1 . Yoga has a well-deserved reputation for helping improve balance and flexibility and for inducing calm and relaxation. But as for weight loss, many people assume other types of exercise will benefit more. While you might not burn as many calories by practicing yoga as you would by running or doing some other high-intensity activities, yoga can still raise your heart rate and help build muscle.
● Reduce stress and reduce pounds. Yoga helps deal with stress.

Yoga is a very reasonable form of exercise, but you have to choose the right type. A 2021 study found no difference in weight loss totals for participants practicing a gentle, restorative yoga versus a more vigorous type of yoga.

5 . You’ve probably tried easy center-city Beijing rides if you enjoy riding. Now it’s time to level up your rides so they will take you out into the countryside and attractive mountains.
Death Valley
Approximate distance: 100 km loop (环线)
It may sound terrifying, but Beijing’s cyclists named this northern route “Death Valley” on account of the huge tomb it passes, not the number of on-road accidents it has seen. In reality, it’s the closest, mostly car-free loop to the city center and great for really stretching your legs.
Tuesdays/Thursday TTT
Approximate distance: 54 km loop
While it’s not particularly scenic, there are few traffic lights, and the roads are not too busy and have adequate bike lanes on each side, making it a relatively trouble-free ride. If you’d like to ride with a group, seek out early morning Beijing rider groups and join them on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 5 a. m. or 6 a. m. depending on the season.
The Verse
Approximate distance: 120 km loop
It passes a cafe with good (although expensive) food, and even high-end accommodation, but the best part is their super welcoming attitude towards cyclists. It’s a hike that is well worth the effort, as you are rewarded with amazing views of the Great Wall upon arrival, and a ride back that is mostly downhill.
Tongzhou Grand Canal Forest Park
Approximate distance: 700 km loop
This park is the closest place for riders to enjoy the Grand Canal from Beijing. The Grand Canal is a true wonder in China, and one of the greatest civil engineering projects in history. The oldest parts of it date back to the 5th century BC. It will be a fun ride here.

Botball Educational Robotics Program
Level: Regional and national competitions available
Grades: 9th, 10th. 11th, 12th
Over a period of about seven weeks, students learn to code(编程) and develop complex strategies to use artificial intelligence. This allows them to create an autonomous robot together that competes in an annual game challenging against other teams in competitions at various levels across the country.
FIRST: Robotics Competition
Level: Local, regional and national competitions available
Grades: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th
Teams work together with professional teachers to design, assemble(装配), and test an industrial-sized robot .The robot then competes in a head-to-head field game against other teams.

8 . As a high school coach, I did all I could to help my boys win their games. One thing, however, changed my view on victories. I was refereeing (担任裁判) a championship basketball game between New Rochelle and Yonkers High.
New Rochelle, the home team, was coached by Dan O’Brien, Yonkers by Les Beck. The gym was too crowded to hear the buzzer (终场哨). The game was well played. Yonkers was leading by one point as there were but 30 seconds left to play.
New Rochelle got the ball and tapped it in (投进篮筐) for what looked like victory. I took a look at the clock and saw that the game was over. I hadn’t heard the final buzzer because of the noise. I checked with the other official, but he could not help me.
So I approached the timekeeper, a young man of 17 or so. He said, “Mr. Covino, the buzzer went off as the ball rolled off the rim (篮筐) before the final tap-in was made.”
I was in a dilemma about whether to tell Coach O’Brien the sad news. “Dan,” I said, “time ran out before the final basket was tapped in. Yonkers won the game.”
His face clouded over. The young timekeeper came up. He said, “I’m sorry, Dad. The time ran out before the final basket.”
Suddenly, like the sun coming out from behind a cloud, Coach O’Brien’s face lit up. He said, “That’s okay, Joe. You did what you had to do. I’m proud of you.” Turning to me, he said, “Al, I want you to meet my son, Joe.”
The two of them then walked off the court together, the coach’s arm around his son’s shoulder.
