1 . Xi'an celebrated the first-ever China Hanfu Day on April 18. There were shows which were held by people wearing traditional Chinese clothing—Hanfu. Hanfu fans from all over China gathered there to take photos and put them online for a Hanfu photo coopetition which lasted until May 18.
China Hanfu Day is in the third month of the Chinese lunar calendar(农历), which is said to be the birthday of the Yellow Emperor. In ancient China, this day was also called Shangsi Festival(上巳节). Its purpose is to encourage young Chinese to take pride in traditional clothing.
Hanfu is the traditional clothing of the Han people who lived in China before the Qing Dynasty. It has a history of about 3,000 years. And it has changed greatly so far. However, some of its main characteristics(特点) remain. For example, there are two parts that overlap(交叠) on the front, which is called "jiao ling". Another main characteristic of Hanfu is that it usually uses ribbons(系带) instead of buttons.
China is becoming a leading country in the world, so the Chinese people feel more confident about Chinese traditional culture than ever before.

4 . London Bridge is between the City of London and Southward. It is between Cannon Street Railway Bridge and Tower Bridge. London's original bridge made this one of the most famous bridge in the world.
The first London Bridge is thought to have been built by the Romans sometime in the first century, with several rebuild over the centuries. In the end, wooden bridges were replaced (代替) with a stone bridge, the first one being started in 1176 and finished years later. During its whole history, London bridge has been a busy thoroughfare (通道) and was once lined with shops. The road over the bridge was only about 4 meters wide between the shops. It was not wide enough and it was often crowded with people, horses and cars. In 1773 a keep left rule was enforced (强制执行) to keep the traffic moving. This became the rule of the road in Britain.
In 1757 the houses and shops on the bridge were pulled down. A new bridge was built in 1831 to replace the old one. This in turn was pulled down in 1967 and rebuilt in Lake Havasu City, USA, as a tourist attraction. The present London Bridge opened in 1973.

5 . One day Madison's teacher found her sitting alone at lunch, looking sad and upset. She could hardly eat the butter sandwich that she usually couldn't wait to eat. "What's the matter, Madison?" the teacher asked. Later that afternoon, Trey was standing alone by the basketball court after school. Trey's mom asked him why he didn't go to play with Zack and Steve, who were shooting hoops. He told his mom that he just didn't feel like it, so they walked home.
But the truth was that Trey and Madison were facing the same problem: They both felt left out, and their feelings were hurt, they felt lonely.
Madison was so sad that he didn't want to eat, and Trey was so mad that when he got home he slammed his bedroom door. The kids who had been their friends before weren't their friends all that time.
What can you do if you're feeling lonely? Let's read some kids' advice on how to deal with loneliness.
"Take something to school and if someone asks to play with you, say yes. They might ask you to play with them next time." (Caleb)
"Listen to music or learn to play an instrument." (Rizwan)
"Help mom or Dad to do jobs. You'll have someone to talk to and you'll learn how to do things when you grow up" (Natalia)
"Talk about it with other people who do the same things, and then you can be friends" (Sean)
1. How did Madison look at lunchtime?2. What was Trey doing while his friends were playing basketball?
3. What was the problem that both Madison and Trey were facing?
4. By whom are the pieces of advice given?

6 . Many of us don’t pay much attention to the importance of eye care. It is said that if you take care of your body, then you can surely be healthy. That is why our eyes should be given a lot of care. Natural eye care should be put in a number one place.
There are several causes leading to poor eyesight like not enough food, genes(基因) and aging(老化). Televisions, computers and reading are also the causes of having poor eyesight. If you happen to work in front of the computer, it is best to take a break every once in a while. Something dirty can cause redness and they will make you uncomfortable. It is bad for your eyes, too. If this happens, the best way is to clean your eyes by using cold water. You must also try your best to protect your eyes from harmful things. For example, sunglasses are not just for fashion but they can also serve as a great way to protect your eye-sight from UV rays.
Eating healthy foods will do good to your eyesight. Remember that vitamin A, C and E are good for eyes. Try to eat food groups that have these vitamins. And you should do eye exercises because exercise protects your eyesight, too. If a person exercises regularly(定期的) and eats the right kind of food, his eyes will stay in good condition(状况) for a long time.
All above are natural ways of eye care that help us keep healthy eyes. Being happy all the time can be helpful to a person’s eyesight, too. In a word, eye care is very important, no matter how old a person is.

