文章大意:本文介绍了什么是实时地图,以及Worldview-3卫星提供的实时、高清、详细的地球表面图片会给人们的隐私带来隐患,但与此同时又能以惊人的方式帮助人类。

4 . Imagine turning on the GPS and seeing an image of your car from above. As the car drives, the map follows along in real time, alerting you to any traffic, walkers, animals, or other things nearby. Routes and names of roads appear over the livestream. It’s like the map has come to life. The special map is called the live map.

This type of map isn’t available yet. But it could be soon. In 2014, the Worldview-3 satellite was sent into space. Even though it moves around Earth at more than 370 miles (600 km) away, it can catch images of objects on Earth that are just 10 inches (25 cm) across. For example, it can recognize a smartphone held in your hand. It can tell what types of cars are traveling down a road. But it can’t identify your face or read the cars’ license plate numbers... at least not openly.

According to some reports, some other US spy satellites can take even sharper images, with a resolution of up to around 4 inches (10 cm). But US law doesn’t allow making these super-sharp pictures public. But the idea that anybody might be able to spy on the entire Earth in such detail may seem uneasy. Ray Purdy of University College London told CNN that he was worried about what this could mean for privacy. “Most satellites are commercially owned, so if you have money you can buy that image. It means anyone can spy on anyone,” he said.

However, live and detailed maps of Earth’s surface could aid humanity in amazing ways. Satellite images can help professors follow storms as they form and record their paths. At high detail, live maps of a disaster area could quickly show the people in need of help as well as the safest routes in or out. Higher detail may make it possible to catch people who are fishing or hunting illegally. The images could also make it easier for farmers to watch over their crops.

Do you wish everyone could make use of high-detail live maps of Earth’s surface?

1. A live map can ________.
A.take control of your carsB.get animals out of the way
C.warn you of walkers nearbyD.come to life when turned on
2. Which of the statements is TRUE about the Worldview-3 satellite?
A.It flies around Earth 600 km every hour.B.It can take pictures of things about 25 cm wide.
C.It can read plate numbers of the cars on the road.D.It began to work in space more than 10 years ago.
3. The underlined word “sharper” probably means ________.
A.clearerB.longerC.quickerD.simpler
4. How does the author introduce the live map in Paragraph 3 and 4?
A.By comparing the new live map with the old map.
B.By introducing its advantages and people’s worries.
C.By showing different experiences of using the live map.
D.By interviewing a professor in University College London.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了一种在英国流行的音乐形式——grime音乐。

5 . It’s OK to say you’ve never heard of grime—unless you’re from the UK. That’s because this music was invented in the UK in the early 2000s.

To someone who’s not familiar with underground music, it’s easy to get confused* about hiphop and grime since they are both noisy. And many people didn’t try to tell them apart, until earlier this month when grime singers like Stormzy and J Hus led this year’s MOBO Awards—“Music of Black Origin”—nominations* in the UK.

Grime drew influence from UK electronic music and hiphop, and it mostly shows the thoughts of young people. But different from hiphop, grime singers sing in dialects* with strong accents*, making their songs special.

Lady Leshurr, known as the “Queen of Grime”, said that she once tried to hide her accent, as she didn’t want people to judge her. But one day, she realized that she didn’t need to change herself just to please others. And there’s no doubt that this is the most basic and important thing of grime music: be yourself.

“Also different from the hiphop style, which usually focuses on being rich, grime singers pay more attention to social issues* like the gap between the rich and poor.” Mykaell Riley, the director of the black music research unit told the BBC.

Although still quite young, grime seems to be loved by more and more people. In 2016, the English grime artist Skepta won the Mercury Prize with his album Konnichiwa, beating the famous rock music singers David Bowie and Radiohead.

However, no matter whether grime is one day accepted by the mainstream music world or not, one thing is for sure: in grime, singers always stay true to themselves.

2. Which of the following is famous for grime music?
A.Lady LeshurrB.RadioheadC.David BowieD.Mykaell Riley

A.it is the most basic and important kind of music
B.it shows the thoughts of young people and pleases others
C.it has been accepted by the mainstream music world
D.it is sung in dialects and focuses on social issues
4. The author mentions the success of Skepta to show that ________.
A.rock music is not popular any moreB.grime is still a quite young music type
C.grime is getting more and more popularD.grime singers always stay true to themselves

7 .

Have you ever heard about the whitest paint in the world? In September 2021, researchers at Purdue University in the US, had invented a paint that received a Guinness World Records for being the whitest in the world. But that isn’t the paint’s only special quality (特征).

The paint is developed by professor Xiulin Ruan and his team. It is so white that it could reduce (减少) the need for air conditioners. It works through a cooling technology that offers great promises to reduce space cooling cost and global (全球的) warming. “When we started this project seven years ago, we had saved energy and fought climate (气候) change in mind.” Ruan said in This Is Purdue. They wanted to invent a paint that would reflect (反射) sunlight away from a building, largely reducing the need for air conditioners.

In a report written by Ruan’s team, the researchers explain the white paint reflects up to 98.1% of sunlight, and sends infrared heat (红外线热) away from its surface (表面) at the same time. The paint takes in less heat from the sun than it gives out, so the outside of an object covered with this paint is cooled below surrounding (周围的) temperature without so much air conditioning. However, other paints get warmer rather than cooler. They reflect only 80%-90% of sunlight and do not have special qualities to make the outside of objects cooler than their surroundings.

“If you were to use this paint to cover a roof (屋顶) area of about 1,000 square feet, we think that you could get a cooling power of 10 kilowatts. That’s more powerful than the central air conditioners used by most houses, ”Ruan told in This Is Purdue. In other words, ______. The paint will probably help buildings depend less on air conditioning systems that are the cause of a part of the global warming.

You can’t buy the paint just yet, but researchers are working with a company to put the paint on the market. Someday we could cool our homes simply by painting our roofs with the whitest paint and it could help fight against climate change.

1. What is known about the paint?
A.It has different colors.B.It uses heating technology.
C.It is friendly to environment.D.It doesn’t cost much money.
2. What does the paint do to the objects with it?
A.It makes the objects warm.B.It cools the surface of the objects.
C.The objects reflect half of sunlight.D.The objects take in infrared heat.
3. Which of the sentences below can be put into ______ in paragraph 4?
A.it’s much cheaper to use this paint than air conditioners
B.using air conditioners too much can cause global warming
C.scientists need to improve this paint to solve more problems
D.this paint could take the place of air conditioners in some places
4. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To introduce a special paint.
B.To advise people to cool homes.
C.To tell the use of air conditioners.
D.To share reasons of climate change.

A different kind of school in Pakistan is giving poor children, and even their mothers and grandmothers, a new chance to get an education (教育).

The programme is called Street to School. It is a way to keep these children off the streets, while providing them with a basic education and useful life skills. Organizers started it in 2014 to set up a school for children who played on the streets every day while their parents were working.
