2 .
London is the capital of England and is one of the most famous cities in Europe. It has many fantastic sights, such as Big Ben and London Bridge. Besides, there are more than 170 museums there.
I was only in London for one gray day, so I was in a hurry. My tour started at a building known as the Cheese Grater. Its a new building and was completed in 2010. It has a height of 225m. We took the lift right to the top. It is the fastest lift in Europe. It took just 30 seconds to go all the way up to the 45th floor.
Next, we walked just a few blocks to The Gherkin. It really does look like a cucumber of a different size! It’s 180m tall and has 41 floors. It was built in 2003.
Our next stop was Tower Bridge. It was built from 1886 to 1894 and looks old. It has a height of 54m, and a length of 244m. We walked on it to cross the river to get to our next destination: The Shard.
The Shard is the tallest building in the United Kingdom. It was opened in 2009. It cost 435 million pounds to build. It’s just under 310m tall and has 96 floors. There is a place where you can look at the view on the 72nd floor.
St. Paul’s Cathedral is on the other side of the river. It was started in 1256! It has survived several wars. It is 158m long and 111m tall. It is old and really beautiful. Unfortunately, the rainy weather put a sudden end to our tour.

3 . When was it that something made you stop, take a good look and get lost in thought? For me, it was last Sunday. My friend invited me to a European art exhibition in Shanghai.
To be honest, I’m not interested in art paintings at all. I know very little about European art. So, at first, I refused to go to the exhibition. But finally I became excited to see the artworks of the famous artists like Monet (莫奈) and Van Gogh (梵高). The exhibition included 52 artworks. It was really a different experience to see them face to face.
My friend was happy to see so many different painting styles in one place. The visit made her remember the trip to Paris several years ago. She told me that art could be found in every corner of the city.
Most of the visitors, I thought, had limited (有限的) knowledge about art, too. They were just busy taking pictures, and then showed everyone on WeChat that they had been there. Under the influence of my friend, who is an art lover, I began to look at the paintings carefully. One painting that moved me most was Van Gogh’s Long Grass With Butterflies. Those things such as grass, butterflies were quite common in my life. However, I had never thought they were worth attention. I had usually followed the crowd to see what was “special”. Actually, we should pay more attention to the “common” things around us.
Sometimes we are supposed to have a careful look, think for a while, then we will find the beauty in our life.

4 . A few weeks ago, I got $120 from a friend in a Smile Group. He asked me to do good things with the money. Since then I have used the money to help strangers, and raised a lot of smiles.
One day I was in a shop, looking at the second-hand books. It happened that the bookshelves were next to the toy section. Later I noticed a poorly dressed woman standing behind me. A little girl about 3 years old came over to the toy section. Immediately her attention was caught by a toy pram (婴儿车). She spoke to her mother and her mother asked the shop assistant how much it cost. The answer was three pounds—about five dollars.
Then she said “no”. The child said nothing. Maybe “no” was not new for her but she couldn’t keep the disappointment from her face.
I had a total of four pounds, two two-pound coins. A moment later I put the money in the mother’s hand and said, “Buy her a dolly too.”
I didn’t wait to see the end. I walked out of the shop and went into the sunshine.
The money the friend gave me was to help me find happiness in the world. Was there any better way to get so much happiness with so little money?