7 . Passage 4
You may know about "junk food" like French fries. But do you know about "junk sleep"?
Recently, a British survey found that electronic products in teenagers' bedrooms are affecting their sleep.
The survey was done among 1 000 British kids aged 12 to 16. It found that 30 percent of them got just 4 to 7 hours sleep every day. But experts say they need 8 to 9 hours.
Almost a quarter of the kids said they fell asleep more than once a week while watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products.
"This is very worrying," said Dr Chris Idzikowski, a British expert. "We call it 'junk sleep'. It means you don't get enough sleep and the quality of the sleep is bad too. If you don't get good rest, you don't perform well in school the next day." The survey found that 40 percent of the kids felt tired each day, with girls aged 15 to 16 feeling the worst.
Nearly all the teenagers have a phone, MP4 or TV in their bedroom. And around two-thirds of them have all three.

8 . Passage 3
There are many useful inventions in the world. Have you ever wished to have an umbrella that makes your hands free? Alan Kaufman has thought up the “Nubrella”, which means “new”+ “umbrella”. It is the first truly hands-free umbrella in the world. The inventor says that it stops rain, wind and snow and can keep your head, face and hair dry.
“I never planned to invent a product. I just noticed a problem and thought up a solution,” said the inventor. The idea for the invention began on one rainy day. Mr Kaufman was standing in one of his stores. He began to look at people’s umbrellas. He found that they had to try very hard to keep their umbrellas in the right place. At that moment an idea came into his mind. He ran to his desk and drew a picture. In this way, the Nubrella was born. One cool feature of the Nubrella is that you don’t hold it like a usual umbrella, you wear it. The shoulder straps(肩带) of the Nubrella allow people to be fully hands-free, so when walking in the rain with the Nubrella, you are able to use your cell phone or drink a hot cup of coffee. Also, the Nubrella will never be inverted(颠倒) in the wind. The new umbrella is far safer than traditional ones, because it has no sharp points.

9 . A new report says promising children money to pass exams does not help their exam grades. It could be a waste of money using cash to get kids to study more. However, the promise of a trip could encourage students to try harder and do better at school. Scientists looked at how promises of money and tickets to shows affected students’ studying and learning. Over 10, 000 pupils took part in the survey in 2016. There was an improvement in homework, but this did not result in better test scores.
Lead researcher Dr Simon Burgess thought the survey showed something important and interesting. He said it had not found something that really got students to work harder. He added that, “Clearly, some pupils have a lot of goals and believe that education is very important in life, but there are kids who think that working hard doesn’t make a difference. He said these children think exam success is “all in your genes(基因)” because of their family background.
Education expert Dr Kevan Collins said good teachers were better than promises of rewards to get children to study, especially for children from low-income families. He wrote, “What really makes difference is how students are taught.”
1. According to the report, we can know that _________.A.promising children money isn’t helpful for their exam grades |

10 . Big data (数据) is a lot of sets of information that are put together so they can be used by a computer program. The computer program looks for different kinds of answers or patterns in the data. Big data can have different kinds of information from many sources, such as information that comes from schools, social media sites, companies and governments. One set of data can have people’s names and addresses. Another set can have what they like, where they go to school, and how much time they spend on the computer.
Big data can be used in many ways. The government uses it to understand how many people travel on buses or trains. This information is then used to make bus or train systems better. Some schools use big data to understand which children may need extra help in class. The teacher can then give certain students more help or support so those students can succeed in school. Companies use big data, too. It helps them understand who buys their products. For example, one company uses weather data to see when people eat the most ice cream.
Big data can be used for good reasons. Some hospitals use big data to predict if a baby who is born too early will get sick. The hospital can then take extra steps to take care of that baby so he or she does not get sick. Big data can also be used for bad reasons. It can be used to predict which kinds of people are likely to break the law or hurt others, even if they have not done anything wrong.
How can big data be used for good and bad thing? It is because the computer programs are written by people. People think in a certain way, and they build a model of those ideas. These ideas are then used to look at the data. Sometimes, these ideas are helpful for people or businesses. Other times, bad ideas can cause problems for certain groups of people.
1. Big data can have different kinds of information from many sources. Information that comes from ____________ is not mentioned (提及) in this passage.A.schools | B.governments | C.police stations | D.hospitals |
