people, but after the training sessions, something changed,” she said. “I’ve now found my confidence. ”
During the summer holiday, 22 schools were turned into campsites as part of the Boundless Girls project, attracting (吸引) more than 300 university students from across the country to volunteer. The summer camp in Dali was part of the project, Boundless Girls. It aims to encourage more teenage girls to do sports.
Around 160,000 students from 700 primary schools across the country have benefited from the Boundless Girls project since it was started by the sportswear giant Nike, on March 8, 2019. “We provided schools with things about girls’ sports. All of these things were aimed at helping girls unleash their potential (释放她们的潜能) through physical activities,” said Xu Lin from Nike. Xu added that the company plans to build 100 Nike Grind courts around China by 2030.

9 . Yan Mingyou is 94 years old, but he still works as a music teacher in Anhui Province.
Yan is from a small town of Anhui. He worked there as a rural (乡村的) music teacher for about 40 years. In 1990, he retired. But after he learned some rural schools were short of music teachers, he decided to go on teaching. To make his lessons more interesting, Yan started to learn to play the piano in 2006 when he was 77 years old. At the age of 80, Yan felt that he was too old to teach music. But the children wanted him to stay. “Students wanted me to teach music. So I decided to go on teaching.” Yan said.
He doesn’t stop there. Yan also uses some of his money to help students in need. Liu Dandan is one of the students he helped. About ten years ago, Liu, then a student in Grade 5, had to stop schooling because her family didn’t have enough money. When Yan heard about that he helped the girl. “I try my best to help children in need,” the old man said.
“I feel happy to teach music,” Yan said. “For children in rural schools, music is a way to help them make their dreams come true.”

We are a non-profit organization (非盈利性组织). We have volunteer jobs for people of all ages. Anyone, from twelve-year-old children to people in their 70s, can become a volunteer.
You can help many people in many ways. Schools need help with taking care of children when their parents are working. Hospitals need volunteers to look after children when their parents see a doctor. Animal lovers can help take care of those dogs and cats without homes. There is something for everyone.
“As a volunteer, I don’t want to get anything. Seeing the children’s happy faces, I am happy, too.” says Carlos Domingo, an old woman of 62. “I often played computer games in my free time before. Now I help older people learn how to use computers,” said another volunteer at the age of 18.
