2 . Let’s read something about the history of three kinds of traditional Chinese clothes.

The qipao is developed from the long dress worn by Manchu (满族) women during the Qing Dynasty. The Manchu people were also known as Qi people, so the dress was called qipao. Now it has been developed into many styles. There are differences in colors, materials and designs. For example, Beijing’s style is more traditional than Shanghai’s style.

The Tang suit is developed from the clothes worn by Manchu men during the Qing Dynasty. Its name came from the overseas Chinese. As the Tang Dynasty was famous for being powerful in the world, foreigners called the overseas Chinese the “Tang people” and the clothes they wore were called the “Tang suit”. It usually has Chinese characters “福” or “囍” on it to express good luck or best wishes.

The Zhongshan suit is a type of men’s jacket. It was first advocated (倡导) by Sun Zhongshan. The design connects traditional Chinese styles with Western clothing styles. It has a few pockets on the front, two up and two down, which are equally (均等地) put left and right. The colors of Zhongshan suits are different, but usually plain (朴素的), including black, white, blue and grey. They are not bright.

6 . How to prepare for an exam is a big question that you always ask yourself. Here are some tips that may help you.

Never fear or hate exams and be confident. Some students study well but still may be much afraid of exams and due to this reason they get upset and won’t be able to get high marks.     1     You have to be confident and it is of great help for you to gain success.

Prepare a good timetable.

Prepare a timetable before starting the study.     2     Difficult subjects can be given more time and easier ones less, but most importantly you should spare some time for rest.

Select a proper atmosphere for studying.

Studying atmosphere plays a very important role.     3     So pick a place where you feel comfortable. That is where you feel relaxed and can pay attention to what you are doing. Make sure that while you are studying a subject you are focusing on it only. So keep the books of other subjects away from your eyesight so that you won’t be upset about all the things you have to learn.

Make notes while studying.

This is a very important point. While studying, make small notes. The note should be short and clear to make the review easier.     4     Yet don’t try to cover everything in it. Sleep well and eat well.

On the night before an exam you have to sleep well, at least 6 hours and not more than 8 hours. Remember this will have a great effect on your exam. And have your food as in your daily diet.

7 . Most foreigners go to the Great Wall for their first visit to China. But I have never wanted to follow the crowd. On my friend’s advice, I picked one of the country’s natural treasures:Tiger Leaping Gorge (虎跳峡)in Yunnan Province.

To discover its real beauty, I decided to hike in the gorge. The hike was tiring. However, it was one of the most memorable (难忘的) trips ever.

The first part of my hike was to run through green wheat fields. At this point, it was easy to enjoy the view and take photos.

After these bends, the hike became easier. Most people ended their first-day hike at a halfway hotel in the early evening, just in time for a beautiful sunset. As another hiker said, “It was a perfect ‘postcard’.”

The second day was less tiring. I walked slowly across a bamboo forest that led to a small riverside. There were many streams. A waterfall was flowing directly over the road. In the early afternoon, I reached the end of the hike.

Most of Greenland (格陵兰岛) is white because it’s covered with snow and ice, which is different from what its called. A special canyon (峡谷) was found there.

    1     Under all that snow and ice lies a rocky world. And the Greenland Grand Canyon is there.

In 2013, a group of scientists was studying the environment in Greenland. They were using special tools to look for the rocks deep below the ice.     2     The canyon starts in the central part of the island and runs north to the Arctic Ocean (北冰洋).

The canyon runs for at least 750 kilometers and is 800 meters deep. It is longer than any other canyon on Earth and is nearly as deep as the Grand Canyon in the United States.     3    

How was Greenland’s Grand Canyon formed? There are two possible ways. The first is that the canyon was formed by huge ice. When ice slowly moved across the land, it cut its surface and created deep holes.     4     For the last two million years, the world temperatures have gone up and down many times. When they go up, a lot of water melt (融化) from Greenland’s ice and flows into the ocean. The plenty of water formed the long deep canyon.

The discovery of Greenland’s icy Grand Canyon is quite surprising. The canyon also helps scientists understand the history of Greenland.
